Qi Feng was preparing to return home, and Lin Xue felt a deep sense of reluctance. She knew that after this separation, it might be a long time before they could see each other again. Qi Feng began packing his luggage quickly, as if he wanted to end this journey that made her so reluctant as soon as possible. Lin Xue also started to pack, but her movements were slow. She carefully organized all of Qi Feng's belongings, trying to preserve his presence for a little longer.
Just as Qi Feng finished organizing an old leather suitcase and was about to put it into another larger suitcase, Lin Xue discovered a thick Tibetan art book inside. She remembered that Qi Feng had once said this book was given to him by a Tibetan elder, containing records of ancient Tibetan murals and folk stories. Qi Feng often flipped through it during his leisure time.
Lin Xue gently opened the art book and carefully browsed through each painting. Each piece was a heartfelt collection by Qi Feng, reflecting his love for the land and respect for its culture. When she turned to the last page, she found a yellowed photograph tucked inside. The photo showed a young woman in traditional Tibetan clothing, smiling brightly, and she looked very familiar. A wave of recognition suddenly surged in Lin Xue's heart.
"Who is this in the photo?" Lin Xue asked softly as she held up the picture.
Qi Feng looked up and saw the photograph in Lin Xue's hand. His expression immediately darkened, and after a moment of silence, he quietly replied, "It's my mother."
"Your mother?" Lin Xue looked at Qi Feng in surprise. She didn't understand why he suddenly mentioned his mother, and the woman in the photo really did look familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before.
Qi Feng did not explain; he simply continued packing silently, a faint sadness on his face. Seeing him like this made Lin Xue even more curious. She desperately wanted to know who the woman in the photo was and what story lay between her and Qi Feng.
Lin Xue took the photograph to find the Tibetan grandmother, who was sitting in the yard enjoying the sun. When she saw the photo in Lin Xue's hand, her eyes widened in astonishment, filled with disbelief.
"This... this is my daughter! How could you..." The grandmother's voice trembled slightly as she stood up excitedly and grasped Lin Xue's hand with longing in her eyes.
Lin Xue was startled by the grandmother's reaction. She didn't know what special significance the photograph held, but she could feel the grandmother's excitement. She cautiously asked, "Grandmother, do you know her?"
The grandmother held Lin Xue's hand tightly and said excitedly, "Of course I know her! She is my beloved daughter. She loved painting since she was little and once painted many pictures about this land with a foreign friend. That friend is your lover; his mother... her name is..."
The old lady paused suddenly, her gaze dimming as she seemed to fall into deep thought. Lin Xue gently asked, "What's wrong, Grandma? Do you know who his mother is?"
The old lady took a deep breath, her eyes filled with sadness. She said, "Her name was Ellie. I remember she once said she would bring her child to see me, but she never returned. She disappeared..."
Lin Xue immediately understood that the mother Qi Feng had been searching for was likely the old lady's daughter. Seeing the sorrow on the old lady's face filled her heart with sympathy. She gently held the old lady's hand and said softly, "Grandma, please don't be sad. I will help you find her."
The old lady looked at Lin Xue gratefully and nodded slightly. She said, "Thank you, dear. Thank you for caring about me and for helping me. This child lost his mother when he was young, and he has been searching for her. If he can find Ellie, he will find his roots and his identity..."
