"Ugh!"
That punch was indeed heavy. Miao Chengmin could feel his lower row of teeth collide violently with the upper row, and his whole body was lifted by the force of the punch before he fell to the ground. A wave of dizziness and nausea suddenly washed over him, and he realized that there was a thick substance in his mouth. He struggled to turn over, propping himself up with his arm, and spat a mouthful of blood onto the ground.
"I've had my eye on you for a long time," one of Wang Ruihu's two lackeys said as they stepped forward. One of them crouched down and yanked Miao Chengmin's ear upwards forcefully. "Now promise us that you won't appear around Ming Juan anymore and that you won't interfere with Young Master Wang and Ming Juan's affairs. We'll let you off today, got it?!"
"Hmph." Even though he was in excruciating pain, Miao Chengmin still struggled like a stubborn mule, shaking off the man's hand and mumbling curses, "Get lost! If you have the guts, kill me today!"
"Fine!" The lackey, seeing that Miao Chengmin was still defiant, became furious and raised his fist to strike him again!
"Stop hitting him!"
The loud shout made all three of them immediately look up. Ming Juan was holding her phone, wanting to approach but hesitating to step forward. Her heartbroken eyes were filled only with the sight of Miao Chengmin being beaten for trying to protect himself.
"I've recorded everything you're doing!" Ming Juan shouted. This was actually part of Miao Chengmin's plan that he had shared with her. Just as he had thought, these two lackeys of Wang Ruihu really did lay their hands on him, so Ming Juan quickly recorded the entire process of them beating Miao Chengmin. This way, she would have evidence to report to the school and possibly even take legal action in the future.
"Go ahead and hit me." Miao Chengmin gasped for breath while glaring at the two men. "Now we have evidence in hand; Ming Juan can send it to the cloud for safekeeping! No matter how powerful Wang Ruihu's background is, he won't be able to protect you!"
"This..." The two lackeys of Wang Ruihu were momentarily stunned. Indeed, if this really went to court, they had no confidence that Young Master Wang could save them.
"Come on, keep going!" Miao Chengmin gritted his teeth and shouted, "It's all being recorded; hit me!"
Seeing Miao Chengmin provoke them like this made the two men stomp their feet in frustration—wanting to hit him but not daring to do so; not hitting him felt like losing to him. Miao Chengmin did not resist but allowed them to hold him down while maintaining a defiant expression.
"Miao Chengmin!"
Just as they were at a standstill, a voice suddenly called out from behind. Miao Chengmin turned around to see his five roommates rushing over from the bridgehead. It turned out that Li Tao had grown worried when Miao Chengmin had not come back for so long. While going out to use the restroom, he overheard some classmates talking about what was happening outside and immediately felt anxious. He gathered his roommates and rushed out, only to see Miao Chengmin fighting with two burly men across the river.
Seeing reinforcements arrive for Miao Chengmin, the two men had no choice but to let go of him.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Li Tao charged forward, raising his fist ready to fight Wang Ruihu's lackey. The Dormitory Leader quickly grabbed Li Tao in response. He tried hard to restrain himself and shouted rationally at the two men, "What do you gain by serving Wang Ruihu? Can't you see Miss Ming is recording? Is it worth ruining your future for some worthless young master?"
Buzzing... As she pondered how she could help, Ming Juan's phone suddenly vibrated. Noticing that the two men had stopped moving towards them, she turned off the recording and checked her phone; it was a message from Yu Feiyao. Ming Juan immediately felt worried—could it be that Yu Feiyao was being held captive and Wang Ruihu wanted her to delete the video?
"Hello? Ming Juan?"
Hearing that familiar voice from Yu Feiyao made Ming Juan breathe a sigh of relief. Although she didn't know if Yu Feiyao was still in their hands, it was still better than hearing Wang Ruihu's voice.
"Fei! How are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine; I've been rescued." Yu Feiyao explained as she slumped down in the dean's office. "Two teachers heard commotion here and came out to drive Wang Ruihu away. I'm in the dean's office now; I can't take it anymore; I need to explain what's going on. What about you?"
"I'm fine too; don't worry." Ming Juan watched as Wang Ruihu's two lackeys left the parking lot with their fists raised. "But Miao Chengmin might be injured."
"What?!" Yu Feiyao jumped up immediately, somewhat incredulous as she said, "Wait... they hit people; how did they end up hitting Miao Ge?"
"Uh..." Ming Juan forced a smile, "I'll explain when we meet. I need to take him to the school hospital with his roommates first."
On Yu Feiyao's side, after hearing her complaint, the principal deemed the situation extremely serious and decided to report it to the headmaster immediately. When Ming Juan learned that Miao Chengmin was not seriously injured, she changed her previously tolerant attitude. This time, she no longer avoided Wang Ruihu but took the initiative to act, sending video evidence to the school for handling right away. Coincidentally, this year marked a change in school leadership with a new principal coming in. In the past, if Wang Ruihu had caused trouble at school, he would have just paid a fine and gotten away with it, and this time would have been no different.
