Liu Shuhan sighed at the mess on the table.
Not long ago, Shen Wenqin had taken Cheng Boming away and also called Cheng Qiuyi out, saying they had important matters to discuss. Cheng Qiuyi had never mentioned her family situation in front of Liu Shuhan, and this was the first time Liu Shuhan realized that her relationship with her family had reached such a point. Every family has its own difficulties; since Cheng Qiuyi didn't bring it up, Liu Shuhan felt it was inappropriate to ask further.
Cheng Qiuyi returned quickly. When she entered the house, Liu Shuhan was washing the dishes. It was unclear what she and Shen Wenqin had talked about, but once home, Cheng Qiuyi looked exhausted and wrapped her arms around Liu Shuhan's waist from behind, refusing to let go.
Having known Cheng Qiuyi for over a decade, this was the first time Liu Shuhan saw her so unsettled. There was nothing Liu Shuhan could do but allow her to hold on, offering her a bit of comfort.
"Stop washing," Cheng Qiuyi said after a long while, resting her chin on Liu Shuhan's shoulder. "Just throw these dishes away; let's buy new ones tomorrow. I feel disgusted just looking at things she used."
Liu Shuhan paused her movements and after a moment replied, "Alright."
Cheng Qiuyi took Liu Shuhan's soapy hands under the faucet and scrubbed them carefully, applying hand soap several times and ensuring every nook and cranny was clean, as if trying to wash away any trace of the unpleasantness.
Warm water flowed over their fingertips when Cheng Qiuyi suddenly stopped. She turned Liu Shuhan's face towards her with her wet hands and kissed her lips while still embracing her.
Unlike any previous kiss, today Cheng Qiuyi was unexpectedly reckless, invading Liu Shuhan's mouth with urgency, their teeth clashing against each other.
Liu Shuhan leaned into Cheng Qiuyi's embrace, wincing in pain as she tried to tilt her head back to respond to Cheng Qiuyi's aggressive entanglement. She wrapped her arms around Cheng Qiuyi's neck gently, trying to soothe her in hopes of calming her down.
Cheng Qiuyi only regained some clarity after tasting the metallic tang of blood in Liu Shuhan's mouth. Gasping for breath, she released Liu Shuhan's lips and tightened her grip around Liu Shuhan’s waist, pulling her closer.
Liu Shuhan was already shorter than Cheng Qiuyi; from behind, they looked like one person with how tightly Cheng Qiuyi held onto her. Liu Shuhan relaxed her body, leaning all her weight against Cheng Qiuyi and touched the arm wrapped around her waist. "Qiu Yi, I'm here."
"Shu Han, I'm a bit scared," Cheng Qiuyi whispered as she kissed Liu Shuhan's ear. "Why has no one ever believed me?"
"I believe you," Liu Shuhan replied as she lifted her head to kiss Cheng Qiuyi's thin chin. "Qiu Yi, I believe you."
Cheng Qiuyi laughed bitterly. "You're lying."
"Shu Han, if you really believed me, you wouldn't have been prepared to leave at any moment since we first got together."
Liu Shuhan lowered her eyes, her fingertips unconsciously stroking Cheng Qiuyi's hand. "Qiu Yi, I've always wanted to ask, why do you like me? There’s no love without reason in this world; only a fool believes in love at first sight."
"Why?" Cheng Qiuyi struggled to recall. Her youth was filled with turmoil, and she had experienced many chaotic events since then. Remembering the past brought her more pain than joy. Only when she thought of Liu Shuhan did a hint of sweetness mix with the bitterness. She didn’t want even that small joy to be tainted by pain, so she sealed away all her memories. Now, with Liu Shuhan suddenly bringing it up, Cheng Qiuyi needed a moment to think before she could remember those days.
Back then, the Cheng Family was threatened by enemies. Mother Cheng worried for Cheng Qiuyi's safety and secretly sent her to a neighboring city, pretending she was being fostered by a relative. That was how Cheng Qiuyi began her high school life. Her naturally aloof personality made her polite but lacking in warmth. At such a young age, the aggression from her martial arts training had yet to be tempered, and her teachers avoided her as much as possible. Yet, there was one fool who didn’t know better and became friends with her.
That fool was naturally Liu Shuhan, who transferred into Cheng Qiuyi's class. At that time, she only knew that Cheng Qiuyi was incredibly beautiful; having such a pretty friend seemed good enough, so she attached herself to Cheng Qiuyi.
At first, Cheng Qiuyi found this girl amusing—always cheerful and seemingly full of joy—but as time passed and they spent more time together, they gradually became friends.
As Cheng Qiuyi grew closer to Liu Shuhan, she began to show her smile more often and learned to temper her aggression. Her personality gradually normalized, at least on the surface.
Cheng Qiuyi couldn’t remember when she started liking Liu Shuhan. By the time she realized her feelings for Liu Shuhan, she had already begun to entertain some romantic thoughts about her.
Returning from her memories, Cheng Qiuyi reached up to touch Liu Shuhan's head and said, "It wasn't love at first sight; it was love that grew over time."
"I don’t remember when I started liking you, but I do remember when I realized I liked you."
"It was on your birthday that year. Your parents weren’t home, and we secretly got drunk at your house. Do you remember?"
Liu Shuhan certainly remembered; she recalled how the next day her mother found out about the drinking and whipped her with a broomstick on her backside, leaving marks that took days to fade. "You slipped away quickly that day; I almost got beaten to death by my mom."
