"Waiter, your inn is so shabby, do you have any rooms available?" A crisp voice came from behind, laced with a hint of imperceptible arrogance. Liu Zhou was behind the counter, calculating on an abacus, and without raising his head, he lazily replied, "Unfortunately, esteemed guest, the last room was just booked by a strong man half an hour ago." As soon as he finished speaking, a cold laugh echoed, "Oh? I want to see who is so blind as to dare compete with me for a room!"
A burly man swaggered into the inn, one hand on his hip and the other holding an exaggeratedly large knife. "Hahaha! Waiter, quickly bring me the best food and wine; I'm in a good mood today and want to treat myself!" His loud voice seemed to shake the entire inn.
"Sir, you have finally returned! Your food and drink have been prepared long ago; I'll bring them right out!" Liu Zhou continued to fiddle with the abacus while a subtle smile crept onto his lips.
The man clearly enjoyed being the center of attention. He proudly looked around and immediately spotted Fairy Yunmeng sitting by the window. Today, she wore a light blue dress, her long black hair pinned up with a white jade hairpin, looking ethereal like a fairy from a painting. The man was instantly captivated; his knife fell to the ground with a loud clatter, but he remained oblivious.
"Oh my, this young lady is truly stunning! I wonder which hero is fortunate enough to have such a beauty by his side?" The man rubbed his hands together with a lewd grin as he approached Fairy Yunmeng.
Fairy Yunmeng calmly picked up her teacup and took a gentle sip, but a glint of cunning flashed in her eyes. "This gentleman is joking; I am here all alone and not yet married," she said, deliberately emphasizing the words "all alone."
Upon hearing this, the man’s heart soared with excitement; thinking he had a chance, he eagerly showcased his "heroic deeds." "What you don't know is that I just eliminated a band of mountain thieves outside the city and saved several citizens! They all praised me as a great hero who stands up against injustice!" He gestured animatedly as if truly fighting off enemies.
"Oh? Is that so?" Fairy Yunmeng feigned surprise and covered her mouth. "Then this gentleman is indeed remarkable! I admire heroes like you the most!" As she spoke, her gaze intentionally drifted toward the room Liu Zhou mentioned.
The man felt an irresistible urge at her glance and couldn't help but thump his chest in assurance. "Of course! If you need any help, just ask; I would go through fire and water for you!"
"In that case," Fairy Yunmeng said with sparkling eyes and a voice as soft as flowing water, "I dare to ask for a favor. I am quite exhausted from my travels; would this gentleman be willing to let me rest in that room for one night?"
The man paused for a moment, clearly taken aback by her request. He initially wanted to refuse but hesitated at the thought of her admiring gaze. "Well..." he stammered, unsure of how to respond.
At that moment, Liu Zhou suddenly lifted his head and casually remarked, "Esteemed guest, didn't you say you were going to deliver an important letter for your master outside of town today? If you delay..."
The man turned pale upon hearing the words "master" and "letter," his previously straight posture slumping as any trace of his earlier arrogance vanished.
"Waiter, please don't say that... I..." The man hurriedly tried to explain, but his voice grew fainter until he could only retreat to a corner in embarrassment.
Fairy Yunmeng observed all of this, her opinion of Liu Zhou rising even higher. She elegantly stood up and walked over to Liu Zhou, a meaningful smile playing on her lips. "Brother waiter, it seems you know the guests in the inn quite well."
Liu Zhou smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying. "You flatter me, esteemed guest. I'm just doing my job," he said, handing a key to Fairy Yunmeng. "Your room has been prepared. Please follow me."
Fairy Yunmeng took the key, gave Liu Zhou a deep look, and then turned to follow him upstairs.
