Chen Shuying was surprised to hear that a woman had come to Wang Changgui's home, even though she had guessed who it was.
"Xiao Liang, let's go," Chen Shuying said, holding her son's hand.
Xiao Liang looked at Chen Shuying, remaining silent but following her quietly.
Chen Shuying smiled slightly at Xiao Liang to reassure him that she was fine.
"Are you okay, Chen girl?" asked the Gossiping Woman.
"I'm fine, Aunt," Chen Shuying replied with a forced smile.
"Chen girl, you... well, never mind, hurry and go to the village chief's house," the Gossiping Woman said hesitantly.
"Okay," Chen Shuying nodded and then left with Xiao Liang.
Throughout the journey, Chen Shuying felt very complicated emotions. Although she planned to start anew, Wang Changgui had been with that woman for three years, and she was unsure if she could forget everything.
"Mom, does Dad not want us anymore?" Xiao Liang looked up at Chen Shuying with tearful eyes and asked.
"Xiao Liang, Dad doesn't not want us; it's just that he and Mom are not suitable for each other and have separated," Chen Shuying squatted down to wipe Xiao Liang's tears and said.
"Mom, can I live with you?" Xiao Liang cried.
"Xiao Liang, Mom hopes you will always be by my side," Chen Shuying hugged Xiao Liang and choked back her tears.
"Mom, I will never leave you," Xiao Liang said.
"Good child," Chen Shuying patted Xiao Liang's back.
"Mom, don't cry," Xiao Liang reached out his small hand to wipe away Chen Shuying's tears.
"Okay, Mom won't cry," Chen Shuying sniffed and said.
"Mom, let's hurry to find Grandpa Village Chief," Xiao Liang urged.
"Alright, let's go," Chen Shuying replied.
Holding Xiao Liang's hand, Chen Shuying continued toward the village chief's house.
When they arrived at the village chief's house, he saw Chen Shuying and Xiao Liang coming in and invited them to sit down.
"Chen girl, I have good news for you," the village chief said cheerfully.
"What good news is it, Village Chief?" Chen Shuying asked curiously.
"The new Textile Factory in town is hiring workers. A few respected people in the village discussed it and decided to recommend you," the village chief said.
"Village Chief, can I really do it?" Chen Shuying expressed her worries.
"Why not? You're young and educated; you'll definitely be fine," the village chief encouraged her.
"Thank you so much," Chen Shuying said gratefully.
"Chen girl, don't let everyone down with their expectations of you," the village chief advised her earnestly.
"I will not disappoint them," Chen Shuying replied firmly.
"Your job will be quite easy; you can take Xiao Liang with you. There will be a room for him, and they also provide three meals a day," the village chief added.
"Village Chief, I..." Chen Shuying said excitedly.
"Chen girl, don't cry, this is a good thing," the Village Chief comforted her.
"Village Chief, when do we start working?" Chen Shuying wiped her tears and asked.
"We'll start working next Monday," the Village Chief replied.
"Okay, I understand," Chen Shuying nodded.
"Chen girl, if you encounter any difficulties, feel free to come to me," the Village Chief said.
"Thank you, Village Chief," Chen Shuying expressed her gratitude.
"Chen girl, we are all from the same village; it's only right to help each other," the Village Chief said.
"You are right, Village Chief," Chen Shuying agreed.
"Chen girl, take Xiao Liang out to play," the Village Chief suggested.
"Alright, Village Chief, we'll be on our way now," Chen Shuying said.
"Go ahead," the Village Chief waved his hand.
Chen Shuying left the Village Chief's house with Xiao Liang. Instead of going home immediately, she took Xiao Liang to Wang Changgui's house.
In Wang Changgui's yard, there was a small car parked; Chen Shuying recognized it as Qian Baoli's.
"Mom, why is there a car at Dad's house?" Xiao Liang asked.
"That's someone else's car," Chen Shuying explained.
"Oh," Xiao Liang nodded in vague understanding.
Holding Xiao Liang's hand, Chen Shuying walked into the yard.
In the yard, Granny Wang saw Chen Shuying and immediately frowned.
"What are you doing here?" Granny Wang asked displeased.
"Granny Wang, I'm here to watch the fun," Chen Shuying replied lightly.
"What fun?" Granny Wang was taken aback and asked.
"You'll find out soon enough," Chen Shuying teased deliberately.
"Hmph, I can't be bothered with you," Granny Wang snorted coldly.
Ignoring Granny Wang, Chen Shuying stood still and waited for the show to begin.
After a moment, a sharp voice came from inside the house.
"Wang Changgui, is this your home?"
Immediately after, a stylishly dressed young girl walked out; it was Qian Baoli.
"Baoli, this is my home," Wang Changgui followed behind and said flatteringly.
"Wang Changgui, why is your house so shabby?" Qian Baoli complained disdainfully.
"Baoli, we have guests at home," Wang Changgui reminded her.
"What guests?" Qian Baoli asked.
"It’s my... my ex-wife," Wang Changgui hesitated.
"Ex-wife?" Qian Baoli exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes," Wang Changgui nodded.
"Oh, how did your ex-wife end up at home?" Qian Baoli said sarcastically.
"I..." Wang Changgui awkwardly struggled to find words.
"Changgui, is this your wife from the city?" Granny Wang asked excitedly upon seeing Qian Baoli.
"Yes, Mother, her name is Qian Baoli," Wang Changgui introduced.
"Baoli, what brings you here?" Granny Wang asked warmly.
"Who are you?" Qian Baoli frowned and asked.
"I am Changgui's mother," Granny Wang replied.
"Oh, so you’re the mother-in-law," Qian Baoli mocked.
"Yes, yes, I am the mother-in-law," Granny Wang nodded and smiled ingratiatingly.
"Mother-in-law, do I look like a seductress?" Qian Baoli suddenly asked.
"No, you’re beautiful; you don’t look like a seductress," Granny Wang praised.
"Haha, Mother-in-law, you really know how to flatter," Qian Baoli said happily.
"Baoli, don’t mind her; let’s go inside," Wang Changgui said.
"Okay," Qian Baoli nodded.
Wang Changgui wrapped his arm around Qian Baoli's waist and walked toward the house.
Granny Wang felt furious seeing that Qian Baoli disregarded her, but due to Qian Baoli's status, she could only swallow her anger.
Chen Shuying watched Granny Wang being put in her place and felt secretly pleased.
"Chen Shuying, did you see? My son has found a new wife again," Granny Wang said proudly.
"Granny Wang, whether your son finds a wife or not has nothing to do with me," Chen Shuying replied dismissively.
"Hmph, my son's wife is from the city," Granny Wang boasted.
"Is that so? Then congratulations to you," Chen Shuying said with disdain.