"I wasn't drunk that day." Cheng Qiuyi had been training with her master since childhood; by twelve, she could drink with him, and by fourteen, he could no longer keep up with her drinking capacity. How could those few bottles of beer Liu Shuhan bought possibly get her drunk?
"I wasn’t drunk either, Shu Han; I kissed you."
"Shu Han, when I told you I kissed someone for the first time last time we talked, that was a lie. You see, I had already kissed you over a decade ago."
"Back then, not only did I want to kiss you; I also wanted..." Cheng Qiuyi paused before continuing, "Later on, I thought all of this was just my imagination. I tried to find some normal boys to help me turn my abnormal feelings back into something normal, but it didn’t work. Shu Han, I fell in love with you much earlier than you think."
"But Qiu Yi," Liu Shuhan murmured softly, "you ran away. You left without a sound—just the day before we were laughing and eating together; then the next day you vanished without a trace. I searched everywhere for you; I thought you were joking with me and would show up soon. But you didn’t."
"Qiu Yi, I love you, but I don't know anything about you—your family, your career, I know none of it. If one day you get tired of me and run away again, what should I do? Qiu Yi, what am I supposed to do?"
Liu Shuhan spoke as if she could foresee that day approaching. Her usually carefree personality was now cautiously adapting to Cheng Qiuyi's habits of love, while she anxiously worried about her leaving. "Qiu Yi, if you're going to leave, you might as well do it now while I can still pull away."
"I'm not leaving!" Cheng Qiuyi turned Liu Shuhan around and grasped her shoulders. "Shu Han, I came back this time to be with you. Even if you don't want me anymore, I'll cling to you. I'm not going anywhere."
"Those so-called family and career," Cheng Qiuyi said with a bitter smile, "I don't want to embarrass myself in front of you."
With a pleading look in her eyes, Cheng Qiuyi reflected in Liu Shuhan's dark pupils. After staring at Cheng Qiuyi for a moment, Liu Shuhan suddenly smiled, grabbed her collar, pulled her down, and took the initiative to seal those two red lips.
Liu Shuhan unbuttoned Cheng Qiuyi's shirt collar, her hand restlessly slipping inside, only to be caught by Cheng Qiuyi. "Shu Han, this is a lifelong matter. Have you thought it through?"
Liu Shuhan leaned close to her mouth and said, "I've thought it through long ago; the coward has always been you."
What followed was natural; both were experiencing love for the first time, causing a ruckus until midnight. It was only when Liu Shuhan begged repeatedly that Cheng Qiuyi finally let her go.
After enough teasing, Liu Shuhan, with a flushed face nestled in Cheng Qiuyi's arms, suddenly remembered that question. "Cheng Qiuyi, why are you so skilled at this?"
"I don't know; maybe it's a natural talent?" Cheng Qiuyi teased near Liu Shuhan's ear, her breath tickling and igniting a flutter in Liu Shuhan. Then Cheng Qiuyi added, "Shu Han, can I interpret that as… you're very satisfied with me?"
"You… pervert!" Liu Shuhan turned away from Cheng Qiuyi, lying on her side with her smooth shoulder blushing an enticing pink, prompting another round of muffled laughter from Cheng Qiuyi.
Feeling embarrassed by the laughter and sticky from the situation, Liu Shuhan decided to throw off the covers and get up to retrieve her pajamas from her room before heading to take a shower.
"Ah ah ah—" After opening her wardrobe and staring blankly for a few seconds, Liu Shuhan screamed as she ran back into Cheng Qiuyi's bedroom in panic. "Cheng Qiuyi, where are my clothes?"
"Aren't they all hanging nicely in the wardrobe?"
"No!" Liu Shuhan was nearly in tears. "Those aren't my clothes; I don't know whose they are… Cheng Qiuyi, my things are missing!"
Sitting up with the blanket slipping down to her waist, Cheng Qiuyi replied, "I threw away your old clothes."
"Threw it away?" Liu Shuhan's eyes widened in disbelief, as if she were about to devour Cheng Qiuyi. "What’s wrong with you? Why would you throw away my clothes?"
"You’re already mine, so why keep clothes given by someone else? Are you planning to rekindle old flames or something?"
Liu Shuhan couldn’t understand where Cheng Qiuyi's jealousy was coming from. It was such a trivial matter to get worked up over. "What about those shoe boxes in the shoe cabinet? Did you throw those away too?"
Cheng Qiuyi nodded.
Liu Shuhan, infuriated, picked up a pillow and threw it at Cheng Qiuyi. "Where did you throw them? Go find them for me! My treasures are in that box inside the shoe boxes. Cheng Qiuyi, if they’re gone, I won’t let this go!"
Cheng Qiuyi dodged the pillow. "Why would you put your treasures in shoe boxes? Are those things really that important?"
"They are! More important than my life!"
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Cheng Qiuyi hurriedly got dressed and said, "Alright, I’ll go find them for you. If I can’t find them, I won’t come to see you, okay?"
"No way!" Liu Shuhan huffed, glaring at her. "You’re already mine; dare not come see me and see what happens! I’m going with you!"
Cheng Qiuyi got dressed and left the bedroom first. Alone in the room, Liu Shuhan grew angrier as she thought about it and casually picked up a lace underwear that Cheng Qiuyi had left on the floor and stuffed it into her pocket.
Cheng Qiuyi could be so unreliable when she acted foolishly; it drove her crazy!
Thus, the two who had just been affectionate ended up running out in the middle of the night to rummage through the trash.
