I woke up from a coma, my consciousness gradually returning. Before I could fully awaken, a bone-chilling cold invaded my entire body. I found myself trapped in a damp, cold cave, surrounded by icy stone walls, with only a faint light filtering in from the entrance. My hands and feet were bound by rough ropes, rendering me immobile.
“Du Ming…” I weakly called his name, my voice echoing in the empty cave but receiving no response. My heart felt as if it were gripped tightly by an invisible hand, fear and despair surging over me like a tide.
At that moment, I heard the sounds of a struggle coming from outside the cave. I endured the pain coursing through my body and tried to move toward the entrance to see what was happening outside. Through the dim light, I saw Du Ming fiercely battling a group of men in black.
His white clothes were stained with blood, yet he remained handsome and upright, wielding his sword to unleash sharp waves of sword energy that forced the black-clad men to retreat. However, I could tell he was at his limit. The number of black-clad men was overwhelming, each one formidable; Du Ming was outnumbered, his injuries mounting as blood soaked through his white garments, a shocking sight.
I fought against the excruciating pain in my body, wanting to warn him, but no sound came out. My heart felt as if it were being torn apart, tears blurring my vision. Just then, a chilling voice came from behind the black-clad men: “Du Ming, you really overestimate yourself; do you think you can contend with me?”
As soon as he finished speaking, a middle-aged man in a black robe stepped forward slowly. He exuded a powerful pressure that seemed to freeze the air around him.
“Who are you?” Du Ming asked, clutching his chest with blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Yet he stood tall, glaring fiercely at the newcomer.
“Who am I? You are not worthy to know!” The man in black sneered coldly. “But I can tell you this: your good days are over! Sooner or later, I will trample you underfoot and let you watch as I take control of the entire Cultivation World!”
“Just you?” Du Ming gritted his teeth against the pain and scoffed. “Delusional!”
“Stubborn fool!” A flicker of anger flashed in the eyes of the man in black. He suddenly waved his hand, and the black-clad men launched another attack on Du Ming.
Despite being gravely injured, Du Ming did not give up resisting. He swung his sword again and again to fend off their attacks.
I watched helplessly as his sword was knocked away, saw him struck by the force of their blows, and witnessed him spitting blood and swaying unsteadily.
My heart felt as if it were being crushed by an invisible hand; the pain was unbearable. How I wished I could rush out to help him, but I was powerless. All I could do was watch him get hurt while doing nothing.
“Stop! If you have any grievances, come at me!” I shouted hoarsely, my voice strained but tinged with desperate hope. The man in black glanced at me disdainfully and smirked cruelly. “Who do you think you are? You are merely my pawn—a pawn that can threaten Du Ming.”
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. “What do you want? As long as you spare Du Ming, I will agree to anything.”
The man in black burst into laughter filled with mockery. “Who do you think you are? What right do you have to negotiate with me?”
He approached me step by step; each step felt like it was crushing my heart underfoot, filling me with suffocating fear. He looked down at me from above, his eyes filled with mockery and cruelty. “I’ve changed my mind; I want you to watch how Du Ming is tortured to death by me!”
As soon as he finished speaking, I saw Du Ming's body tremble violently. He suddenly raised his head; his eyes were bloodshot like an enraged beast.
“No! How dare you!” Du Ming roared angrily; his aura shifted dramatically as a powerful force erupted from within him.
“Boom!”
With a loud crash, the chains binding Du Ming shattered one by one; he shot forward like an arrow released from its bow toward the man in black.
“You underestimate yourself!” The man in black snorted coldly and waved his hand dismissively.
However, this time his attack missed.
Du Ming's speed was astonishing; he seemed like a flash of lightning as he appeared before the man in black in an instant, holding a black dagger that had appeared in his hand without notice and thrusting it fiercely toward the man's heart.
"Thud!"
The sound of the dagger piercing flesh was clear and audible. The man in the black robe looked down at the dagger in his chest in disbelief, his eyes filled with shock and incredulity.
"You..."
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately nothing came out as his body slowly fell to the ground.
Before I could even feel joy for Du Ming's victory, I saw him suddenly spit out a mouthful of blood. His body swayed a few times before collapsing to the ground as well.
"Du Ming!" I exclaimed, struggling to move towards him, only to find myself bound in place by an invisible force, unable to move.
I watched helplessly as Du Ming struggled to get up from the ground. He staggered towards me, leaving a shocking trail of blood with each step.
"Lingxi... don't be afraid... I'm... I'm here to save you..."
His voice was weak but filled with unwavering determination.
Tears streamed down my face as I desperately tried to break free from my restraints, wanting to reach him, but I felt powerless.
Just as Du Ming was about to reach me, I suddenly felt a dizzying sensation, and the scene before me began to blur.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar place.
It was empty here, with only cold walls and a biting chill surrounding me.
I desperately tried to remember what had happened earlier, but my mind was blank; I couldn't recall anything.
I felt like a message in a bottle abandoned on a deserted island—lonely and helpless, not knowing where I was or where I should go next.
