Various smells mixed together, creating a pungent sour odor that made it impossible to open my eyes.
A few days later, I stood in front of Chen Li. She was barely alive, covered in blood. Her clothes were tattered and stained with an unknown liquid. She looked up at me, her eyes filled with fear.
"Ranran, please, let me go."
She crawled to my feet, reaching out with her bony hand to tug at my pant leg. I looked at this pitiful woman before me, and a sense of vengeful pleasure ignited within me. That night, Lao Yu came with a bottle of wine to discuss matters with Zhang Huai. I had just prepared a table full of food and was about to go in when I heard the commotion inside.
"Zhang Huai, you took my money; why won't you give me my woman?"
"What do you mean? Are you trying to renege on the deal?"
Lao Yu was angry, his voice loud.
Zhang Huai casually replied, "It's just a woman, right? I'll get you a pretty one tomorrow."
"A pretty one? Hmph, you said you'd get me a beautiful one before, and what happened? That woman looked like a sow."
Lao Yu's tone was quite displeased.
"Lao Yu, don't be anxious. I will definitely get you something good."
As the two continued to argue, I felt it was the right moment and pushed the door open.
"Brothers, don't be angry. Here, have a drink."
I poured a glass of liquor for Lao Yu and handed it to him with a smile.
"Lao Yu, my brother, Zhang Huai isn't intentionally avoiding his debts. He's been dealing with some issues lately. Once he sorts everything out, he'll definitely find you a beautiful woman."
"Come on, let me apologize on his behalf."
I raised my glass and downed the drink in one go.
Perhaps I drank too quickly; I started coughing violently.
"Cough cough cough."
I covered my mouth, my cheeks flushed, and my eyes sparkled.
Lao Yu stared at me, his Adam's apple moving slightly.
I smiled faintly and took a few bites of food, chewing slowly.
"Lao Yu, I toast to you."
I held up my glass and leaned it towards Lao Yu, looking up at him.
Lao Yu fixed his gaze on my eyes and after a while raised his glass and drank it all in one go.
When I left, my fingertips lightly brushed against his back. Lao Yu shuddered all over and turned to look at me. I gave him a slight smile and swayed my hips as I walked away. Lao Yu is a man driven by desire; my earlier actions must have planted a seed in his mind. He watched my retreating figure, his eyes narrowing slightly.
That night, I lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. During the day, I had deliberately flirted with Lao Yu, hoping to provoke him into making a move on me. I knew that only if he touched me would Zhang Huai completely give up. However, Lao Yu did not show up. My plan had fallen through.
I sighed and closed my eyes, preparing to sleep. Just then, the door creaked open. A shadow rushed in, bringing with it a strong smell of sourness and alcohol.
