After leaving the restaurant, Xiao Mei and the others continued to pester Lu Hao for photos, while I stood by quietly watching them.
Lu Hao chatted with them for a moment, then suddenly turned his head and winked at me. "I need to talk to you," he said.
"What is it?" I asked, puzzled.
"Come a little closer," Lu Hao whispered.
I hesitated for a moment before walking over to him. He bent down, leaned close to my ear, and lowered his voice. "I have a request that I need your help with."
His warm breath brushed against my ear, making me shiver involuntarily. I rubbed my ear and asked curiously, "What request?"
"I'm not sure yet," Lu Hao straightened up and smiled at me. "I'll tell you once I figure it out."
"Oh," I nodded in confusion and asked again, "Is it important?"
"Yes," Lu Hao nodded seriously. "Very important."
"Then hurry up and figure it out," I said. "You don't have to wait until next time; I'll treat you to dinner tonight."
Lu Hao: "..."
He couldn't help but laugh, reaching out to ruffle my hair. "Silly girl."
Me: "..."
I glared at him in frustration. "I'm not silly!"
Lu Hao chuckled but didn't say anything further.
Xiao Mei and the others noticed that Lu Hao and I were whispering together and immediately became displeased.
"Hey, what are you two talking about?" Xiao Mei shouted. "Why can't we listen?"
Xiao Min and Xiao Xue chimed in, "Exactly!"
I sighed and shrugged my shoulders. "It's nothing; he just said he has a request that needs my help."
"A request?" The eyes of Xiao Mei and her friends lit up. "What kind of request?"
"I don't know either," I shook my head. "He didn't say."
"Tch—" Xiao Mei and her friends pouted. "Trying to be mysterious!"
Lu Hao smiled but didn't explain further.
We chatted for a while longer before dispersing back to our dorms. That night, I tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep no matter what.
In my mind, the handsome face of Lu Hao kept flashing before me, making my heart race.
I couldn't help but pick up my phone and open WeChat, where I saw a message from Lu Hao.
Lu Hao: Are you asleep?
Me: Not yet.
Lu Hao: Then let's go for a walk.
Me: Now?
Lu Hao: Yeah.
I thought for a moment and replied: Okay.
I got up, changed my clothes, and quietly walked out of the dormitory.
It was already late at night, and the campus was very quiet.
The bright moonlight poured down, illuminating the tree-lined path and the benches by the side.
I walked to a bench, sat down, and waited quietly.
Before long, Lu Hao arrived.
He sat down beside me and gently asked, "Why aren't you wearing a scarf?"
"I forgot," I smiled, "but it's fine."
Lu Hao paused for a moment, took off his scarf, and wrapped it around my neck.
Me: "..."
I looked up at him in surprise.
He looked back at me with warm and gentle eyes.
My heart skipped a beat, and I hurriedly lowered my head, mumbling a thank you.
Lu Hao smiled but didn't say anything.
We sat there quietly, neither of us speaking or leaving.
After a long time, Lu Hao finally spoke up.
He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, "Li Ting, I do have a request."
"Mm," I replied softly, "go ahead."
Lu Hao: "..."
He fell silent for a moment before saying, "I think I'm still missing a girlfriend."
Me: "..."
I was stunned.
I stared at him blankly, taking a while to process what he had just said. I swallowed hard and hesitantly asked, "What... what do you mean?"
Lu Hao remained silent.
He turned his head to look at me, his gaze deep and resolute. "Li Ting," he said slowly, "would you be my girlfriend?"
I was speechless.
I froze again, staring at him with my mind completely blank. Was he... confessing to me? Should I agree to him? My heart was in turmoil, and I had no idea how to respond.
Seeing that I hadn't answered for a long time, a hint of disappointment flashed in Lu Hao's eyes. He forced a smile and said, "It's okay, take your time to think about it. You don't have to rush your answer."
"That's not it," I shook my head. "I didn't mean that."
"Then what do you mean?" Lu Hao asked tentatively.
I bit my lip, gathering my courage to ask, "Can I know why you like me?"
Lu Hao paused for a moment before softly saying, "I don't really know either."
"Huh?" I looked at him in confusion.
He smiled and continued, "Maybe it's because you give me a very different feeling."
"What feels different?" I asked curiously.
