"Ah, what?" Lin Xi looked at Xia Xiaoyu in confusion.
"That's not it! I was originally living in the New Girls' Dormitory Building too, but halfway through, the Administrator over there said the Teaching Office made a mistake and told me to move here!" Xia Xiaoyu was taken aback.
"Ah!"
Now it was Lin Xi's turn to be surprised.
Both of them were astonished. It was possible for them to be arranged in the same dormitory, but they both started out in the New Girls' Dormitory Building and then coincidentally both had their dormitory assignments mixed up. That was just too unreasonable.
One coincidence could be explained, but multiple coincidences added together? That definitely wasn't just mere chance.
Could it be that someone arranged this on purpose?
"Alright, let's not think about that anymore! Since we've moved in, there's no point in pondering it. Let's tidy up the dormitory first; it's a mess!"
After thinking for a while without reaching any conclusion, Xia Xiaoyu pouted and decided not to dwell on it. She glanced at the untidy dormitory they had just moved into and said to Lin Xi.
"Okay! Sure!"
Lin Xi replied with a smile.
Although Xia Xiaoyu was delicate, she was quite adept at household chores, a skill that came naturally to girls.
In contrast, Lin Xi, being a young lady who had been cared for by her parents at home, found herself somewhat clumsy when it came to doing housework.
The two people quickly became lively, as it had been a long time since they last met. The joy of seeing each other again sparked a flurry of conversation!
"Xia Xiaoyu, why has your phone number been out of service? I graduated and tried calling many times, but I couldn't get through!" Lin Xi said while holding a broom.
"That hasn't worked for a long time!" Xia Xiaoyu replied dismissively.
"Oh right, when did you register, and in which classrooms?"
Xia Xiaoyu was wiping down the bed frame while casually asking.
...
However, there was no response!
"Xiao Xi, I'm asking you a question?" Seeing Lin Xi standing there in a daze, Xia Xiaoyu looked puzzled and paused before turning to Lin Xi.
Lin Xi seemed completely frozen, still standing there, with his eyes fixed on the doorway!
"What are you doing?"
Xia Xiaoyu frowned and raised her voice a few decibels!
"Xia Xiaoyu, did... did you see... anything?" Lin Xi stammered, his words unclear.
Xia Xiaoyu was even more puzzled. She glanced at the dormitory door and asked Lin Xi, "What did you see?"
"A shadow! Didn't you see it? A shadow went out from the dormitory!" Lin Xi said, still shaken.
"A shadow? Where would there be a shadow? Are you seeing things?" Xia Xiaoyu suddenly found it a bit funny. How had her high school best friend become so suspicious?
"I’m sure it was a person's shadow. It just went out of the dormitory!" Lin Xi insisted.
Xia Xiaoyu wasn't frightened by Lin Xi's words. She looked at the balcony and then at the glass in front, where the angle of reflection was just right at the dormitory door.
"Well, it's not strange. Just look at the reflection in the glass; if there's something outside, it would cast a shadow!" Xia Xiaoyu said calmly.
However, she overlooked one point: they were on the Fifth Floor, and if there were someone outside, they would definitely be visible. Unfortunately, there was nothing at all!
"Maybe I was just seeing things!" Compared to Xia Xiaoyu's explanation, Lin Xi was more inclined to believe that she had imagined it; after all, it had only been a brief moment.
Seeing things wasn't impossible, right?
