"You... you all..." Granny Wang was so angry that she couldn't speak.
"Granny Wang, you're getting more confused as you age," the village chief said, stepping out from the crowd with a grim expression.
"Village chief, why are you here?" Granny Wang asked nervously.
"If I hadn't come, how long would you continue this ruckus?" the village chief replied angrily.
"Village chief, you have to stand up for me," Granny Wang pleaded.
"How can I stand up for you? Just look at what you've done," the village chief questioned.
"I..." Granny Wang was at a loss for words.
"You and your son abandoned your family without shame, and now you're secretly trying to take the child away. Don't you think that's too much?" the village chief said.
"Village chief, why are you siding with outsiders?" Granny Wang complained.
"I support reason over personal ties," the village chief stated.
"But..." Granny Wang wanted to say more.
"But what?" the village chief asked.
"But... but Changgui's new girlfriend is a key figure in the factory, and her father is the deputy workshop director," Granny Wang explained.
"Hmph! So what?" the village chief scoffed.
"What do you mean by that, village chief?" Granny Wang asked in confusion.
"My meaning is clear: Changgui's actions are wrong; he has abandoned his family, and that is immoral," the village chief said.
"This..." Granny Wang was left speechless.
"And who gave you the right to secretly take the child away?" the village chief questioned.
"I... I just missed him, so I wanted to take him back for a few days," Granny Wang replied.
"You're talking nonsense; you clearly just want to snatch Xiao Liang away from me," Chen Shuying countered.
"You... you're slandering me!" Granny Wang exclaimed in frustration.
"Enough, everyone stop arguing," the village chief shouted angrily.
"Village chief, you have to stand up for me," Granny Wang cried out.
"Granny Wang, Xiao Liang has already returned to Chen Shuying; he has nothing to do with your Wang family anymore," the village chief said.
"What? You... you're turning against us," Granny Wang retorted angrily.
"I'm being realistic," the village chief replied.
"You..." Granny Wang was so furious that she couldn't find her words.
"Alright, everyone disperse; stop causing a scene here," the village chief said.
"No, it can't just end like this," Granny Wang insisted stubbornly.
"What do you want then?" the village chief frowned.
"I want you to severely punish Chen Shuying; she... she incited Xiao Liang to bite me," Granny Wang said fiercely.
"This..." The village chief was at a loss.
"Village chief, don't hesitate; quickly lock up this wicked woman," Granny Wang urged.
"Village chief, please don't!" Chen Shuying panicked.
"Village chief, you can't just take her word for it," Zhang Xiaoxiao said from the side.
"Yes, village chief, don't listen to her alone," the fellow villagers echoed.
"You... you all actually side with this shameless woman," Granny Wang exclaimed in exasperation.
"Granny Wang, watch your language," the village chief said with a dark expression.
"I..." Granny Wang was left speechless.
"Village chief, hurry and arrest this malicious woman," Granny Wang pressed on.
"This..." The village chief hesitated.
"Village chief, don't forget who my son's new girlfriend is," Granny Wang threatened.
"You..." The village chief was so angered that he couldn't speak.
"Village chief, there's no need to be put in a difficult position," Chen Shuying spoke up.
"Chen Shuying, you don't need to be afraid. I will stand up for you," the village chief said.
"Thank you, village chief," Chen Shuying replied gratefully.
"You... you all actually side with this wretch," Granny Wang said, exasperated.
"Granny Wang, please stop causing a scene. It won't do any good for anyone," the village chief said.
"You... you all..." Granny Wang was so furious that she couldn't find the words.
" Changgui, are you alright?" Granny Wang walked over to her son and asked with concern.
"Mom, it hurts so much," Wang Changgui cried out.
"You bunch of bastards, how could you beat my son like this?" Granny Wang said fiercely.
"Village chief, look at what they have done to my son!" Granny Wang pointed at her son's face and exclaimed.
"Oh dear, this is quite serious," the village chief exaggerated on purpose.
"Yes, village chief, you must stand up for us," Granny Wang pleaded.
"Village chief, it wasn't our fault," a villager said from the side.
"I know, I know," the village chief waved his hand dismissively.
"What do you mean by that, village chief?" Granny Wang asked in confusion.
"What I mean is that everyone was too rough," the village chief explained.
"Are you blaming us, village chief?" the villagers asked nearby.
"No, no, I'm just speaking the truth," the village chief waved his hand again.
"That's good to hear," the villagers sighed in relief.
"Village chief, what... what are you saying?" Granny Wang looked bewildered.
"Granny Wang, don't worry; I will stand up for you," the village chief said deliberately.
Upon hearing his words, the villagers couldn't help but chuckle quietly.
The village chief was not truly supporting Granny Wang; he was clearly hinting that the villagers had been too harsh. However, the villagers understood that he didn't genuinely want to punish them, so they were not worried.
