"Hello? Who are you?" Du Ming's voice carried a hint of barely detectable tension, clearly aware that this call was unusual.
The voice on the other end crackled with static, making it hard to hear, but I could faintly make out the words "Just wait and see" before the line went dead.
Before we could process what had just happened, a tremor shook the ground beneath us. The crystal chandelier swayed violently, producing a deafening clatter as exquisite dishes and wine glasses shattered on the floor. Guests panicked and scattered in all directions.
"What is happening?!" I steadied myself and grabbed Mr. Du, who was nearly knocked over.
Du Ming's face turned pale as he looked up at the ceiling with a fierce gaze. "Someone is attacking the Du Family!"
As soon as he spoke, a powerful force crashed down, creating a massive hole in the banquet hall's roof! Debris and dust fell like rain, screams and shouts filled the air, and chaos engulfed the entire Du Family.
I immediately released my spiritual energy, forming a protective barrier above the crowd to deflect the falling stones while shouting loudly, "Everyone stay calm! Remain composed!"
Amidst the chaos, I sensed a familiar yet strange aura—an icy, dark power reminiscent of the forces behind the green tea incident but even more potent and malevolent.
"Ming, be careful!" I pushed Du Ming aside just as a shadow descended from above, rushing toward him with lethal intent. With a thought, I instantly moved in front of Du Ming and summoned my Silver Needle, sending out beams of golden light to engage in battle with the shadow.
"Lingxi!" Du Ming called out worriedly but joined me in the fight.
At that moment, an elderly yet familiar voice echoed in my ear: "Be careful! This power is formidable!"
I turned to see the mysterious old man had appeared at the entrance of the banquet hall, leaning on his cane with a grave expression.
"Senior, what do you know?" I asked anxiously while fending off attacks from the shadow.
"This power conceals an unimaginably strong presence," he said solemnly. "They may be connected to those from before, but they are not something we can easily confront. You must be extremely cautious!"
Before he could finish speaking, the shadow let out a piercing scream and then dissipated into a cloud of black mist.
Alarm bells rang in my mind; before I could think further, I heard someone in the crowd exclaim, "Bai Wei is missing!"
My heart sank—Bai Wei? When did she disappear?!
Du Ming also realized the gravity of the situation; he grasped my hand tightly and said seriously, "We need to split up and search for her!"
The banquet hall was in disarray; guests were still in shock. I forced myself to suppress my anxiety as I searched each room for any trace of Bai Wei. Frustratingly, despite exhausting all methods and even using spiritual energy, I found no clues about her whereabouts.
"Lingxi, there's news!" Du Ming's voice called out from afar, tinged with seriousness. I rushed over to him and saw he was holding a piece of black fabric with a furrowed brow.
"This was found in the back garden; it should be a fragment from Bai Wei's clothing," Du Ming said gravely. "I've already sent people to investigate; there has been suspicious activity nearby that seems particularly interested in your medical skills."
My heart sank—had Bai Wei been taken by them? But why would they want her?
"What do they want?" I clutched Du Ming's hand tightly, my voice trembling as I asked.
Du Ming gently patted my hand and comforted me, "Don't worry, I've already sent someone to investigate. We will definitely find Bai Wei."
"No, I want to find her myself!" I said firmly. "I have a feeling that Bai Wei's disappearance is related to my medical skills."
Du Ming seemed to want to say something else, but I had already turned and run towards the back garden. Suddenly, some vague images flashed through my mind, seemingly related to ancient medical practices, all pointing towards the forbidden area in the back mountains.
I ran wildly and finally reached the entrance of the forbidden area. It was shrouded in mist year-round, rumored to hide many unknown dangers, and even the Du Family members dared not approach easily.
But I could not care less; the safety of Bai Wei and my intuition drove me into this forbidden area.
I took a deep breath, held it in, and plunged into the mist.
In the mist, I vaguely saw an ancient altar covered with strange runes that emitted waves of unsettling power.
At that moment, the surrounding mist suddenly swirled, and several figures in black descended from above, surrounding me completely.
"You finally arrived, Guo Lingxi," the leader of the black-clad figures said with a chilling laugh. "We've been waiting for you for a long time."
A chill ran down my spine; it seemed my intuition was correct—Bai Wei had indeed been captured by them!
"Let her go!" I shouted angrily. "What do you want?"
"We only want what you have in your hands," the figure in black replied coldly. "If you hand it over obediently, we might consider letting her go."
"What is it?" I wondered internally; what could I possibly have that they wanted?
The figure did not answer but waved his hand, and the others immediately launched an attack on me.
I summoned Silver Needle and engaged in combat with them.
Just then, Du Ming arrived as well. He joined the fray and fought alongside me, quickly driving back those in black.
"Lingxi, are you okay?" Du Ming asked with concern.
"I'm fine, but Bai Wei..." I said anxiously.
"I will find her," Du Ming said firmly.
We stood side by side in front of the altar, watching as those in black disappeared into the mist, both filled with unease.
"Who are they? Why did they take Bai Wei?" I murmured to myself.
Du Ming shook his head and said solemnly, "I don't know either, but I do know that they must be connected to that unknown force, and what they want is somewhere within this forbidden area."
Looking at the ancient altar before me, a bold guess suddenly formed in my mind: could it be that what they wanted was the formula for the legendary Revival Pill that could bring someone back to life?
And this formula is in my hands?
