Her disdain for me was clearly written on her face. She looked down at me with an air of superiority, as if I were something filthy.
" Lin Nuannuan, a woman like you doesn't deserve to marry my brother!"
"I'll tell you this: my brother was confused for a moment to be with you. I absolutely will not agree to this marriage!"
I didn't care about what she said; I just hoped she would make a bigger scene because I didn't want to marry him either.
When Han Weiting returned, Han Xiaotian rushed up to him. "Brother, I want you to break up with her!"
Han Weiting looked at her coldly. "Impossible."
Han Xiaotian was so angry she stomped her feet, while I stood by, watching indifferently.
At the dinner table, Han Xiaotian continued to provoke me.
" Lin Nuannuan, you're really shameless. What are you doing here?"
" Lin Nuannuan, if you don't speak, no one will take you for a mute. Why are you pretending to be pitiful?"
" Lin Nuannuan, say something! Why aren't you talking?"
Han Weiting raised his head and frowned. "Rui Xin, eat properly."
Han Xiaotian sulked and closed her mouth, while I felt increasingly uncomfortable.
The meal was tasteless and suffocating; I struggled to breathe several times. Finally, I couldn't hold it in anymore.
Han Weiting was startled by me and quickly stood up, patting my back. "What's wrong, Nuan Nuan?"
I shook my head. "I'm fine; I probably just ate something bad."
Han Weiting furrowed his brows, about to say something when his phone suddenly rang.
While he answered the call, Han Xiaotian raised an eyebrow at me. " Lin Nuannuan, back then my brother bullied you so much and you put up with it; I really underestimated you."
"A person like you would do anything for money; I truly look down on you."
I kept my head down and ignored her.
Seeing that I wasn't responding, Han Xiaotian pulled out a stack of photos from her bag and threw them in front of me.
" Lin Nuannuan, take a good look at what kind of wretched person you were back then!"
I glanced down at the photos; they showed me in a sorry state—either with my hair cut off or splattered with ink.
That is all my dark history.
My shame.
My fingertips tingle, and my body trembles uncontrollably.
I picked up the teapot on the table and hurled it at Han Xiaotian.
Han Xiaotian was scalded and screamed, "Ah—"
Han Weiting heard the noise and rushed over.
He looked at me, then at Han Xiaotian, and gently patted my head in mild anger: " Lin Nuannuan, why are you throwing a tantrum again?"
He was clearly angry but still considered my feelings and didn't yell at me.
I bit my lip tightly, pretending to be wronged, looking up at him with tear-filled eyes.
Han Weiting immediately softened and hugged me: "Alright, alright, it's my fault; I shouldn't have been harsh with you."
He turned to Han Xiaotian: "Rui Xin, you should go back now."
Han Xiaotian stared wide-eyed in disbelief at Han Weiting: "Bro, what kind of spell has this woman cast on you?"
"Bro, you weren't like this before!"
Han Weiting looked at her coldly: "How I am is not for you to judge."
"Han Xiaotian, don't challenge my bottom line."
Han Xiaotian left in tears.
Han Weiting, what do you really mean?
Since you pulled me into hell, why give me hope?
Do you know that this only makes me suffer more?
That night, Han Weiting lay beside me, but I couldn't sleep at all.
I opened my eyes and looked at the moon outside the window, feeling desolate inside.
Han Weiting, how am I supposed to forget you?
How am I supposed to escape from you?
How am I supposed to... live on?
Despair washed over me like a tide, drowning me.
I felt as if I were in the middle of the ocean; no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn't escape the embrace of the giant waves.
I can only let myself drown, suffocate.
In the deep of night, Han Weiting sleeps soundly.
He looks like an angel in his sleep.
But I know he is a devil.
I reach out and gently stroke his cheek.
Han Weiting, why do you treat me this way?
Why?
I want to wake him up, to ask him what he truly wants.
But I can't do it.
I can't do anything.
I can only silently endure all of this, quietly suffer through it.
I turn over and roll off the bed.
I stab the sharp object into my thigh with force.
The intense pain wakes me up and numbs me at the same time.
Only this way can I vent the pain inside my heart.
Han Weiting is startled awake by the noise I make.
He turns on the light and is shocked to see me lying on the floor.
He hurriedly gets out of bed and picks me up: "Nuan Nuan, what happened to you?"
I shake my head and say nothing.
Han Weiting tenderly helps me rub my wound: "Does it hurt a lot?"
I nod, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
Seeing me cry, Han Weiting immediately panics: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's all my fault."
"Nuan Nuan, please don't cry; you can hit me or scold me, just don't hurt yourself."
"It makes me heartbroken."
