"She sent her son to say that she wants to take Xiu Mei back," Sun Qiuhua said.
"Hmph, she wishes!" Father Li snorted coldly.
"I thought the same, so I didn't agree," Sun Qiuhua echoed.
"That's good," Father Li sighed in relief.
"But..." Sun Qiuhua hesitated again.
"But what?" Father Li became tense again.
"But she said she would come again tomorrow," Sun Qiuhua said worriedly.
"What?" Father Li was shocked.
"Head of the family, what should we do?" Sun Qiuhua said in a panic.
"Why does she think she can take Xiu Mei back?" Father Li said angrily.
"She claims Xiu Mei is her daughter," Sun Qiuhua replied.
"She doesn't deserve to be Xiu Mei's mother," Father Li shouted furiously.
"What should we do now, head of the family?" Sun Qiuhua asked anxiously.
"Sigh." Father Li let out a deep breath.
"Head of the family, say something," Sun Qiuhua urged.
"Let Xiu Mei know her own background," Father Li finally said after a long hesitation.
"But..." Sun Qiuhua still worried.
"This matter can't be hidden forever," Father Li stated.
"I know, it's just..." Sun Qiuhua trailed off.
"Just what?" Father Li asked.
"I'm just afraid Xiu Mei will resent us," Sun Qiuhua said with concern.
"There's nothing we can do about that," Father Li said helplessly.
"Sigh." Sun Qiuhua sighed again.
"Let's talk about it tomorrow," Father Li suggested.
"That's all we can do," Sun Qiuhua agreed.
"I'll go make dinner," Father Li said.
"Mm." Sun Qiuhua responded.
Father Li finished speaking and walked towards the kitchen.
Sun Qiuhua watched Father Li's back, feeling a mix of emotions.
She really didn't want Li Xiumei to leave her, but she also didn't want Li Xiumei to resent her.
Sun Qiuhua struggled with her thoughts for a moment before walking into the house.
She planned to tell Li Xiumei the truth later; she just didn't know how to say it yet.
At that moment, Li Xiumei walked out of the room.
"Mom, where did you and Dad go last night?" Li Xiumei asked.
"I... we went to look for you," Sun Qiuhua lied.
"Look for me?" Li Xiumei was taken aback.
"Yes," Sun Qiuhua nodded.
"Mom, I didn't mean to worry you," Li Xiumei said apologetically.
"Silly child, it's not your fault," Sun Qiuhua comforted her.
"But Dad couldn't find me last night..." Li Xiumei said sadly.
"Your father's not very good at searching; it's normal he couldn't find you," Sun Qiuhua reassured her.
"Mom, did I cause you trouble?" Li Xiumei asked with guilt.
"No, don't think like that," Sun Qiuhua consoled her.
"Mm." Li Xiumei nodded.
"Xiu Mei, if you're tired, you can go back and rest," Sun Qiuhua said.
"Mom, I'm not tired," Li Xiumei replied.
"Then just walk around a bit, but don't go too far," Sun Qiuhua instructed.
"I understand, Mom," Li Xiumei answered obediently.
Sun Qiuhua smiled and then walked away.
Father Li had been searching for Li Xiumei outside all night, feeling both anxious and angry.
He would rather wear out his feet than let Sun Qiuhua find Li Xiumei first.
He knew that Sun Qiuhua had sent someone this time to bring Li Xiumei back.
But how could he let Sun Qiuhua have her way?
Their family of three had been living so hard; how could Sun Qiuhua want to disrupt their peaceful life? He truly felt unwilling to accept it.
But what could he do? He couldn't compete with the Zhao Family. The more Father Li thought about it, the more frustrated he became. He would rather bear all the pain himself than let Li Xiumei know the truth. He knew that once Li Xiumei learned the truth, she would surely resent him and Sun Qiuhua. However, he had no ability to change any of this. He only hoped that they could continue living their current life without any changes.
The next morning, Zhang Xiaoxiao woke up. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Xiao Liang leaning by her bedside. She was startled and sat up abruptly. "Xiao Liang, what are you doing?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said, still in shock. "Sister-in-law, you're awake," Xiao Liang said excitedly. "When did you come?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked in confusion. "I just got here a little while ago," Xiao Liang replied. "What did you come for?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked. "To play with you," Xiao Liang answered. "Wait until I finish breakfast before we play," Zhang Xiaoxiao said. "Okay," Xiao Liang nodded.
After getting out of bed, Zhang Xiaoxiao went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Just as she finished cooking, Zhao Guangcai returned from outside. "You're back," Zhang Xiaoxiao greeted him happily. "Mm," Zhao Guangcai responded. "Come eat," Zhang Xiaoxiao said. "Okay," Zhao Guangcai nodded.
After they finished breakfast, Zhao Guangcai said, "I'm going to the small market today." "Oh," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded. "I caught a few animals yesterday to sell for some money," Zhao Guangcai explained. "Mm, then come back early," Zhang Xiaoxiao said. "Okay," Zhao Guangcai replied.
"Also, you need to pay attention to safety," Zhang Xiaoxiao reminded.
"I know," Zhao Guangcai replied.
"By the way, the little fox you brought back yesterday, you should release it," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"Why?" Zhao Guangcai asked in confusion.
"It's a wild animal; we should let it return to nature," Zhang Xiaoxiao explained.
"But it hasn't lost its wildness yet. What if it hurts someone? That would be a problem," Zhao Guangcai expressed his concern.
"You can keep it for a few days and then release it," Zhang Xiaoxiao suggested.
"That works," Zhao Guangcai nodded.
"And don't let it come near me," Zhang Xiaoxiao added.
"Why?" Zhao Guangcai asked, puzzled.
"I'm afraid it will bite me," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied.
"It won't; it's very gentle," Zhao Guangcai assured her.
"Just make sure it doesn't come near me," Zhang Xiaoxiao insisted.
"Alright," Zhao Guangcai agreed helplessly.
"Then you can go back to what you were doing," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"Okay," Zhao Guangcai responded and then left.
As soon as Zhao Guangcai left, Xiao Liang ran over.
"Sister-in-law, where's Brother Liu?" Xiao Liang asked curiously.
"He went to the small market," Zhang Xiaoxiao answered.
"Oh," Xiao Liang nodded.
"Xiao Liang, have you had breakfast?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"I have," Xiao Liang replied.
"Did you come to find me for something?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked again.
