"Change of fate?"
I frowned and looked at Xu Ziheng. "What does that mean?"
"Well, after I finish speaking, don't be scared."
Under the streetlight, his expression was particularly serious.
But before he could say the next sentence, a sudden scream interrupted him.
"Ah! Help, help! Is there anyone who can save me? Let go of me, you beast!"
The sharp female voice, mixed with the dark night, sounded even more chilling.
I shuddered in fear and then turned to Xu Ziheng as we both looked in the direction of the commotion.
It was a public restroom.
The motion-sensor light was on, and through the hollow wall, shadows could be faintly seen moving.
Late at night, a public restroom, and a woman's cry for help.
It was easy to guess what was happening.
Xu Ziheng hesitated before speaking. "That is..."
"Rape," I said in a low voice.
After that, I quickened my pace and ran over.
Xu Ziheng also came to his senses and followed me.
The closer we got, the louder the sound became. By the time we reached the entrance, I could already confirm that someone was inside the women's restroom.
I didn't care about the gender barrier and was about to rush in.
But Xu Ziheng suddenly exerted force and pulled me back, causing me to stumble.
"Don't go in."
I didn't expect him to stop me, and I got angry, lowering my voice to shout, "We can't ignore this!"
However, he didn't let go; instead, he stared at me and spoke very seriously:
"Something's off in there. There's no human presence, and the negative energy is particularly strong!"
No human presence?
I froze in place.
If there was no human presence, then who was calling for help?
Could it be...
"That's right."
Seemingly guessing my thoughts, Xu Ziheng's expression turned serious as he nodded heavily. "It's a trap. Someone has deliberately cast an illusion to cover up the leaking negative energy. They probably did it to lure us here."
A heaviness settled in my heart.
I quickly realized that I shouldn't have been so impulsive, dragging both of us into trouble.
"What do we do now?"
"Run!"
Xu Ziheng grabbed my arm and pulled me forcefully toward the streetlight.
As soon as he finished speaking, the motion-sensor light in the restroom began to flicker, and a chilling wind accompanied by a howling sound rushed toward us.
Xu Ziheng pushed me forward while throwing talismans behind us.
However, the talismans that had worked to subdue Xiao Hu in the hospital were now useless when thrown away.
It was clear how powerful the thing chasing us was.
The streetlight was dim, making it difficult to discern the direction, but I dared not slow my pace, gritting my teeth and pushing forward.
Just then, a crossroads appeared ahead.
Caught in indecision, I instinctively slowed down.
In that moment of hesitation, the chilling wind closed in even more, making me feel as if I had been thrown into an ice cellar, the cold penetrating deep into my bones.
I shivered uncontrollably; even lifting my legs felt like a luxury.
No, I couldn't run anymore.
My eyelids felt like they were fighting each other, crazily sticking together.
My vision gradually blurred... A vague figure flashed before my eyes.
Just as my consciousness was about to fade away, a sudden force from behind pushed me forward several steps.
The bone-chilling cold finally dissipated, and my legs, which I could not lift before, returned to normal.
The sound of the wind carried Xu Ziheng's voice, clearly piercing through my ears.
He shouted, "To the left! Head to the nearest police station!"
I perked up, almost instantly understanding his intention—police stations are fair and just, they discern right from wrong, and ordinary monsters dare not approach them.
Going there was indeed the best choice.
I quickly adjusted my escape route.
But what about Xu Ziheng?
Thinking this, I glanced back as I turned.
I noticed he was struggling to hold up a wooden sword against a mass of black mist.
Even more bizarrely, although the black mist appeared intangible, the resistance was astonishing; I could even see the veins bulging on his arm.
Noticing me looking back, he gritted his teeth and shouted, "Run! Don't worry about me; their target is you, they won't do anything to me!"
The mass of black mist closed in again, seemingly trying to bypass Xu Ziheng to chase after me.
I quickly gritted my teeth and sped up, desperately trying to put some distance between myself and the pursuer.
My legs were sore and painful, almost numb.
Fortunately, the police station was not far away.
Just before I completely exhausted myself and could no longer run, I finally reached the place.
Seeing the illuminated police badge felt like spotting a lifesaver; I stumbled and crawled towards the door.
The door swung open, and I fell right inside.
I rolled around on the ground for a moment.
Only after seeing that the cloud of black smoke had indeed stopped outside the police station and hadn’t followed me in did I finally feel relieved.
I didn’t even bother to get up.
I just lay there, gasping for breath.
Then, my gaze shifted, and I saw someone behind the desk.
A police officer was holding a bowl of instant noodles, staring at me in shock.
"Reporting an incident?" he asked as he set down his utensils.
My mind went blank; I truly didn’t know how to respond.
After all, saying that I had come to the police station for refuge because I was being chased by a ghost would surely make me sound insane if I dared to say it.
I was stunned for a while, and finally could only nod in agreement, saying, "Yes, I want to report a case."
After that, I pushed myself off the ground and stood up.
"What kind of case? Please sit down and explain it clearly."
Upon hearing this, the police officer immediately pushed aside the instant noodle bowl in front of him, and his expression turned serious.
He even took out a notebook, showing his dedication to the task.
At this point, I could only brace myself and speak up.
"Well, my brother is missing. I've been looking for him for a long time but haven't found him."
"Is it a case of a missing person? Could you please tell me approximately when he went missing, his age, gender, characteristics, and what he was wearing before he disappeared? Do you remember any of that?"
"Um..."
I was caught off guard by the questions, and my palms began to sweat.
