This sentence exploded like a bomb in the hospital room. Fu Xieli suddenly looked up, a flash of astonishment crossing his eyes, but it was quickly masked by his usual cold demeanor: "Do you know what you're saying? Divorce, have you thought this through?"
Shen Qingyan took a deep breath, her gaze steady as she met his eyes, her tone calm and resolute: "Yes, I've thought it through. This marriage has long been a mere formality for me. Rather than tormenting each other, it's better to let each other go."
Her heart ached faintly; once, she believed marrying him was the beginning of happiness, but reality had dealt her a harsh blow. Three years of marriage, over a thousand days and nights, she had tried hard to play the role of a good wife and daughter-in-law, only to end up with his indifference and neglect.
At that moment, the hospital door was pushed open, and Lu Wanting walked in gracefully. She wore a red dress today, which made her skin appear even fairer. Her exquisite makeup and triumphant smile stung Shen Qingyan's eyes.
"Xieli, I brought you your favorite drink..." Lu Wanting's voice abruptly stopped as her gaze fell on Shen Qingyan, followed by a meaningful smile. "Oh, isn't this my sister? What brings you to the hospital? You look so unwell; it can't be that..."
She deliberately paused, walking over to Fu Xieli and affectionately linking her arm with his, her tone full of provocation: "So, are you finally getting divorced? I've been waiting for the position of Mrs. Fu for quite some time."
Lu Wanting's words pierced Shen Qingyan's heart like a sharp thorn. She closed her eyes briefly, took a deep breath, and struggled to suppress the surging emotions within her, telling herself not to stoop to her level.
Shen Qingyan propped herself up on the edge of the bed but was hit by a wave of dizziness. Seeing this, Fu Xieli instinctively reached out to support her, his brow slightly furrowed: "Are you okay?"
She shook her head, subtly avoiding his touch and replied lightly: "I'm fine, thank you."
Seeing this, Lu Wanting's smile deepened as she deliberately leaned closer to Fu Xieli with a sweet tone: "Xieli, look how pitiful my sister is—lying alone in the hospital without anyone to take care of her."
Shen Qingyan scoffed softly and ignored her provocation. She turned to Fu Xieli and said word by word: "Fu Xieli, I hope you can give me an answer regarding our situation soon."
After saying that, she no longer paid attention to them and turned to look out the window. The night view of City A remained bustling with activity—cars flowing like water and neon lights flashing—but she felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness and desolation.
When Yanyan arrived at the hospital room, she happened to see Lu Wanting affectionately linking her arm with Fu Xieli, while Shen Qingyan sat alone on the hospital bed, pale-faced and silent.
"Qingyan!" Yanyan rushed to her side in a few quick steps, grabbing her hand with eyes full of concern and worry. "What happened? How did you end up in the hospital?"
Shen Qingyan forced out a faint smile. "I'm fine, just an old issue."
Yanyan clearly didn't believe her. She turned to Fu Xieli with a harsh tone, "Fu Xieli, is this how you take care of Qingyan? Leaving her to suffer alone in the hospital?"
Fu Xieli furrowed his brows slightly but said nothing, instinctively loosening the arm that Lu Wanting had linked with his.
Seeing this, Lu Wanting's smugness increased. She gently brushed her curled hair by her ear and spoke with a hint of sarcasm, "Yanyan, that's not fair. Xieli is so busy with work; how could he have time to be around Qingyan all day?"
"No matter how busy he is, it’s still better than you, a lady of leisure!" Yanyan shot back without hesitation, her gaze sharp as a knife. "Lu Wanting, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. Let me tell you, Qingyan is my bottom line. If you dare to bully her again, I will not let you off the hook!"
