I opened my phone and clicked on the chat with Cheng Bai. The last message was still from a month ago, a cold "It's over" that I had sent.
Taking a deep breath, I edited a new message: "Keke misses you. Let's meet at the usual place tomorrow at ten in the morning. Don't be late."
I hit send without any hesitation, just like everything I had done over the past month—decisive and resolute.
Turning off my phone, I stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the bustling night scene of the city, yet feeling a sense of calm inside.
Cheng Bai saw the message from Jiang Jia and nearly jumped with excitement.
"She finally wants to see me!"
He couldn't wait to meet Jiang Jia and Keke right away but held back his eagerness, carefully reading Jiang Jia's text, afraid of missing a single word.
"The usual place..."
That was the café where they had gone on countless dates, filled with many beautiful memories.
Cheng Bai felt a glimmer of hope. He immediately dialed Jiang Jia's number, but a cold mechanical voice came through: "Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy..."
The next morning at nine-thirty, I arrived at the café with Keke.
"Mommy, why are we here?" Keke asked curiously.
"Because Daddy misses you, so we're here to wait for him," I said softly, patting Keke's head.
Keke nodded as if she understood but remained silent, her innocent big eyes curiously scanning the surroundings.
At exactly ten o'clock, the café door swung open, and Cheng Bai's figure appeared in the doorway.
He looked much haggard, with unkempt stubble and deep-set eyes. His once well-fitted clothes now appeared loose and empty, and he had lost the spirited demeanor he once had.
When he saw me and Keke, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, and he quickly walked over.
"You’re here," I said lightly, my tone revealing no emotion.
Cheng Bai opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately said nothing. He just stared at me blankly, his eyes filled with guilt and self-reproach.
"Daddy!"
Keke exclaimed happily upon seeing Cheng Bai, jumping off her chair and running toward him.
Cheng Bai scooped Keke up in his arms, holding her tightly against him.
"Keke, Daddy missed you so much..."
I quietly watched the father-daughter duo without saying a word.
"This is..."
A sweet voice interrupted the tender moment between Cheng Bai and Keke.
I turned to see a young, beautiful girl standing not far away, looking at us with a puzzled expression.
The girl wore exquisite makeup and fashionable clothing, holding a designer handbag, radiating youthful energy.
Without needing to ask, I already knew who she was.
"He Jia, what are you doing here?" Cheng Bai's face showed a hint of panic upon seeing the girl, his tone slightly impatient.
I smiled faintly, stood up, and said to Cheng Bai, "I have something to attend to; I’ll be leaving now. You two take your time to chat."
With that, I turned and walked away without any hesitation.
“Jiang Jia!”
Cheng Bai wanted to catch up, but He Jia grabbed him.
“Cheng Bai, who is she?” He Jia questioned, pointing at my back.
Cheng Bai's expression immediately turned sour.
He took a deep breath, trying to suppress his inner anger, and coldly replied, “My business is none of your concern.”
With that, he shook off He Jia's hand and strode towards me.
“Jiang Jia, wait for me!”
He Jia stood still, watching Cheng Bai's retreating figure with eyes full of resentment.
She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging deep into her flesh, yet she felt no pain at all.
I hailed a taxi and left with Keke.
Through the car window, I saw Cheng Bai chasing after us but being blocked by the heavy flow of traffic across the street.
He looked so helpless, so desperate.
My heart suddenly ached for no reason.
But I quickly pushed that strange emotion aside.
Cheng Bai, today is your turn!
I scoffed softly, withdrawing my gaze and no longer looking at him.
The taxi carried me and Keke away, gradually disappearing into the vast sea of people...

Cheng Bai desperately tried to cross the flow of traffic, but he overestimated his stamina and underestimated the density of the vehicles. Cars whizzed past him, their horns blaring deafeningly, making it nearly impossible for him to move forward.
"Jiang Jia, wait for me!"
He shouted in his mind, but no sound escaped his lips.
As he watched the taxi drive further away until it vanished from sight, Cheng Bai collapsed helplessly onto the ground, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead and soaking his shirt.
Regret, self-blame, and despair washed over him like a tide; he clutched his head in anguish, letting out a series of inhuman howls.
"Cheng Bai, what act are you putting on this time?"
He Jia's voice rang in his ears, laced with mockery and a hint of triumph.
Cheng Bai looked up to see He Jia standing before him, looking down with a sneer on her face.
"What are you doing here?" Cheng Bai asked, his voice hoarse.
