"Wanwan, I'm sorry for making you feel wronged." Chi Jinze looked at Yu Wan, his tone sincere as guilt filled his eyes. He reached out and gently wiped away the tears at the corner of Yu Wan's eyes, his movements tender and affectionate.
Yu Wan turned her face away, avoiding Chi Jinze's hand, her tone indifferent: "You don't need to explain, I believe you."
Seeing Yu Wan's distant attitude felt like a needle piercing his heart, causing a dull pain. He knew that Sophia's words had left a shadow in her heart, and it would take more time and effort to completely dispel her doubts.
"Wanwan, I know your heart is in turmoil right now and you are reluctant to trust me, but I hope you can give me a chance to prove my sincerity to you," Chi Jinze said as he took out an exquisite small box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal an ancient silver ring inside.
"This ring was left to me by my grandmother. I have treasured it all this time, wanting to give it to the girl I love most," Chi Jinze said, picking up the ring and gazing affectionately at Yu Wan. "Wanwan, will you marry me? I will love you and protect you for the rest of my life."
Yu Wan looked at the ring in Chi Jinze's hand, surprise flashing in her eyes. She hadn't expected him to propose at this moment.
"Jinze, I..." Yu Wan looked at Chi Jinze, hesitating to speak.
Chi Jinze held Yu Wan's hand and placed the ring on her ring finger, speaking firmly: "Wanwan, I know you haven't fully accepted me yet, but I believe that one day you will understand my feelings."
As he spoke, Chi Jinze embraced Yu Wan tightly, as if trying to merge her into himself. Yu Wan leaned against Chi Jinze's chest, listening to his strong heartbeat and feeling the warmth of his embrace; her once cold heart gradually began to melt.
"Wanwan, trust me. Sophia's words are all lies; my feelings for you are genuine. I never intended to use you or be with you because of your family background." Chi Jinze gently stroked Yu Wan's hair, his tone soft yet resolute.
"I know you still have concerns. I won't force you to believe me right away, but I will prove through my actions that my love for you is sincere and unique." Chi Jinze released Yu Wan and looked at her with burning intensity, his eyes filled with sincerity and affection.
He walked to the bedside and pulled out a wooden box from under the pillow. Opening it revealed some photos of Yu Wan and letters she had once written to him.
"These are all treasures I cherish, each one carrying beautiful memories between us." Chi Jinze picked up a photo, which showed Yu Wan participating in a speech competition during college. She stood confidently on stage, radiant and captivating.
"Do you remember this photo? This was your first speech competition. You were so nervous that your palms were sweaty. I was cheering for you from the audience, and that's how you finally won the championship." Chi Jinze looked at the photo, a gentle smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
He picked up another photo, showing Yu Wan and him walking together in the park, side by side, both wearing happy smiles.
"This photo was taken on our first date. We talked for a long time, discussing everything from poetry to life ideals. I realized that you are not only beautiful but also very thoughtful. Being with you brings me unprecedented joy." Chi Jinze gazed at the photo, his eyes filled with affection.
Chi Jinze placed the photos back into the box one by one and then handed the box to Yu Wan, speaking softly, "Wanwan, these are all proofs of my love. Will you believe me?"
Yu Wan took the box, opened it, and looked at the familiar items inside. Tears welled up in her eyes once again. She finally understood that Chi Jinze's love for her was not insincere but genuine.
Yu Wan trembled as she gently touched the photo, where they embraced under the sunset, blissful like a fairy tale. Chi Jinze looked at her tenderly, his gaze filled with love and anticipation. Just then, the door was suddenly pushed open, and Sophia entered in a striking red dress, radiant yet with a hint of anger. She walked straight to the table and picked up a ring, mocking, "Oh, isn't this from back then..."
"Sophia!" Lu Ningyan interrupted her sharply, his tone carrying an obvious warning. His brows furrowed tightly as he stared fiercely at Sophia, as if he could see through her thoughts. Sophia was interrupted and shot Lu Ningyan an annoyed glare but ultimately chose not to continue speaking. She merely huffed and tossed the ring back onto the table before sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed, looking like she was enjoying a show.
"What’s wrong with this ring?" Yu Wan's heart was once again stirred by Sophia's words. She anxiously looked at Chi Jinze, hoping he would provide an explanation.
Chi Jinze held Yu Wan's hand firmly, his gaze resolute: "Wanwan, don't listen to her nonsense. This ring..."
"This ring was originally meant to be a token of love from Jinze to me!" Sophia suddenly raised her voice, interrupting Chi Jinze. She stood up and walked in front of Yu Wan. "So, how come it's on your hand now? Are you planning to accept something that someone else discarded?" As she spoke, she deliberately leaned closer to Yu Wan, her tone filled with provocation.
Yu Wan's face instantly turned pale. She looked at Chi Jinze in disbelief, her lips trembling, but she couldn't utter a single word.
