The police officer asked, "Haven't you thought about calling the police?" 0
I forced a smile and replied, "I have." 0
"But it didn't help." 0
The officer frowned, "Why not?" 0
I sighed, "After my dad found out I called the police, he beat my mom even harder." 0
"There was one time I secretly called the police." 0
"When they arrived, my mom didn't dare to tell the truth." 0
"My dad beat my mom right in front of the officers." 0
"When the police asked him why he was hitting her, my dad said, 'I'm beating my wife; what business is it of yours?'" 0
"'This is my family matter; it's none of your concern.'" 0
"The police couldn't find any evidence and had no way to take my dad away." 0
"Later, they told me that as long as my mom was willing to get her injuries checked, they could escalate my dad's violence to a legal level." 0
"I asked my mom why she didn't get checked, and she said if my dad went to jail, no one would take care of her." 0
"It was hard for her to raise me alone; if she lost her income, we would both starve." 0
The officer frowned and said, "What about your grandmother?" 0
"Hasn't she thought about helping your mom?" 0
I forced a laugh and said, "Her?" 0
"She wishes my mom would die sooner." 0
"After the police came, she scolded my mom harshly, saying that my mom incited me to call the police and wanted to harm my dad." 0
"She claimed that it was only natural for my dad to hit my mom." 0
"What man doesn't hit women?" 0
"My dad hitting my mom was because she made a mistake." 0
"My mom deserved to be beaten." 0
"The police listened but could do nothing and left." 0
"Since then, my dad became even more arrogant." 0
"He intensified his abuse and hit my mom harder." 0
"However, he got smarter; he stopped hitting her in the face so we wouldn't see the injuries." 0

"Once, he stripped my mom right in front of me." 0
"He kicked my mom, and she fell to her knees in pain." 0
"As he kicked her, he shouted, 'You filthy whore, don't you like calling the police?'" 0
"'Go ahead and report it!'" 0
"'Let the police see if I really hit you!'" 0
"I rushed over, wanting to protect my mom." 0
"My dad kicked me away." 0
"He pointed at me and said viciously, 'You better behave yourself!'" 0
"'Otherwise, I'll hit you too!'" 0
"From that day on, my mom didn't let me interfere with her anymore." 0
"She told me to focus on my studies and get into a good university." 0
"She said that as long as I got out, she could escape this family." 0
The police asked, "What happened after you went to university?" 0
I sighed, "When I went to university, I moved into a dorm." 0
"I thought that by being away from home, I wouldn't have to see my dad hit my mom again." 0
"But I was wrong." 0
"Every night, I could feel that my mom was being beaten by my dad again." 0
"I urged her to get a divorce, but she refused." 0
"She knew that my dad wouldn't let me go." 0
"I could only study hard, hoping to get into university so I could take my mom away from this home." 0
The police looked at me, a hint of sympathy in their eyes. 0
"So that's why you're so indifferent to your father's death?" 0
I sneered, "Am I indifferent?" 0
"What difference does it make if I'm not indifferent?" 0
"Should I cry?" 0
"Would that mean my mom would face violence from my dad again?" 0
The police frowned and said, "So you think it's right for your mother to kill?" 0

"Is it right to kill just because of long-term domestic violence?" I retorted, "Don't you find that strange?" 0

"My mother killed someone; was it really because she suffered from long-term domestic violence?" 0

The police officer asked, "What do you mean?" 0

I scoffed, "You must have checked, right?" 0

"At the time of the incident, our water meter was running." 0

"This indicates that my mom was using water." 0

"Was she cooking or taking a shower?" 0

"If she was cooking, why wasn't the food ready when my dad and Grandma died in the house?" 0

"If she was taking a shower, why would my dad and Grandma die in the house while she was bathing?" 0

The police officer coldly replied, "Your mother's statement is that your dad wanted to hit her because the food was too salty." 0

"In a moment of impulse, she grabbed a knife and stabbed your dad." 0

"Your grandmother saw this and tried to escape; your mother chased her down and also stabbed Grandma." 0

I was stunned. "How could that be possible?" 0

The police officer asked, "What’s impossible about it?" 0

I shook my head. "My mom wouldn't act so impulsively." 0

"If she were really that impulsive, she would have divorced my dad long ago." 0

"And even if my mom acted in a moment of impulse and stabbed my dad, why would Grandma run away?" 0

"She should have called the police immediately." 0

The police officer remained silent for a moment and said, "We will investigate." 0

"We'll stop here for today." 0

"You cannot leave; we still need to ask you more questions." 0
