Today, after a whole day of fatigue compounded by the fact that she barely slept last night due to worry, she was on the verge of exhaustion.
Lin Yaru forced a faint smile as she stood by the entrance of the hall, bidding farewell to her group of close friends, who were the last wave of guests.
"Ruru, you must be happy! We are really looking forward to this century-spanning wedding."
Her college friends, except for Yu Yaping, who had already become her sister-in-law, were all still single. Thus, a group of lonely hearts was clearly still immersed in fantasies of perfect endings like those of Prince Charming and Snow White.
"I definitely will. I'll let you know when it happens, and you must remember to come!"
Lin Yaru knew that this date would likely be far off and that the groom would change, but for now, the most important thing was to safely get through tonight; everything else could wait. She thought to herself like an ostrich.
"Also, we thought you might be missing something, so we only brought you your favorite chocolate as a small token. Please accept it." The American friend handed her a beautifully packaged box of Ferrero Chocolate.
"Th-thank you."
Lin Yaru anxiously looked at the chocolate in her friend's hands, wondering if her college friends would throw the chocolate in her face if they ever discovered the truth. With some trepidation, she reached out and accepted the box of Ferrero Chocolate from the American friend.
"Well then, we won't disturb your romantic time anymore. Bye!" The group waved goodbye and gracefully walked out of Lin Family Villa's main door.
Lin Yaru watched as her friends gradually disappeared into the night, feeling a pang of envy for their freedom.
Lin Yaru let out a soft sigh, feeling an overwhelming heaviness in her heart. As she turned her head, she unexpectedly bumped into a solid, warm chest.
"Hey! What are you doing standing here? Are you trying to scare me to death?!"
Lin Yaru shot an annoyed glare at Yan Chengjie and turned to walk past him towards the living room. She was furious, still remembering how Yan Chengjie had forcefully kissed her outside the restroom earlier that day. Her anger had yet to subside!
Suddenly, a pair of iron-like arms wrapped tightly around her slender waist from behind, like a water snake.
"Xiaoru, you look really beautiful today!" His breath lingered near her ear.
Oh no! The situation was clearly taking a turn for the worse; the big bad wolf was trying to have his free lunch again! This poor little rabbit needed to escape quickly.
