On a summer night, the heat was overwhelming.
On the terrace, Shen Linxi sat in a chair while I knelt beside him, close enough to feel his presence. I cupped his face in my hands and studied him closely. "Did you often sneak glances at me before?"
Shen Linxi raised an eyebrow. "How did you know?"
I huffed, "I just knew!"
He smiled. "Yeah, I watched you every day."
I was taken aback, my cheeks starting to heat up. "…After so many times, I never noticed once."
Shen Linxi chuckled softly. "Do you know when I first saw you?"
Curious, I asked, "When?"
He looked deeply into my eyes. "Jiang Banxia, do you really not remember me?"
I wanted to say that I did remember, but the truth was, I really didn't. I didn't want to see the disappointment on his face, so I lowered my head like a quail.
Shen Linxi sighed and ran his fingers through my hair. "Jiang Banxia, you have such a cruel heart."
My heart skipped a beat, and I instinctively looked up at him. "What do you mean?"
He lowered his gaze. "It's nothing."
I was silent.
He pressed my hand down gently. "Don't shrink away."
I remained quiet.
He laughed softly and leaned closer to my ear. "What's wrong? After all this time, you're still shy?"
I couldn't respond; my cheeks were burning, and I dared not look up at him.
At that moment, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind me.
"Shen Linxi?"
I stiffened; it was Cheng Cheng.
He walked over and asked, "Are you smoking?"
Shen Linxi lazily replied with a hum.
Cheng Cheng asked again, "Did you see Jiang Banxia just now?"
My heart skipped a beat, and I instinctively held my breath.
Shen Linxi chuckled lightly, "What? She wasn't with you?"
Cheng Cheng's tone was somewhat displeased, "She went to take a call just now."
Shen Linxi responded with an "Oh," "Then I don't know."
Cheng Cheng glanced outside at the terrace, "I'll go look for her."
After saying that, he turned and walked out.
I let out a sigh of relief, but the next second, my phone suddenly rang.
Oh no!
My mind went blank as I hurriedly hung up the call.
But it was already too late.
Cheng Cheng paused his steps and turned to look at us.
"Banxia?"
I instinctively shrank back, trying to hide myself.
Shen Linxi pressed down on my shoulder, "Get up."
I looked at him with a flushed face, "You messed up my clothes."
Shen Linxi smiled slightly.
I wanted to stand up and pull down my dress.
Shen Linxi grabbed my wrist and said, "Don't wear that. I'll carry you back."
My cheeks burned, "I can walk by myself."
Shen Linxi didn't insist; he waited for me to fix my clothes before taking my hand and leading me toward the private room.
Cheng Cheng was still standing in place, and when he saw Shen Linxi holding my hand, his expression darkened.
"Shen Linxi, you and Banxia..."
Shen Linxi's expression was calm. "As you can see."
Cheng Cheng's face grew even darker. "When did you two get together?"
Shen Linxi smiled slightly. "That doesn't seem to concern you."
Cheng Cheng glanced at me. "Banxia, you tell him."
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing, "Huh?"
Cheng Cheng gritted his teeth. "When did you start dating him?"
I blinked. "It seems like... it's been three months?"
Cheng Cheng was stunned. "That long? Jiang Banxia, why didn't you tell me?"
I was confused. "Why should I tell you?"
Cheng Cheng fell silent, his expression complex—there was unwillingness, anger, jealousy, and a mocking disdain, but mostly disbelief.
"Jiang Banxia, the person in the classroom that day was you, right?"
I nodded softly.
