We ran to the edge of the ravine and stopped in our tracks. The Qiu Long also chased us to the edge, halting and continuously emitting a series of howls.
We looked at the deep ravine in panic; it was bottomless and dark, with chilling winds occasionally blowing up from its depths, sending shivers down our spines. We exchanged glances, thinking, "Is this where we are to meet our end today?"
The Qiu Long circled in the air for a moment, seemingly spotting us. It suddenly raised its head and let out a deafening dragon roar. The sound echoed through the valley, lingering for a long time and causing our eardrums to ache.
Terrified, we quickly covered our ears and stared in fear at the Qiu Long. After a moment of howling, it dove down towards us. The Qiu Long was massive, with long whiskers and a gaping maw revealing sharp fangs within. Its scales glimmered coldly, shining like steel under the moonlight.
It charged at us with unstoppable force, reaching us in an instant. In a panic, we hurriedly stepped back. However, the Qiu Long refused to let us go and relentlessly pursued us from behind.
We ran desperately, but the Qiu Long was closing in fast. Just as it seemed about to catch us, a shadow suddenly flashed by—Da Huang appeared before us.
It barked fiercely at the Qiu Long, which surprisingly halted and stared at Da Huang. Seizing this opportunity, we hurriedly escaped to safety.
The Qiu Long and Da Huang exchanged glances for a moment before suddenly turning around and flying deep into the ravine, disappearing in an instant.
We let out a sigh of relief and collapsed onto the ground, taking some time to regain our composure. After discussing it among ourselves, we decided to temporarily retreat down the mountain and return another day to challenge the Qiu Long again. So we made our way back along the mountain path to the village.
When our older brothers saw us return safely, they were very happy and gathered around us, asking about everything.
We briefly recounted what had happened, and upon hearing it, our older brothers turned pale with fear. They advised, "That Qiu Long is so vicious; you must not take any more risks. If you lose your lives, it won't be worth it."
We nodded in gratitude but secretly resolved to complete our mission.
After resting for a night, we got up early the next day to discuss strategies. We took out our weapons and laid them on the table for careful examination.
A Meng's sword was sharp but lacked versatility, making it difficult to inflict damage on Qiu Long. Xiao Xiao's slingshot was agile but too weak to deal a fatal blow to Qiu Long. My spear was powerful, but Qiu Long's robust body and hard scales rendered it ineffective as well.
After studying for half a day, we couldn't come up with any good solutions. Finally, we decided to combine the characteristics of our weapons with the terrain to devise a strategy against the enemy.
We agreed to use bait again to lure Qiu Long out and then take the opportunity to launch a surprise attack. So, we teamed up with the villagers to catch some wild game and took them up the mountain.
At the mountain top, we hid the wild game and then caught a small chicken, bringing it to the edge of Xuanchi. We spread out in a triangular formation, surrounding Xuanchi.
