"I’m leaving now. Make sure to have lunch on time. What do you want for dinner? I’ll bring something back after work."
From that day on, Liu Shuhan was pulled into a cuddle by Cheng Qiuyi for a while after getting up. Time was a bit tight, so she hurriedly made breakfast, took a couple of bites, and then grabbed her bag to head out. Just as she stepped outside, Cheng Qiuyi held her back and kissed her for a moment.
"Come back early," Cheng Qiuyi said, licking her lips and smiling like a cat that had just stolen a fish.
Even though Liu Shuhan had seen that smile countless times, she was still struck hard by it. Some people have an innate charm that never seems to be enough no matter how many times you see it. The scent of Cheng Qiuyi lingered in Liu Shuhan's mouth as she smacked her lips, feeling a bit restless and wishing to stay glued to Cheng Qiuyi forever. Ideally, they wouldn’t have to go anywhere and could just stay in their little nest together for a lifetime.
No wonder those ancient emperors would say "from then on, the king does not attend morning court" when they got a beauty; who could refuse someone as beautiful as Cheng Qiuyi?
"Well... I’m off then..." Liu Shuhan said reluctantly, not noticing the slightly different meaning behind Cheng Qiuyi's smile.
Liu Shuhan was indeed hiding something from Cheng Qiuyi.
She had taken up delivering courier packages again.
That manager was clearly being manipulated by Cheng Qiuyi; Liu Shuhan knew her own worth. That position was not something someone like her, who was barely literate, could handle. After some negotiation with the boss, she resigned and rode her little electric scooter through the streets delivering packages. It was tiring but offered some freedom and ease.
However, she hadn’t dared to tell Cheng Qiuyi about this and had kept it well hidden. There were quite a few packages yesterday, and she returned late, almost missing out on the trap. Luckily, she managed to cover it up.
Was it really okay to deceive Cheng Qiuyi like this? Liu Shuhan thought aimlessly as she walked into the warehouse and greeted several couriers who had already arrived.
"Hey!" Little Wang, who was sorting packages, suddenly brightened up.
"What’s with the surprise?" asked his coworker beside him.
"Xiao Liu, look! It’s that Miss Cheng again!" Little Wang raised the package in his hand. "I haven’t seen her packages in ages; I thought she moved away."
Liu Shuhan jolted. "Who are you talking about? Miss Cheng?"
"Yeah… right! Don’t you remember? She’s from your area, loves online shopping, always has ten or twenty packages every day." Little Wang was startled by Liu Shuhan's reaction and cautiously asked, "Xiao Liu, what’s wrong?"
"Who are you guys talking about? Which Miss Cheng?" A young man who had just arrived asked curiously, confused by the conversation.
"A regular customer, always loves shopping online!" Xiao Wang said excitedly, "You don't know, Xiao Liu said she's a great beauty."
The young man’s eyes lit up, "Really, Sister Liu? How beautiful is she? Tell me more."
"What does it have to do with you? Go do your work." Liu Shuhan impatiently shooed the young man away. Cheng Qiuyi, no matter how beautiful she was, was already taken; she would not allow anyone to covet or inquire about her.
After sending the young man off, Liu Shuhan frowned at the familiar address on the courier package.
Well, what was there to hide? Cheng Qiuyi was a thousand-year-old fox; her own skills were nothing compared to hers.
There weren't many deliveries today. By around four in the afternoon, Liu Shuhan had finished all of them and pressed the number for the only remaining package. She didn’t dial the number left by Cheng Qiuyi on the courier slip but instead called the one she had memorized long ago.
"Hello, who is this?" Cheng Qiuyi leaned against the balcony railing, looking at Liu Shuhan's small figure from several floors up, deliberately pretending to be serious.
"Beautiful lady, I have your courier." Liu Shuhan, wearing a company-issued cap, leaned over the electric vehicle's handlebars and said with a sigh, "Are you home? I can bring it up to you."
"Come on up and bring my wife with you," Cheng Qiuyi replied with a smile at the corner of her mouth. "You have two minutes to deliver it to me; otherwise, I’ll file a complaint."
Liu Shuhan felt a moment of daze as if time had returned to six months ago.
Back then, she secretly had a crush on Cheng Qiuyi; now their closeness was something she never dared to imagine.
Liu Shuhan did not want to go back to that time at all; she didn’t even want to recall those ten years without Cheng Qiuyi. If only time could be cut with scissors! She wished to erase those ten years apart from Cheng Qiuyi—if only Cheng Qiuyi had never experienced that pain and she hadn’t waited hopelessly day after day. It would have been wonderful if they had always been together and never separated.
This time, Liu Shuhan caught the elevator and walked home at a leisurely pace. Cheng Qiuyi was already waiting at the door with her watch in hand.
"Two minutes and three seconds late, courier girl; you're late," Cheng Qiuyi said as she walked over and took Liu Shuhan's hat off. "I’m going to complain about you."
Liu Shuhan made a wronged expression. "Beautiful lady, we’re just earning a few hard-earned bucks; please be lenient." She handed over the package along with a pen. "Could you sign for it before complaining?"
Cheng Qiuyi elegantly signed her surname and tucked the pen into Liu Shuhan's pocket. "If it's so hard, why are you still in this line of work?"
Liu Shuhan chuckled foolishly. "Love what you do and do what you love."
She climbed onto Cheng Qiuyi's shoulder, tiptoeing to whisper in her ear, "Courier, you have already signed for it, and your wife has delivered it too. Do you want it?"
Cheng Qiuyi pretended to frown, "I don't want something so dirty. Return it, return it." She spoke with disdain, yet her hands had already unconsciously wrapped around Liu Shuhan's waist.
"Once sent out, no returns or exchanges." Liu Shuhan leaned into Cheng Qiuyi's embrace, "You have to take it whether you want it or not."
"Cough cough." A few coughs came from nearby, followed by A-Zhi's hearty laughter, "I say, ladies, in public like this, take it easy."
He wasn't alone; he was holding his precious daughter in his arms while Yan Cailing followed beside him, carrying a large bag filled with baby supplies.
Liu Shuhan shyly pulled away from Cheng Qiuyi. Cheng Qiuyi took the large bag from Yan Cailing's hands and asked in surprise, "What brings you here?" A-Zhi had mentioned just a few days ago that Yan Cailing had been working too hard lately and that he would take her out for some fun. How did they find the time to visit Cheng Qiuyi?
"Isn't it just to see you before we leave? Seeing you both living happily puts me and A-Zhi at ease." Yan Cailing walked into the house, and at that moment, the baby started crying for her mother. Yan Cailing took the baby from A-Zhi's arms and gently rocked her to comfort her.
After two months apart, Song Luyao had grown quite a bit; her chubby little face was fair and tender, with two big eyes that were even cuter than those of babies in magazines.
Liu Shuhan loved children and followed Yan Cailing to play with the baby. A-Zhi and Cheng Qiuyi sat on the sofa chatting casually.
"Just so you know, Shu Han has work, and I also have matters to handle over in A Country. I don't have time to help you look after the baby," Cheng Qiuyi said without even asking about A-Zhi and his wife's intentions for coming over.
"Come on now, miss. You're the baby's godmother! Are you really okay with leaving the baby with someone else?"
