After school, all the classmates left. Suddenly, someone knocked on the window. I looked up and saw my brother. I smiled, packed my bag, and left the school.
My brother asked, "Why are you home so early today?" I replied, "The homeroom teacher wouldn't let me participate in the competition, so what was I supposed to do in the classroom?" My brother raised an eyebrow, "Why wouldn't he let you participate?" I answered, "Isn't it because they saw that I won against Zhu Yufeng last time and are afraid I'll threaten Zhu Yufeng's guaranteed spot? So they're just stringing me along?" My brother frowned, "That's too much! I'm going to talk to him!" I grabbed my brother's sleeve, "Forget it; I don't want to participate anyway." He sighed, "Alright."
"By the way, Dad wants you to go to the company to find him tonight." I nodded, "Okay, got it."
In the evening, I arrived at Dad's office. He was looking at some documents. When he saw me come in, he put down the papers and smiled, "No competition today?" I shook my head, "No." Dad asked, "Why didn't they let you participate?" I replied, "The homeroom teacher is afraid I'll threaten Zhu Yufeng's guaranteed spot." Dad frowned, "How can he do that?" I laughed and said, "It's fine; I didn't want to participate anyway." Dad sighed helplessly, "You're always so obedient."
"But it's probably for the best that you don't participate. You've been too tired lately; you should rest well." He added, "Once your college entrance exams are over, I'll take you abroad for a trip." I smiled sweetly, "Thank you, Dad." Dad patted my head and said, "So good."
"Go sit on the sofa for now; I'll finish up and take you home." I nodded and walked over to sit on the sofa.
Bored, I took out my phone to scroll through the news. Suddenly, I came across a headline: "A certain high school Vice Principal arrested for embezzlement."
I was taken aback. How could the Vice Principal get arrested? I read the article carefully, but it didn't provide much detail. It only mentioned that the Vice Principal had embezzled public funds, without specifying the amount.
I looked up at my dad and asked, "Dad, do you know about the Vice Principal getting arrested?"
He nodded. "Yes."
Curious, I asked, "What happened?"
He replied, "The Vice Principal embezzled public funds and was reported."
I inquired, "Who reported him?"
Dad chuckled, "That's not something you need to worry about."
I frowned. "This isn't related to you, is it?"
Dad coughed a couple of times. "Don't say things like that."
I had a feeling I knew the answer. The Vice Principal's arrest must have been Dad's doing. But I couldn't understand why he would do such a thing. The Vice Principal had no grievances against him; there was no reason for Dad to target him.
Could it be because of me? Did Dad send the Vice Principal to prison to protect me? But I had no conflict with the Vice Principal either. Although he was the Vice Principal, he didn't handle teaching matters directly. I hardly interacted with him; how could he possibly have anything against me?
I was puzzled. Dad seemed to notice my confusion and smiled. "Don't overthink it. This has nothing to do with you."
I sighed softly, "Alright."
When we got home that evening, Dad said to my brother, "You need to go to the police station."
My brother asked, "Why?"
Dad replied, "To bail out the Vice Principal."
My brother raised an eyebrow, "Didn't you just send him in? Why are you bailing him out now?"
Dad chuckled, "This is called giving a slap and then a sweet date."
My brother looked confused, "What does that mean?"
Dad explained, "Although the Vice Principal is guilty of embezzlement, the amount isn't large."
"He'll be out in a few months."
"I'm asking you to bail him out so he remembers this lesson."
My brother suddenly understood, "I get it now."
"You want him to be grateful to you and listen to you from now on."
Dad smiled without saying a word.
My brother gave a thumbs up, "Old ginger is still spicier!"
"Dad, you're amazing."
Dad shot him a glance, "Stop flattering me and go get it done."
My brother nodded and left the house.
Curiously, I asked, "Dad, aren't you worried about him seeking revenge on you after you have my brother bail him out?"
Dad sneered, "He wouldn't dare."
"If I can send him in, I can also bail him out."
"If he dares to retaliate against me, I can ruin his reputation."
I gave Dad a thumbs up, "Dad, you're incredible."
Dad patted my head, "Don't worry; I won't let anyone hurt you."
I felt warm inside.
