The company is facing bankruptcy, and I feel powerless, forced to continue my studies. I lower my head to look at the pages, my fingertips lightly brushing against the paper; the cold sensation reminds me of the world's cruelty. Those who once flattered and surrounded me now keep their distance.
"What else can I do?" I ask myself, my mind a chaotic mess, unable to absorb the words on the page. I take a deep breath, gripping my pen tightly, trying to focus. The pen tip glides lightly across the paper, but the lines are broken and disjointed, just like my scattered thoughts.
Closing my eyes, I strive to recall the warmth of family dinners, my mother's smile, and my father's weary yet hopeful gaze. They have done so much for me; I cannot let them down!
Opening my eyes, I turn the page slowly but resolutely. "I must hold on," I tell myself. No matter how difficult it gets, I cannot give up!
I continue writing notes, forcing myself to concentrate on my studies despite the turmoil within. Just as I struggle to immerse myself in learning, a familiar sound of footsteps interrupts my thoughts.
I looked up and saw Zhao Ke strolling over leisurely, wearing his usual smile. He leaned against the bookshelf, lazily watching me.
"Still reading?" he asked casually, his tone laced with a hint of disdain.
"I have a paper to write," I forced a smile, my face full of eagerness to please.
After all, he was the only one who hadn’t left me immediately after learning about my family’s troubles. But now, it seemed his patience with me was also gradually wearing thin.
"You've been working hard for so long, but your grades still can't compare to Xu Wei's, right?" he said nonchalantly, his words cutting into my heart like a cold blade.

A wave of bitterness washed over me as I lowered my head, hiding the gloom in my eyes.
"She has better conditions; I can't compete," I murmured, my voice barely audible.
He shrugged, his eyes filled with impatience. "Don't push yourself too hard. With that time, you might as well get a part-time job to earn some money and dress yourself up a bit. Just look at you now; you don't have the slightest semblance of a lady!"
With that remark, he turned and walked away. I stared at his retreating figure, feeling empty inside.
Before our family went bankrupt, although my parents were always frugal, they never skimped on me. Expensive jewelry, bags, clothes, and all the various celebrity figurines I liked filled our thirty-square-meter room.
After the incident at home, I sold everything I could, but it barely made a dent in our problems. While I had no expectations that Lin Ke would help me out, being compared to Xu Wei by him was truly hurtful.
I watched him walk away, feeling hollow inside. I lifted my head and forced myself not to let the tears fall.
