The fat man looked at the man lying in a pool of blood before him, once a formidable opponent, now resembling a wounded lone wolf, gasping weakly. The battle knife in his hand still dripped with blood, but instead of the anticipated joy, a wave of indescribable sorrow surged within the fat man.
"Huo Qing, there was never any personal enmity between us. How did it come to this..." The fat man sighed deeply, his tone tinged with regret.
Huo Qing coughed up a mouthful of blood, staining the armor on his chest. He struggled to say something but could only emit a few indistinct groans.
"Messenger! Quickly send for a military doctor; we must save General Huo's life!" The fat man commanded loudly to the nearby Messenger, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
"Yes!" The Messenger complied and hurried away, knowing that although their general appeared fierce on the surface, he was not a bloodthirsty person at heart.
"General, what is happening..." Cang Feng rode up beside the fat man, confusion written all over his face as he took in the scene.
The fat man ignored Cang Feng's question and simply gazed at Huo Qing, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
In the distance, Huo Qing's army had already collapsed; soldiers scattered in all directions, with only a few loyal guards still fighting desperately.
"General, the enemy has been routed. Should we pursue them?" Cang Feng asked again when he saw that the fat man did not respond.
The fat man withdrew his gaze, a glimmer of determination flashing in his eyes. He mounted his horse and pointed toward the direction of the enemy commander’s camp, loudly ordering, "Relay the command: assemble the entire army! Our target is the enemy commander’s camp. Today, I will capture their commander alive!"
"Yes!" The Messenger once again took off to relay the orders.
Leading his troops like an arrow released from its bow, the fat man charged toward the enemy commander’s camp. Wherever they passed, enemy soldiers scattered and dared not obstruct them.
Cang Feng watched the fat man's retreating figure with a sense of unease but said nothing more and silently followed behind.
"Kill!"
Amidst the thunderous battle cries, the Fat Man led his army, breaking through the defenses of the enemy's main camp with unstoppable force, victory seemingly within reach.
However, at that moment, an unexpected turn of events occurred!
"General, be careful!" Cang Feng suddenly shouted, swinging his sword to deflect a cold arrow aimed at the Fat Man.
Startled, the Fat Man turned sharply to see that the enemy forces, which had previously fled, had somehow returned and surrounded them completely.
At the forefront stood none other than the heavily injured Huo Qing!
The Fat Man's pupils constricted; Huo Qing's figure struck him like a thunderbolt in his mind. He abruptly pulled on the reins, causing his warhorse to rear up and let out a loud neigh. "How could this be..." he muttered in disbelief, his tone filled with shock.
"Roselle, long time no see," Huo Qing said, riding a black warhorse as he slowly emerged from the enemy ranks, a cold smile playing on his lips and a glint of malice in his eyes.
Cang Feng furrowed his brow and whispered, "General, the situation has changed; we must retreat immediately!"
The Fat Man fell silent for a moment; he knew Cang Feng was right—the current situation was extremely unfavorable for them. Taking a deep breath to force himself to calm down, he ordered in a deep voice, "Relay the command: the entire army break through to the south!"
"Yes!" The Messenger quickly conveyed the order, and the imperial soldiers swiftly turned their horses around to regroup toward the south.
"Thinking of escaping? Do you really think I will let you have your way?" Huo Qing snorted coldly, raising his spear high and commanding loudly, "All troops attack—leave none alive!"
The thunderous battle cries erupted once more as enemy forces surged like a tide, completely surrounding the imperial army.
"Qingyin!" the Fat Man shouted loudly.
Not far away, Qingyin rode a white unicorn and quickly reached the side of the stout man, her face showing a hint of worry as she asked, "Father, what happened?"
"Use your magic to cover the army's retreat!" The stout man's tone was urgent, his eyes filled with anxiety.
Qingyin nodded, swiftly forming hand seals and chanting incantations. Waves of magical light flew from her hands, transforming into a rain of fire and ice arrows that poured down upon the enemy forces.
"Kill!" Cang Feng led a squad of elite cavalry, charging at the forefront to carve out a bloody path for the army. His sword became a streak of silver lightning, cutting down enemies in its wake.
"General, I'll cover you; you need to go!" Cang Feng shouted as he fought fiercely.
The stout man looked deeply at Cang Feng; he knew this was not the time to hesitate. He turned his horse around, leading Qingyin and several guards southward to break through.
Seeing this, Huo Qing's eyes flashed with cold light. He urged his warhorse forward, chasing after the stout man while shouting loudly, "Roselle, you can't escape!"
The stout man and his group fought desperately to break through; however, they were soon surrounded by overwhelming enemy numbers.
"Father, be careful!" Qingyin suddenly exclaimed, waving her staff as a magical barrier appeared in front of the stout man, blocking several arrows aimed at him.
"Qingyin, are you alright?" the stout man asked with concern.
"I'm fine, Father; you need to go!" Qingyin urged anxiously.
The stout man gritted his teeth; he knew he could no longer hesitate. He dismounted and pulled Qingyin onto his horse, saying in a deep voice, "You go; I'll hold them off!"
"No, Father! I want to stay with you!" Qingyin tightly grasped the stout man's hand, refusing to let go.
"Listen, hurry and go!" The fat man suddenly pushed Qingyin away from his side.
"Foster father!" Qingyin cried out in despair, tears welling in her eyes.
The fat man turned around to face the surging enemy forces, a resolute expression on his face. He drew the sword from his waist, pointing its blade towards the sky, and let out a deafening roar: "Come on!"
"Kill!" The enemy forces shouted with a thunderous battle cry as they charged towards the fat man.
Wielding his longsword, the fat man fought like a tiger among sheep, carving a bloody path through the enemy ranks. However, outnumbered, he was soon surrounded and sustained multiple injuries.
Just as despair began to set in, a thunderous drumbeat echoed from afar. Suddenly, an army appeared on the horizon, sweeping towards the battlefield like a torrent of steel.
"It's reinforcements; our reinforcements have arrived!"
"We're saved!"
Seeing this, the imperial soldiers' morale soared as they erupted in cheers.
The fat man looked up and saw that the banner of the reinforcements bore a striking golden character for "Dragon."
"It's the Dragon Riders!" The fat man recognized the origin of this army and a smile of joy spread across his face. "We're saved!"
