Lin Yaru looked at his serious attire and then glanced at the half-eaten hamburger in his hand, unable to suppress a light laugh.
She found it hard to imagine that a respectable company boss would come to a place like KFC for a meal. Her own brother would never eat here. Lin Yaru felt a sense of admiration and fondness for his unpretentious demeanor and hidden depth.
"Then, may I have the honor of sharing a meal with you, Mr. Yan?" Lin Yaru smiled as she extended the invitation.
"Having lunch with a beautiful woman is an honor I could only wish for," Yan Chengjie replied with an attractive smile.
Thus, they found a seat near the window and began their casual conversation.
"Why are you eating so little? Don't you feel hungry?"
Lin Yaru looked at his tray, which only had a Cod Burger and a cup of orange juice. She then glanced at her own tray: a Big Mac, a serving of Cod Fish Sticks, a pair of Argentinian Spicy Chicken Wings, two Purple Custard Tarts, a Medium Fries, along with salad and coffee. His simple meal made Lin Yaru feel as if she were not even a woman but rather a starving ghost reincarnated!
"I have an important meeting this afternoon. Eating too much at lunch can muddle my agile thoughts and clear mind, which could affect my decision-making," Yan Chengjie explained with a smile, using straightforward language.
"I imagine you must be very serious when you're working," Lin Yaru thought he gave off the impression of being a boss who clearly separates work from personal matters.
"Oh, tell me, what kind of boss do you think I am in your eyes?"
"Definitely! Aren't company bosses always wearing grumpy faces and arrogantly pointing fingers at their employees?" Just like her own brother, who always acted domineering in the office.
"I appreciate a different approach to managing employees. I believe that a combination of firmness and gentleness can be just as effective as relying solely on authority and threats," Yan Chengjie said succinctly, his tone calm and casual.
"Oh, I'm not very familiar with business philosophies or methods," Lin Yaru replied with a light smile and a shrug, focusing intently on her Big Mac.
"Then you must be working, right?"
Yan Chengjie probed thoughtfully, recalling the luxurious villa he saw when he took her home that day. Her demeanor, her attire—he was certain she must be the daughter of some entrepreneur. He also vaguely remembered their conversation on the lawn at Xie Dongshi's House, where she mentioned being pressured by her family's 'marriage squad' to find a partner in life. So she should be working, right?