However, they say a new official brings three fires; the new principal did not care about Wang Ruihu's background. Upon receiving Ming Juan's report, he immediately classified the incident as extremely severe bullying and assured Ming Juan that he would hold Wang Ruihu accountable for all previous violations committed on campus.
A week later...
"Hmph! This guy really thinks he can do whatever he wants without facing consequences!"
Across the dining table, Yu Feiyao looked at the gratifying news on her phone screen, crossing her legs like a victorious general and chugging soda straight from the can.
"Hehehe." Ming Juan smiled lightly. Indeed, this new principal was incredibly effective; within a week, he announced that Wang Ruihu would be expelled from school. With this development, Ming Juan's college life would be much more peaceful. Although she had many admirers, Wang Ruihu was simply a pervert.
"I can only say he deserves it! Well! That jerk!" Yu Feiyao laughed heartily. "Even if his dad sold himself, he couldn't save this scoundrel!"
"Haha, exactly." Ming Juan tossed her hair back and picked up a piece of vegetable to chew slowly. Although some time had passed, her mother's death still left her unsettled. It wasn't her who was corrupt in the family; she was the first to leave this world in the Ming Family. Ming Juan suspected that this was Wang Ruihu's way of slandering her through their family and seeking revenge. If that were true, she felt it wouldn't be enough just to have Wang Ruihu executed.
Lost in thought, her phone suddenly vibrated. Ming Juan opened it to find a message from Miao Chengmin. Surprised and delighted by this unexpected contact from her benefactor, she felt embarrassed.
"Congratulations! We won!" Miao Chengmin sent a congratulatory message after presumably seeing the school's announcement.
"We?" Ming Juan looked at those two words and couldn't help but smile broadly.
"Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Without you, I might have been tormented by him for four years." Ming Juan replied with a penguin emoji bowing in gratitude.
"Miao Ge, are you feeling okay?" Ming Juan continued to ask.
"I'm fine now; I've fully recovered," Miao Chengmin replied. As they grew closer, Miao Chengmin no longer held himself above Ming Juan as before. Especially after Ming Juan's mother passed away, she became more relaxed and natural around him, shedding her previous burdens and mentally considering Miao Chengmin as one of her closest friends.
But ultimately due to gender dynamics, Ming Juan's feelings for Miao Chengmin grew day by day. The dinner they had previously planned began to shift in her mind from merely expressing gratitude to something resembling a date. Sometimes she wondered if she truly had feelings for Miao Chengmin.
In truth, Ming Juan wanted to deny it; however, her heart—filled with joy and worry for him—only proved her foolishness.
"Okay then! I'm really grateful!" Ming Juan replied with a bouquet of roses attached to her message after hesitating for a moment before sending it.
"Hey, it's nothing," Miao Chengmin responded playfully with silly emojis.
"Huh? What are you doing?" Ming Juan sent back a laughing-crying emoji and asked.
"Don't forget our previous agreement," Miao Chengmin clearly referred to their dinner plan. "I've saved you so many times; isn't it fair for me to enjoy a meal with the young lady?"
Reading that message made Ming Juan burst into laughter; a sweet feeling warmed her face.
"Sure! That's definitely not too much to ask." At that moment in Yu Feiyao's eyes, Ming Juan was giggling while focused on typing away on her phone, completely ignoring her friend.
"I'll take you to a Michelin restaurant this time, how does that sound, Miao?" Ming Juan replied.
"Mi... what?" The rustic Miao Chengmin had never heard of anything Michelin before. "That restaurant's name sounds really fancy."
"That's a title, you fool," Ming Juan answered somewhat ambiguously. "Tonight, meet me at the school gate. I'll take you out to experience it. Consider it a celebration of our victory."
"Guys, what brand is Michelin?" Miao Chengmin put down his phone and asked his roommates while propping his feet up on the chair.
"Michelin?" Li Tao said, "That's a restaurant you'll never dare to step into in your lifetime."
"Huh? Why not?"
"Because once you go in, you have to order monkey brain."
"What?!"
Seeing Miao Chengmin's shocked expression, everyone burst into laughter. The Dormitory Leader, who initially wanted to correct the mistake, exchanged glances with Li Tao and realized Li Tao was just teasing him, so he joined in the laughter.
"What's wrong? You want to eat monkey brain?" the Dormitory Leader asked, watching Miao Chengmin like it was a show.
"Uh, no..." Just thinking about eating animal brains made Miao Chengmin find it hard to connect the image of Ming Juan, the beautiful young lady from a wealthy family, with such food—could it be a rich person's quirk?
"Wow, that's really disgusting," Miao Chengmin said as he put down his phone and gasped. He shivered slightly amidst the uproarious laughter of his roommates but still looked expectantly toward the girls' dormitory near the cafeteria.
