On the weekend, I invited Du Mei to go shopping.
At noon, we sat in a café in the city center, sipping coffee and chatting. Du Mei's eyes were red, as if she had just been crying. I looked at her with concern and asked, "What happened?"
Du Mei sniffled and said, "Yao Yao, I saw Zhang Qiang having dinner with that girl."
I was slightly taken aback. "Which girl?"
Du Mei wiped her nose and replied, "The one I told you about before, the new intern at their company."
I frowned. "Did they really go out to eat together?"
Du Mei nodded. "Yeah, my colleague happened to pass by their company and saw them walking out together, laughing and chatting as they went into a restaurant."
I was speechless. "Zhang Qiang is really too much!"
Du Mei cried, "Yao Yao, what should I do?"
I sighed helplessly. " Du Mei, stop crying; if you keep it up, your makeup will be ruined."
Hearing this, Du Mei quickly took out a tissue from her bag and wiped her tears. I gently patted her shoulder and said, " Du Mei, don't be too upset; maybe things aren't as bad as you think."
Du Mei sobbed, "Yao Yao, I really love him; I can't live without him."
I sighed again. " Du Mei, don't say that; if you keep this up, I'm going to cry too."
Before I could finish my sentence, tears started to fall from my eyes uncontrollably.
I'm a woman too; how could I not feel sad seeing the man I love with another woman? But I had been trying to control my emotions all along so that Du Mei wouldn't worry. However, now I really couldn't hold it back anymore.
Seeing me cry, Du Mei widened her eyes in shock. "Yao Yao, what's wrong?"
I shook my head and said, "I'm fine, just feeling a bit down."
Du Mei, with red eyes, replied, "Yao Yao, it's all my fault for making you sad."
I sighed and said, " Du Mei, don't say that. It's not your fault."
Du Mei sniffled and said, "Yao Yao, I really don't know what to do."
I took a deep breath, about to speak, when a familiar voice suddenly came from behind me.
"Yao Yao, what's wrong?"
I jumped in surprise and turned around to see Qin Jin standing behind me, looking at me with confusion.
I awkwardly greeted him, "Manager Qin, what a coincidence."
Qin Jin frowned and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
I quickly wiped my tears and said, "I'm fine; I just got some sand in my eyes."
Qin Jin clearly didn't believe me and turned to look at Du Mei.
Du Mei hurriedly explained, "Yao Yao is fine; she just cried while watching a movie."
Qin Jin paused for a moment and asked, "Watching a movie?"
I nodded quickly and said, "Yeah, we just came out of the cinema."
Qin Jin looked puzzled. "But weren't you drinking coffee?"
I explained, "We watched a movie first and then came over for coffee."
Qin Jin nodded. "I see."
I smiled and asked, "Manager Qin, what are you doing here?"
Qin Jin replied casually, "I came to check things out."
I chuckled and said, "You're really responsible."
Qin Jin let out a light laugh. "Take your time drinking; just put it on my tab as if I'm treating you."
I quickly responded, "No need for that, Manager Qin; we've already paid the bill."
Qin Jin smiled. "Then consider it my apology for what happened last time."
I was taken aback. "The last time?"
Qin Jin nodded, "Last time I didn't understand the situation and criticized you. I hope you won't take it to heart."
I smiled awkwardly, "Of course not, you're just doing your job."
Qin Jin smiled, "Then take your time drinking. I'll be leaving now."
I nodded, "Goodbye, Manager Qin."
Qin Jin looked at me deeply for a moment before turning to leave.
