"I won't believe she is dead." Shen Xingyu's eyes were bloodshot. "She loves me so much; she definitely won't die."
"Mr. Shen," Little Ma said, looking at Shen Xingyu, "I've already sent someone to investigate. I'll inform you as soon as I have news."
"I need to investigate myself." Shen Xingyu couldn't accept that Ye Jingzhu was dead. "I don't believe she is dead."
"Mr. Shen, you should rest well," Little Ma advised.
"I don't need to rest." Shen Xingyu felt as if he had aged significantly in an instant; his originally dark hair had become streaked with gray. "I need to investigate right now."
"Mr. Shen," Little Ma knew Shen Xingyu's temperament; once he made up his mind, it wouldn't change.
"I'm fine." Shen Xingyu waved his hand. "You can go back to the company. I want to be alone for a while."
"Alright." Little Ma understood that Shen Xingyu needed to calm down. "Then I'll head back first."
"Mm." Shen Xingyu nodded.
After Little Ma left, Shen Xingyu didn't linger either. He walked out of the hospital and hailed a taxi at the entrance, getting in.
"Sir, where to?" the driver asked.
"Anywhere," Shen Xingyu replied, feeling very unsettled; he just wanted to find a quiet place.
"Anywhere?" The driver paused for a moment. He glanced at Shen Xingyu in the rearview mirror and noticed his serious expression, thinking he must have been through something distressing. "Sir, are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Shen Xingyu said lightly. "Just take me to the nearest bar!"
"Okay." The driver nodded and started the car.
The driver dropped Shen Xingyu off at the bar entrance and drove away. Standing at the bar's entrance, Shen Xingyu looked at the sign with a bitter smile before stepping inside.
When he came out of the bar, it was already midnight. He stumbled along the road, looking up at the sky. "Ye Jingzhu, how could you leave me? How could you just disappear without a word?"
Shen Xingyu didn't know how long he had walked before finally returning home. He opened the door to find the house completely dark. Usually, at this time, Ye Jingzhu would leave a light on for him, but from now on, that would never happen again.
Shen Xingyu closed the door and collapsed onto the sofa. He shut his eyes, his mind filled with thoughts of Ye Jingzhu, and his heart was filled with regret.
If only he had chased after her at the wedding venue, perhaps Ye Jingzhu wouldn't have died.
Thinking of this, tears welled up in the corners of Shen Xingyu's eyes. He sat up and looked around; there was no trace of Ye Jingzhu in the house, making it feel so empty.
Shen Xingyu walked into the bedroom and turned on the light. The room was clean, and on the bed lay a light blue nightgown. He remembered that this was Ye Jingzhu's favorite outfit to wear when she was alive.
Shen Xingyu picked up the nightgown and brought it to his nose, inhaling the lingering scent of Ye Jingzhu. He held the nightgown close to his chest and turned to see a diary resting on the bedside table.
Shen Xingyu picked up the diary and opened the first page, which read: "If one day I leave you, please do not be sad, for I will always be by your side watching over you."
Upon reading this, Shen Xingyu felt as if something had gripped his heart. He flipped to the second page, where it was written:
"February 14, 2010: Today is Valentine's Day. I knitted him a sweater by hand; I wonder if he will like it?
May 12, 2010: There was an earthquake today. The school was chaotic, and everyone was running outside, but I was worried about him. I ran upstairs without hesitation because I wanted to tell him to hurry and escape.
July 10, 2011: It’s his birthday. I gave him too much blood during a transfusion and ended up fainting, but he didn’t know."
"2012…"
Shen Xingyu continued to flip through the pages, reading about Ye Jingzhu's love for him. He had no idea that Ye Jingzhu had fainted from giving blood for him.
Closing the diary, Shen Xingyu pressed it against his chest and silently vowed, "Ye Jingzhu, listen to me—without my permission, you are not allowed to die."
