Rao Jie let out a sigh of relief when she suddenly heard a thud, the sound of something falling. She turned her head and saw a notebook drop from the bedside table. Instinctively, she reached down to pick it up, but when she glanced at the open notebook, she froze.
Slowly, she crouched down and carefully picked up the notebook, cradling it in her hands. She noticed the name "Rao Jie" written on it, which caught her attention. As she began to read further, her desire to confront the man on the bed faded away. The surprise and gratitude in her heart completely overshadowed the anger and grievance from earlier.
Rao Jie never expected Wu Rong would do so much for her. The notebook was filled with detailed records of her learning progress. It outlined her weaknesses, where to start improving, areas for extension, her strengths, common mistakes due to carelessness, misunderstandings in her comprehension, and their root causes.
Every day's progress and every type of question were marked by Wu Rong. Rao Jie had always thought that Wu Rong was just casually teaching her, correcting her mistakes, and occasionally sharing insights to help her understand. She believed that half of her progress was due to her own efforts and comprehension skills. She thought Wu Rong's teaching required little effort on his part, at most taking up an hour of his time.
She had seen this notebook on the bedside table many times before, but looking back now, it seemed that it had only appeared since he started teaching her; she just never knew its purpose. Now she understood… Perhaps every night after she returned home and before he fell asleep, Wu Rong would thoughtfully reflect on what he taught her that day and plan for her future learning.
She was progressing at an astonishing rate, almost as if she had some sort of cheat. All her improvements were thanks to Wu Rong's dedication in teaching her. This was clearly just a casual response, yet it was treated with such seriousness and sincerity that it couldn't help but touch Rao Jie.
This long-lost warmth suddenly reminded her of her grandmother, the one person who had always treated her the best. Her grandmother was gentle, while Wu Rong was quite strict. Yet, they both gave Rao Jie the same feeling—being taken seriously.
Rao Jie couldn't help but close her eyes for a moment, calming her emotions. With Wu Rong treating her this way, how could she possibly blame him for such a small accident? She felt a growing admiration for him.
After some thought, Rao Jie decided to put down her notebook. She approached Wu Rong to cover him with a blanket, contemplating whether she should temporarily halt the lessons. It took up too much of Wu Rong's energy, and even if he was only spending a little extra time, she felt guilty about it.
As soon as the blanket was in place, Rao Jie glanced at Wu Rong's face, feeling a bit shy. But upon closer inspection, she suddenly sensed something was off. Wu Rong's face was... very red.
His skin was naturally pale, and this flush seemed abnormal, as if there were fire burning beneath it. Rao Jie couldn't help but recall their earlier kiss—the sensation of his lips and tongue had been incredibly hot. Just thinking about it made her cheeks flush, and she quickly shook her head to dispel the thought.
She realized something was wrong with Wu Rong. Reaching out to touch him, she found his skin burning hot to the touch. He must have a high fever; no wonder he had been so hard to wake up.
Panic set in for Rao Jie. The last time she had a fever, it was Wu Rong who took her to the hospital. But now, she couldn’t carry him and didn’t know how to drive. There was no way she could call an ambulance!
