While everyone was chatting happily, the sound of high heels clicking on the concrete floor echoed from the hallway.
Then, the dormitory door was pushed open, and a young woman stood at the entrance, wearing glasses and high-heeled shoes.
The woman adjusted her glasses and scanned the room before saying, "Is Xia Xiaoyu in this dormitory?"
This statement left everyone momentarily stunned, and their gazes turned to the bewildered Xia Xiaoyu.
Xia Xiaoyu was equally taken aback. After a moment of hesitation, she stood up timidly and said, "That's me?"
The woman assessed Xia Xiaoyu for a moment, then nodded and said, "No need to be surprised. There was an error in the dormitory assignment report from the administration office. Your dormitory is actually in the south Girls' Dormitory on the fifth floor, room 514, bed number 4! Please arrange to move there."
"But I've already settled in here," Xia Xiaoyu replied, confused. How could the administration have made a mistake with her dormitory? The numbers were completely different!
Moreover, moving now would indeed be quite troublesome. Couldn't they just have the person living here move instead?
"I'm just the dormitory manager. I can take full responsibility for dormitory matters, but as for how the school assigns students' accommodations, that's beyond my control. If you have questions, you can speak with Director Sun from the administration office; he can provide you with an explanation."
The woman's tone was not particularly warm; it was monotonous, as if she were merely recounting something that had nothing to do with her.
"Oh!"
Xia Xiaoyu responded dejectedly.
"Mm!"
The woman merely nodded slightly and then stopped looking at Xia Xiaoyu, walking straight toward the other end of the corridor.
"How could they possibly arrange the dormitory wrong? Seriously!" Wang Tiantian muttered quietly.
"Forget it, I'll just move over. It's not a big deal," Xia Xiaoyu said with a helpless smile. She hadn't thought about what might happen after moving; right now, she just felt it would be a hassle.
"It's fine, I'll help you!" Li Hong chimed in, offering comfort.
Xia Xiaoyu smiled faintly!
A few girls helped organize Xia Xiaoyu's various belongings, and once everything was ready, they slowly headed toward the old dormitory building to the south.
As they walked through the small grove, the cherry blossom branches on both sides were in full bloom, vibrant and dazzling. A gentle breeze swept by, making the petals dance like willow fluff.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting a pleasant warmth on them.
A small grove of trees, meant for the school's aesthetics, led to an old building that appeared rather dull and lifeless.
It wasn't particularly old; it just looked quite different from the new Girls' Dormitory. Moreover, this dormitory building was not very attractive on the outside.
Li Hong and Wang Tiantian moved their luggage to the bottom of the dormitory but showed no intention of going upstairs.
The two of them looked at Xia Xiaoyu with some embarrassment. Their expressions suggested they weren't unwilling to send her off, but rather reluctant to enter this cold dormitory building!
"I'm sorry, but we'll just take you this far and won't go up!" Li Hong said apologetically to Xia Xiaoyu, her face showing a hint of shame.
"Ha ha, thank you both!"
Although a bit surprised, Xia Xiaoyu quickly regained her composure and didn't feel anything was amiss.
"Why don't you move your things to the entrance of the dormitory first? Then ask the administrator for a key to your room. If you can't carry everything in one go, just make a few trips. We'll keep an eye on your luggage down here!" Li Hong paused briefly before continuing, "Or you could just not move in right away. If you talk to Director Sun, she should agree since it's a bit far to come back here after class at night."
"It's fine. Besides, the administration has arranged it this way; it can't be changed so casually. Don't worry! This dormitory houses many students, so I won't be scared coming back at night!" Xia Xiaoyu clearly didn't understand what Li Hong was hinting at and simply smiled slightly as she spoke.
"I'm not saying you'll be scared coming back alone at night; I'm talking about this dormitory's past..." Li Hong shook her head and then added, "Forget it. Let's not discuss that anymore. You should hurry and move your things. It's almost mealtime, and soon the administrator will be hard to find!"
