"Granny Wang, do you have time right now?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"Yes, what's up?" Granny Wang replied.
"I have something I want to ask you," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"Alright, let's talk in the yard," Granny Wang suggested.
"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded.
The four of them went to the yard and sat down separately.
"What is it?" Granny Wang asked.
"Are Xiao Liang's parents really getting a divorce?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked directly.
"Ah? Who said that?" Granny Wang was surprised.
"Xiao Liang saw a letter his dad wrote," Zhang Xiaoxiao explained.
"This..." Granny Wang hesitated a bit.
"Is it true?" Zhang Xiaoxiao pressed on.
"It can't be, Changgui and Xiao Ying have a good relationship; how could they get divorced?" Granny Wang denied.
Although Granny Wang denied it, her expression and tone seemed somewhat stiff.
Zhang Xiaoxiao knew that Granny Wang wasn't completely truthful, but she didn't press further since this wasn't exactly a pleasant topic.
"When will they be back?" Zhang Xiaoxiao changed the subject.
"They should be back soon," Granny Wang replied.
"Oh," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded.
"Grandma, do you know why Dad wants to divorce Mom?" Xiao Liang asked.
"This..." Granny Wang hesitated again.
"Is it because Dad has another lady outside?" Xiao Liang speculated.
"Stop talking nonsense and don't make wild guesses," Granny Wang said.
"Oh," Xiao Liang replied.
"Do you know the specific reason?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"Well, I'm not very clear either. I just occasionally hear them arguing, saying that Changgui's temper is getting worse and Xiao Ying is becoming fiercer," Granny Wang said.
"I see," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded.
"But it doesn't necessarily mean they are getting a divorce; it could be for other reasons," Granny Wang added.
"Mm," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded.
The four of them chatted for a while longer, and then Zhang Xiaoxiao and Zhao Guangcai went home.
After walking for a bit, the light rain finally stopped.
"Finally stopped," Zhang Xiaoxiao exclaimed.
"Mm," Zhao Guangcai replied.
"Let's go back," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"Okay," Zhao Guangcai nodded.
The two held hands as they walked home, encountering several villagers along the way, all smiling and greeting each other.
A few days later at noon, Granny Wang's son and daughter-in-law returned, who are Xiao Liang's parents.
Rumors began to spread in the village about their family.
On the day Uncle Changgui returned, villagers gathered at Granny Wang's doorstep, eager to gossip.
Zhang Xiaoxiao and Zhao Guangcai also arrived at Granny Wang's house and, as they got closer, they heard intense arguing coming from inside.
"Chen Shuying, do you agree to the divorce or not?" Uncle Changgui shouted.
"I do not agree; you can't get a divorce!" Chen Shuying retorted angrily.
"Why?" Uncle Changgui asked.
"Why? How can you even ask me why? You would abandon our son for that vixen!" Chen Shuying exclaimed furiously.
"Watch your mouth; what vixen? She's my colleague," Uncle Changgui countered.
"Colleague? Are you going to divorce me for her?" Chen Shuying questioned.
"I said, I'm not doing it for her; it's because your temper has gotten worse. I can't tolerate it anymore," Uncle Changgui replied.
"My temper is bad? Who do you think caused that? You left for a whole year, leaving Xiao Liang with me. I have to work and take care of him every day, and sometimes deal with all the gossip. How can I not be frustrated?" Chen Shuying shouted.
"Your frustration is your problem. What good does it do to take it out on me?" Uncle Changgui said impatiently.
"You..." Chen Shuying was extremely angry.
"Xiao Liang, are you with me or with her? You choose," Uncle Changgui stated.
"I'm with Mom," Xiao Liang said without hesitation.
"Fine, then stay with her," Uncle Changgui said coldly.
