The dark sky roared with thick layers of black clouds, smothering the heavens. The unique oppressive heat before the storm stirred feelings of irritation, and the heavy air felt like a weighty shackle on his chest, making even breathing difficult. As the rolling clouds swallowed the last glimmer of light, a bolt of lightning split the sky, as if to cleave the world in two with unstoppable force. The blinding flash of lightning flickered briefly, bringing a moment of illumination before mercilessly plunging everything back into eternal darkness.
The night rain arrived.
The torrential downpour cascaded down the glass window like a string of pearls that had slipped off its line. Gu Yan gazed outside through the large floor-to-ceiling window, but the rain curtain obscured his view, leaving him only to guess the intensity of the rain by its sound.
Rain by the seaside was always sudden; the weather could change at any moment, unpredictable and capricious. This was nothing new for Gu Yan, but tonight's rain, mixed with flashes of lightning, came on strong and was more terrifying than any night rain he had ever experienced.
Siren, who had been brought back in the evening, was carefully placed in the bathtub. Even though she had been treated, there were still no signs of her waking up.
Gu Yan felt a mix of secret anticipation and trepidation, yet ultimately found himself disappointed.
The unchanging curtain of rain was not particularly captivating. With Siren occupying the bathtub, he quickly took a shower using the bathroom's showerhead, donned a silk bathrobe, and stepped barefoot out of the bathroom.
Bored and restless, Gu Yan went to bed early, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. A sharp gaze felt as if it could burn his skin like a laser, creating an uncomfortable sensation that kept him from falling asleep.
He forced his eyes shut; darkness enveloped him. Gradually, an ethereal voice began to resonate in his ears—perhaps someone was singing or uttering melodious sighs—or maybe it was just the sound of rain outside. He vaguely sensed he heard something but continuously denied that thought.
Gu Yan realized his limbs were immobile, as if he were experiencing sleep paralysis—his mind clear yet devoid of control over his body. However, soon his thoughts began to spiral into chaos, unable to grasp that fleeting sensation.
In that moment between reality and dreams, his mind made one final judgment—it was a song, a celestial melody.
But before he could ponder further, this conclusion was drowned in a sea of confusion and lost amidst vast thoughts.
Ultimately, Gu Yan fell into a deep sleep.
Complete darkness enveloped him.
In the room, only the dim light from the bedside lamp illuminated Gu Yan's face, adding an air of sanctity and tranquility to his features.
In the darkness, sounds of dripping water echoed from the bathroom as if something had emerged from the water without disturbing Gu Yan's typically light sleep. His tightly shut eyes indicated he remained in deep slumber.
A shadow appeared by the bed—a figure only partially visible—like that of a young man. The figure leaned against the edge of the bed while beneath it lay a vibrant blue fish tail marked by grotesque scars; its fin trailed a wet streak from the bathroom to the edge of the large soft bed.
Siren gracefully climbed onto the plush bed, some water marks smudging onto the gray blanket deepening its hue. Her entire body pressed against Gu Yan's; that suffocating sensation instinctively made him turn away unconsciously.
Siren seemed displeased with Gu Yan's movement and leaned closer to her beautiful face. The warm breath she exhaled carried an oceanic scent that wafted over Gu Yan's face.
A gentle touch glided over Gu Yan's lips—an intimate caress from another person's tongue.
