"Ah!"
A nurse's startled cry echoed from the operating room.
Shen Xingyu rushed to the door of the operating room and shouted inside, "What happened?"
"Miss Du, Miss Du, she..." The nurse ran out in a panic, breathless as she said, "Miss Du's blood pressure suddenly dropped during the operation; it could be life-threatening!"
"What!" Shen Xingyu's eyes widened. He grabbed the nurse's shirt and demanded loudly, "Why did this happen?"
"Because Miss Ye was resisting earlier, there wasn't enough plasma," the nurse explained. "But there’s no plasma of that blood type in the blood bank..."
"Then what are you waiting for!" Shen Xingyu roared. "Hurry up and get blood from the blood bank!"
"But time is tight; I'm afraid..." The nurse looked at Shen Xingyu timidly.
"Afraid of what!" Shen Xingyu shouted angrily.
"Afraid it might be too late..." The nurse's voice grew softer.
"Get out, get out of my way!" Shen Xingyu yelled. "If anything happens to Qiao Yun, I will make you all pay!"
"Mr. Shen..." The nurse looked at Shen Xingyu in fear and cautiously said, "Actually, there is another way."
"What way?" Shen Xingyu immediately asked.
"It's to transfuse blood from Miss Ye," the nurse said.
"Why transfuse blood to her?" Shen Xingyu asked in confusion.
"Miss Ye and Miss Du have the same blood type," the nurse explained. "As long as we transfuse blood to Miss Ye, we can then draw her blood to transfuse to Miss Du."
"What did you say?" Shen Xingyu's eyes widened. "Ye Jingzhu and Qiao Yun have the same blood type?"
"Yes... yes," the nurse nodded.
Shen Xingyu paused slightly, his gaze becoming deep. After a long moment, he asked, "How is Ye Jingzhu doing now?"
"Miss Ye has already been anesthetized," the nurse replied. "But because she resisted too much, the kidney hasn't been removed yet."
Shen Xingyu fell silent, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
"Mr. Shen...?" The nurse urged cautiously.
Shen Xingyu closed his eyes, feeling his heart racing. He took a deep breath and slowly opened his eyes, saying in a deep voice, "Let's do as you said."
"Understood." The nurse received the instruction and immediately turned back to the operating room.
Sitting in the chair, Shen Xingyu felt his heart beating rapidly, never before so urgently.
The door to the operating room opened, and the nurse walked up to Shen Xingyu with the consent form in hand.
"Mr. Shen, have you made your decision?" the nurse asked.
Shen Xingyu looked up at her, hesitating.
Seeing that he remained silent, the nurse continued, "Mr. Shen, Miss Du doesn't have much time left. Please make your decision quickly."
Shen Xingyu clenched his fists tightly; he wished he could kill Ye Jingzhu, but why couldn't he bring himself to do it? He didn't understand what was happening to him; all he knew was that he had to save Du Qiaoyun!
He took the consent form from the nurse's hand, glanced at it hurriedly, and then signed his name.
The nurse took the consent form back into the operating room, while Shen Xingyu sat in the chair, feeling his breathing become more rapid.
He irritably unbuttoned his collar, unsure of why he felt so anxious.
The nurse walked out of the operating room holding an IV bag. She glanced at Shen Xingyu but said nothing.
Shen Xingyu knew what that IV bag was for; it was meant for Ye Jingzhu's blood transfusion.
He closed his eyes and tried not to look at it, fearing that he might change his mind at any moment.
Time passed slowly for Shen Xingyu, each second feeling like torture.
"Hey, did you see that? The person who was just wheeled away looked so pitiful," two nurses said as they walked past him.
"Yeah, so pitiful. She looks like she's only in her twenties. It's really sad," another nurse replied.
"Right? Dying so young."
"Sigh, her family must be heartbroken."
Shen Xingyu's heart twisted painfully. He rushed in front of the two nurses, grabbing one of their arms and shouted, "Who are you saying died? Who died?"
"I... We don't know her name," the nurse said fearfully, looking at Shen Xingyu. "She... she had her kidney removed and is bleeding heavily..."
"No!" Shen Xingyu shouted angrily, "It's impossible!"
"Mr. Shen..." the nurse looked at Shen Xingyu, "Please calm down."
"Calm down?" Shen Xingyu sneered, "How do you expect me to calm down?"
The nurse did not anticipate such a strong reaction from Shen Xingyu, and for a moment, they were at a loss for words.
Shen Xingyu released the nurse's hand and walked step by step to the door of the operating room. He wanted to open the door but found it tightly locked.
He closed his eyes in pain; his heart hurt so much, truly so much.
Three days later.
Ye Jingzhu opened her heavy eyelids, looking at the pale ceiling and the white walls.
"You’re awake?"
Ye Jingzhu slowly turned her head and saw Du Qiaoyun standing before her with a victorious posture.
"You..." Ye Jingzhu struggled to sit up, but she had no strength at all.
Du Qiaoyun chuckled lightly as she walked to Ye Jingzhu's side, sneering, "What’s wrong? Unwilling to accept it? Still want to kill me?"
"You..." Ye Jingzhu glared at Du Qiaoyun in anger, knowing that if it weren't for Du Qiaoyun, she wouldn't be in this state.
"I'll tell you, I won't let you go," Du Qiaoyun said with a sinister smile. "I will make your life worse than death."
"You..." Ye Jingzhu did not expect Du Qiaoyun to be so vicious. She glared fiercely at Du Qiaoyun. "You will get your comeuppance."
"Comeuppance?" Du Qiaoyun laughed heartily. She took out a small bottle from her bag and approached Ye Jingzhu with a wicked grin. "Do you know what’s inside?"
Ye Jingzhu's eyes were fixed on the bottle; her lips turned purple as she coldly asked, "What is it?"
"It’s your kidney," Du Qiaoyun laughed maniacally.
