“Lingxi!” Du Ming roared, the blood vessels in his eyes nearly bursting. His sword swung like an enraged lion, filled with destructive fury, each strike bringing a storm of blood and carnage. I struggled against the intense pain in my chest, trying to see the scene before me, but all I could make out was a blur of red. 0

“Du Ming, don’t worry about me, just go!” I shouted with all my strength, but my voice was weak, like the flutter of a mosquito's wings. The black dagger in my chest continued to emit a chilling aura, and I felt my life force slowly ebbing away. 0

“Impossible!” Du Ming's voice seemed to come from hell, filled with chilling determination. “I promised to bring you home!” The light from his sword became even more fierce as he forced back the enemies, but they quickly surged forward again, surrounding him completely. 0

Despair washed over me as I watched everything unfold, knowing that continuing like this would be futile. I braced myself and felt along the edge of the trap, hoping to find a glimmer of hope for escape. Suddenly, my fingers brushed against a cold metal device, and I remembered what Bai Wei had told me earlier. 0

“Lingxi, have you forgotten the mechanisms your master taught you? In critical moments, they might save your life!” Bai Wei's voice echoed in my ears. Taking a deep breath and enduring the pain, I activated the mechanism in the trap using the method I recalled. 0

With a thunderous roar, the ground around the trap began to collapse, countless stones tumbling down and separating me and Du Ming from the enemies. I knew this was my last chance! 0

The dust from the explosion obscured my vision, but I could sense Du Ming right beside me; his breath was rapid and chaotic, clearly injured as well. “Lingxi, are you okay?” His anxious voice trembled slightly. I tried to respond but couldn’t make a sound. 0

My consciousness began to fade; in a daze, I seemed to see Bai Wei imprisoned in a dark and damp dungeon. Her white clothes were stained with blood, yet she stood tall with unwavering resolve against her captors. “You will not get any information from me!” Bai Wei's voice was clear and strong, filled with fearless determination. 0

“Hmph, you’re asking for it!” A rough voice responded, followed by the sound of a whip cracking and Bai Wei's muffled cries of pain. I wanted to rush over to save her but found myself unable to move, helplessly watching her endure inhuman torment. 0

“Do you really think I would be foolish enough to tell you everything?” A cold smile played on Bai Wei's lips as her eyes filled with disdain. “I anticipated this day long ago and prepared thoroughly. Everything you are doing now is just a waste of time!” 0

The scene shifted again; I saw Du Ming’s subordinates—battle-hardened elites—now lying in pools of blood, unable to rise. Du Ming’s wounds multiplied as blood soaked his clothes; yet he fought like a wounded beast, wildly swinging his sword with eyes full of grief and despair. 0

“Young Master Ming, we’ll cover for you! You must go!” One bloodied subordinate used his last ounce of strength to block an enemy attack before collapsing helplessly. 0

“No! If we leave, we leave together!” Du Ming shouted with red eyes, his voice filled with sorrow and defiance. He knew it would be difficult for them to leave alive today. My heart sank—Bai Wei! She had also been captured! I focused hard on trying to see her surroundings but found my consciousness separated from hers by thick fog; I could only vaguely sense her emotions and glimpses of her situation. This feeling of helplessness made me even more anxious; I wished desperately to rush to her side and protect her. 0

Du Ming continued fighting beside me; I could feel his strength waning little by little as his breathing grew more labored and his wounds multiplied. No! I couldn’t just sit here and wait! I had to do something! 0

Enduring the pain in my body, I turned my gaze toward the trap’s surroundings. This was an ancient formation; I had seen it described in ancient texts. If I could find its key nodes, I could use its power against our enemies. 0

My eyes scanned quickly around until finally spotting a slightly darker stone tile in an inconspicuous corner. That’s it! Taking a deep breath, I summoned what little spiritual energy remained within me and infused it into that stone tile. 0

With a loud bang, thick smoke erupted around the trap as shockwaves from the explosion pushed back nearby enemies. Du Ming was momentarily startled by this sudden change but quickly reacted; seizing the opportunity, he charged towards me with his sword raised. 0

“Lingxi!” He pulled me into his embrace, relief and concern flooding his voice. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” 0

I shook my head as tears streamed down my face. “I’m fine... but Bai Wei...” 0

Du Ming’s expression turned grave instantly as he looked down at me with determined resolve. “Don’t worry; I will definitely rescue her!” 0
