After Chen Gang returned home, I pretended to be angry to hide my fear. Chen Gang didn't suspect anything; instead, he comforted me, saying he would spend more time with me in the future. I lowered my head, not wanting him to see the fear in my eyes. Suddenly, I realized that my phone was missing. My mother-in-law made soup for me every day. On the surface, it seemed like she was caring for me, but in reality, she was monitoring me. I was trapped in this courtyard and couldn't go anywhere. Chen Gang was often not home, leaving just my mother-in-law and me. When I was alone with her, she didn't exhibit any unusual behavior. It felt as if that night was just my imagination. One day, a neighbor came to visit my mother-in-law, and they whispered to each other in a dialect I couldn't understand. What were they talking about? I always felt like they were discussing me.
At night, the heavy iron gate of the courtyard would be locked tight. Sometimes, my mother-in-law would quietly push open my bedroom door in the middle of the night and stand by my bed watching me. I was terrified but dared not make a sound. My mother-in-law seemed frightened as well; she often had nightmares and would wake up screaming from them. Had she done something wrong?
One day, my mother-in-law suddenly asked me, "Xiao Ling, did you hear any strange noises last night?"
I frowned and replied, "What noises?"
My mother-in-law looked flustered and said, "Nothing... nothing at all."
Seeing her panicked expression, I had a hunch.
She must have some secret she doesn't want to reveal.
After that, my mother-in-law stopped peeking at me in the middle of the night.
However, strange noises began to appear in the yard.

Aunt Ma sighed and said, "Well, we’ve known each other for decades; of course I trust you. But you need to be careful not to let that girl find out about our business."
After my mother-in-law and Aunt Ma left, I fell into deep thought.
So it turned out that Xiao Xuan had been "dealt with" by my mother-in-law.
Aunt Ma said she saw me running away, but my mother-in-law didn't lock me up like she did with other women. Why? Is she observing me? Has she discovered something?
That night, my mother-in-law heard strange noises in the middle of the night. She took a flashlight and cautiously walked to my bedroom door. She pushed the door open and saw my body sitting upright on the bed. My hair hung over my face, covering half of it.
Tentatively, my mother-in-law called out, "Xiao Ling?" I didn't respond. She walked over to me. Suddenly, my head flipped back, revealing the back of my entire face. My hair cascaded down like a waterfall, leaving only my nose and mouth visible.
My mother-in-law screamed in terror and collapsed onto the floor. The next day, she asked me, "Xiao Ling, did you hear any strange noises last night?" I shook my head and replied, "No." She seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
