Seaside Park is named as such simply because it is a park built by the sea. A cliff with a height difference of about 50 meters divides the park into two halves. The upper part of the cliff is filled with various evergreen trees, creating a lush and serene environment in the front half of the park, while the lower half beneath the cliff serves as the back part of the park.
Walking down the long gentle slope and emerging from the dense palm grove, one is greeted by a stretch of golden sand beach and an endless expanse of blue ocean. Although Chuyang has been here many times, he cannot help but marvel at the wonders of nature. Just a cliff separates them; above lies the fertile land of Puhua River Basin, while below is the golden sandy beach. The gentle slope connecting the two areas feels like a space tunnel, where one moment he is appreciating the beauty of temperate continental gardens, and the next he finds himself in Hawaii, enjoying tropical beach scenery.
Fortunately, it is not as mystical as it sounds; it is merely a change in natural scenery, and the temperature remains consistent. Now it is Late Autumn, and even though Rongcheng is a coastal city with temperatures higher than inland areas, it is still far from warm enough to wear shorts and swim casually in the sea. Therefore, there are no bikini-clad women playing volleyball or shirtless men surfing on the waves here.
However, despite this, compared to the front half of the park, this narrow stretch of beach appears more lively and bustling. Here, children and teenagers abound because most of Seaside Park's entertainment facilities are located on this soft sand beach, such as merry-go-rounds, seesaws, and slides.
The enormous tent of Squirrel Circus, adorned with colorful balloons and flags, stands tall not far from the base of the cliff.
Holding hands with Firefly and stepping on the soft sand, Chuyang navigates around groups of children playing games. He swats away a volleyball that was heading towards Firefly and glares at a clumsy boy who ran over to retrieve it. However, he himself gets hit squarely on the head by a misdirected shuttlecock. If it weren't for the fact that a girl was holding the racket and she had repeatedly bowed to apologize, along with having important matters to attend to, Chuyang would have really wanted to confront her. You may have hit him without consequence, but there are so many little kids around! If you accidentally hit one of them, just wait until their parents deal with you.
Since it is not performance time, when Chuyang lifts the curtain at the entrance of the Circus, there are hardly any spectators inside. The vast space feels unusually quiet, with only a few staff members preparing for the next show on the semi-circular stage at the back.
Surrounding the stage is a simple tiered seating area made of iron frames. As he walks down the aisle between the seats and stage under bright lights, he notices staff members greeting Firefly as they pass by. It’s evident that the little girl has good rapport within this Circus, even this stranger following her receives many friendly glances from staff members.
“Wow, Firefly, run!” Just as he lifts the curtain leading to backstage beside the stage, before Chuyang can see what’s inside, a beast about half his height swings its gleaming claws at him; it turns out to be an African lion.
Without thinking twice, Chuyang steps in front of Firefly to protect her closely behind him. In fact, he should be running instead of Firefly because no matter how fierce a beast may be, encountering Fleet Girls would only lead to its downfall. Yet Ling Yi instinctively forgets this point and treats Firefly like an ordinary little girl.
“Simba, be good; this is Brother Chu Yang.” Just as it seems that the lion will pounce on Chuyang, with Firefly's clear voice ringing out, this seemingly ferocious lion astonishingly halts its movement. It bends its hind legs and sits down on its haunches while raising its front paws towards Chuyang, displaying an almost flattering demeanor from its furry face. Isn’t it said that animals cannot become sentient after nation-building? So what does this make of this lion?
"Brother Chu Yang, are you okay?" Firefly looked at the frozen Chu Yang with some concern.
"I'm fine." Although the lion in front of him hadn't caused any real harm, the moment had scared him quite a bit, leaving him drenched in cold sweat. He was indeed a top student at Rongcheng Naval Academy and had won the sparring championship at the Admiral Branch every year, but facing an adult male lion without any weapons, Chu Yang could only say: you go ahead.
"Don't be afraid, Simba is part of my ship equipment; it won't hurt you." The speaker was a woman dressed in tight black leather, holding a whip, exuding a cold demeanor that gave off a strong SM Queen vibe.
"I see." Chu Yang let out a long sigh of relief.
In this world, the ship equipment of Fleet Girls is not solely composed of turrets and torpedoes; it also includes some special components. For instance, at Rongcheng Naval Academy and Fleet Girl Academy, there was a Destroyer Girl named Blizzard, whom Chu Yang had once encountered. She had a curly-haired teddy dog, which, like this lion named Simba, was also a special type of ship equipment. Thinking back to the game settings from his previous life, U81's three little wolves—Berg, Otto, Friedrich—and Bismarck's Black Cat Oscar made this lion named Simba seem less surprising.
"Firefly, take this Admiral gentleman to my office," said the White-Haired Mistress as she turned and walked toward the back.
"Who is she?" Even without being told by the White-Haired Mistress, Chu Yang could tell she was a Fleet Girl. However, it was difficult to determine whether she was a Battleship, Aircraft Carrier, Battlecruiser, Heavy Cruiser, or Destroyer without her revealing her ship equipment.
As for judging by external age: Elder Sisters are typically Aircraft Carriers or Battleships; Battlecruiser Shipgirls are older; young girls are usually Heavy Cruisers or Light Cruiser Ship Girls; Destroyers are often loli elementary school girls; and younger ones are Submarines or heavy artillery. While this pattern generally holds true, it isn't always reliable. For example, that Destroyer Fubuki from Rongcheng Naval Academy who raised a curly-haired teddy was actually around twenty years old.
"I only know that Sister Filin is a Battlecruiser Shipgirl and the leader of our Circus. As for her real name, I don't know," Firefly replied. She had seen Filin deploy her ship equipment from afar but didn't know the specific parameters of her equipment and thus couldn't determine if Filin was the manifestation of that Battleship from the Old World.
