Green Tea put down her wine glass, her gaze wandering back and forth between us, a meaningful smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "You two are truly in love, making others envious. However, some matters are better discussed openly, don't you think, Guo Lingxi?" 0

I was taken aback; she had directly called my name! 0

Du Ming's expression darkened as well, his aura shifting dramatically as he coldly asked, "What do you mean?" 0

"My meaning is quite simple," Green Tea's smile gradually faded, her eyes sharpening. "You both have gone to great lengths to approach me, haven't you? It's just to inquire about the 'Eternal Life' plan? Why bother with pretense and deceit?" 0

I forced myself to remain calm and retorted, "Miss Green is joking. My husband and I know nothing about any 'Eternal Life' plan." 0

"Know nothing?" Green Tea scoffed, clapping her hands. Suddenly, the lights around us dimmed, and a group of men in black emerged from nowhere, surrounding us. 0

It dawned on me that we had fallen into a trap! 0

The men in black advanced aggressively, each exuding a murderous intent; they were clearly well-trained thugs. I instinctively tightened my grip on Du Ming's hand, my palm slick with cold sweat. Du Ming grasped my hand back firmly, his eyes conveying a message: "Don't be afraid; I'm here." 0

His spiritual energy surged around him as he instantly repelled several of the approaching men in black. However, outnumbered, we were soon cornered. Just at that critical moment, a flash of white light appeared, accompanied by an elderly yet powerful voice: "Who dares to be so reckless here!" 0

Before the words had fully left his mouth, an old man in a gray robe appeared before us out of thin air. His hair and beard were completely white, but he looked vigorous and alert; his eyes sparkled with intelligence as if he could see through everything. With just a wave of his hand, the black-clad men fell to the ground as if struck by an invisible force. 0

"Who is this senior?" Du Ming asked warily but with a hint of respect. 0

The old man did not answer directly but glanced at us and said calmly, "Follow me." With that, he turned and walked away. Du Ming and I exchanged glances; though filled with confusion, we chose to follow him. 0

The old man led us through winding alleys until we arrived at a secluded teahouse. He gestured for us to sit down while he took a seat across from us and began brewing tea leisurely. 0

"Thank you for saving us," I broke the silence first. "May I ask your name so that we may repay you in the future?" 0

The old man waved his hand dismissively. "It was just a small effort; there's no need to mention it. My surname is Zhang; you can call me Old Zhang." 0

"Old Zhang," Du Ming asked, "why did you choose to save us?" 0

Old Zhang looked at us thoughtfully and replied slowly, "I know you are investigating the 'Eternal Life' plan and that you've encountered trouble. I intervened today simply because I couldn't bear to see you die for nothing." 0

"You also know about the 'Eternal Life' plan?" I asked in surprise. 0

Old Zhang nodded. "The 'Eternal Life' plan is significant; I've certainly heard of it. However, this matter is complex; it's best for young people like you not to get involved." 0

"But..." I wanted to ask more but was stopped by Du Ming. 0

"Thank you for your warning, Old Zhang; we will be careful," Du Ming said. 0

After expressing our gratitude to Old Zhang, we left the teahouse. Although we had escaped one crisis, the failure of this operation plunged us into even greater danger. 0

Upon returning to the Du Family estate, we were met with Mr. Du's fury. He blamed our failure on us being overly complacent, believing it was our carelessness that led to such an outcome. 0

"Do you know how much loss this failure will bring to the Du Family?" Mr. Du said angrily, "I originally thought that you young people could bring new hope to the family, but I never expected you to be so reckless!" 0

I wanted to explain, but was interrupted by Mr. Du waving his hand: "Enough! I don't want to hear any explanations! From today on, you all need to reflect properly. Without my permission, you are not allowed to interfere in family matters!" 0

Du Ming and I were confined to our own courtyard, and Mr. Du's trust in us had plummeted. I knew we had to find evidence quickly to prove our innocence; otherwise, we would completely lose the trust of the Du Family. The days of confinement were harder than I had imagined. Mr. Du's anger felt like a mountain pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. Even worse, there were undercurrents within the Du Family, with various rumors slithering around like venomous snakes. 0

"I've said it long ago, this Guo Lingxi has an unknown background; marrying into the Du Family must have ulterior motives!" 0

"Exactly! Look at all the trouble she has caused since she arrived; she's nothing but a jinx!" 0

These words pierced my heart like needles, and I realized how unwelcome I was in the Du Family. I thought that as long as I treated people sincerely, I would receive sincerity in return, but I forgot that human hearts are the hardest to read. 0

"Don't listen to their nonsense; I know what kind of person you are," Du Ming said firmly as he held my hand. "I will get to the bottom of this and clear your name." 0

I knew he was trying to comfort me, but it only made me more anxious. Although Du Ming appeared cold and unfeeling on the surface, I knew he valued loyalty and friendship deeply. If this matter wasn't handled well, it would likely become a thorn in his heart. 0

Sure enough, it wasn't long before Mr. Du called a family meeting. During the meeting, Mr. Du's face was ashen as he slammed a document onto the table and said furiously, "Look at what you've done! Because of your mistakes, we have lost so much business and offended so many partners!" 0

"Dad, we can't blame everything on Du Ming and Lingxi; they were thinking of the family's interests too," Du Ming's uncle, Du Minghua, tried to defend us. 0

"Shut up!" Mr. Du shouted. "If it weren't for their stubbornness, how could such a big mess have happened?" 0

At that moment, the quiet girl suddenly spoke up. Her eyes were red and she looked pitiful: "Uncle Du, please don't be angry; it's all my fault for not stopping Brother Ming and Sister Lingxi..." 0

As she spoke, tears fell from her eyes. I noticed her gaze flicker towards me with a hint of triumph. A bad premonition surged in my heart. 0

"Green Tea, this matter has nothing to do with you; don't blame yourself," Du Ming said coldly. 0

"But..." Green Tea wanted to say more but was interrupted by Mr. Du. 0

"Alright, this matter ends here!" Mr. Du said wearily. "Du Ming, from today on, you are no longer responsible for family affairs; stay home and reflect!" 0

"Dad!" Du Ming stood up abruptly. "This matter is my..." 0

"This is my decision; you don't need to say more!" Mr. Du stated unequivocally. 0

I saw Du Ming's fists clench tightly; I knew he must be feeling very upset inside. He wanted to protect me and shield me from harm but was harshly rejected by his own father. 0

"Du Ming, I'm fine; you don't need to worry about me." I gently squeezed his hand under the table and gave him an encouraging look. 0

Du Ming looked deeply into my eyes and ultimately said nothing; he just nodded silently. 0

I knew this was just the calm before the storm; greater challenges awaited us. 0
