"No, cough, my father won't let me work." Lin Yaru swallowed the giant burger lying in front of her, her small face scrunching up in frustration as she shook her head.
In her parents' eyes, she had always been that child who never grew up. They were either worried about her suffering or afraid she would be deceived, never allowing her to work. And now, she was the special assistant to the chairman of her father's company, albeit in name only! It hardly counted as a job; she felt like a vase sitting there. Even if someone needed to deliver a document, they wouldn't require her help. She hadn't been there for quite some time.
Lin Yaru recounted her only work experience since entering society. As she spoke animatedly, she kept shoveling salad into her mouth, occasionally reaching for fries and purple sweet potato tarts. Before long, she had polished off everything on her plate without noticing Yan Chengjie's unwavering gaze fixed on her.
Once Lin Yaru finally cleared the food in front of her and vented all the frustrations bottled up inside, she suddenly felt an unsettling silence. Yan Chengjie was so quiet it was almost frightening.
"What... are you looking at?" Lin Yaru asked anxiously, glancing at the mountain of trash piled up in front of her before looking back at him. Could it be that he was shocked by her astonishing appetite?
Although he wasn't someone she was dating, he was still a young man and she was an unmarried woman; she needed to maintain her image.
"You..." Yan Chengjie reached out with his long fingers and pointed at her lower lip.
"Ah!"
Lin Yaru stared at him in confusion, instinctively extending her finger to touch her lower lip where he had pointed. She realized there was salad dressing on her lips.
The tension within Lin Yaru eased significantly; it was good that he wasn't scared off by her. After all, it had been difficult for her to find someone who was somewhat pleasing to the eye and could listen to her without being distracted by her looks. Feeling relieved, Lin Yaru licked the salad dressing off her lower lip.
Yan Chengjie inadvertently looked up just in time to catch a glimpse of her delicate pink tongue gliding over her full, vibrant lips. This innocent and simple action from Lin Yaru appeared incredibly enticing in Yan Chengjie's eyes, seemingly carrying an alluring aura. A sudden wave of inexplicable excitement surged through his abdomen; his male desire reacted strongly to her unintentional provocation!
He suddenly grabbed the half cup of cold coffee in front of him and gulped it down vigorously.
"Hey! You're drinking my coffee! Yours is orange juice." Lin Yaru looked at him in disbelief, unable to hold back her astonishment. Why did he have to take her coffee?
Her coffee? Orange juice? Yan Chengjie was startled by her words and realized that the liquid he had just tasted had a hint of bitterness, and the cup in front of him was still filled with orange juice.
He caught sight of the faint lipstick mark on the rim of the cup, as well as her full, sensual, vibrant red lips, which seemed to have just left an impression on his own lips…
