"Before the exam today, I clearly checked and there were no notes in my pencil case. So why did I find a note in there during the exam?"
"Weren't you the ones who said you didn't want me to take the college entrance exam? Now it's just as you wished, right?"
"Are you happy now?"
Song Kang shouted, tears streaming down his face.
He cried hysterically, collapsing to the ground, looking utterly disheveled.
"I'm finished; my life is over."
"I got caught cheating; no school will accept me for the rest of my life."
"Song Kang, what are you saying?"
My dad finally understood and shouted, "Are you saying there was a note in your pencil case?"
"Yes."
Song Kang nodded through his tears, "It's that note that ruined my whole life."
"How could this happen?"
My dad frowned tightly and quickly asked, "What did that note say?"
"How would I know?"
Song Kang cried out in anguish, "When I went in, I opened the pencil case and threw the note out. How could I know what it said?"
"You silly child, how could you throw away the note?"
My dad looked anxious, "That was a letter of encouragement from your grandfather."
"Grandfather?"
Song Kang paused for a moment and looked up towards the staircase.
He saw his grandfather slowly coming down, wearing a coat.
"Song Kang, how did you do on the exam?"
His grandfather rubbed his hands together, looking somewhat excited.
"Grandfather, was it you?"
Song Kang felt as if he had seen a lifeline, scrambling to his grandfather and grabbing the hem of his pants, crying out, "Grandpa, did you put the note in my pencil case?"
"Yes."
His grandfather nodded and helped Song Kang up. "You said you would definitely pass this exam, didn't you?"
"I even wrote you a note to take with you; I didn't expect you to dislike it so much."
"You..."
Song Kang stared blankly at his grandfather, seemingly unable to process what was happening.
His grandfather, still lost in his own world, smiled and said, "Song Kang, I told you, it's okay if you don't pass."
"You can go to your sister's school for some experience, and then you'll be able to get into Tsinghua and Peking University."
"By the way, where is your sister?"
His grandfather looked around and finally noticed me and my mom standing nearby.
He smiled at me, "Ning Ning, how did your brother do on the college entrance exam?"
"Grandpa,"
Song Kang said with a cry in his voice, "I'm finished; my whole life is over."
"I was caught cheating on the spot; I won't be able to get into college for This Life."
"What?"
His grandfather paused for a moment before shaking his head. "No way, Song Kang, don't scare Grandpa; he's not very brave."
"Grandpa, I'm really done for."
Song Kang cried out, "I told you not to touch my things; why didn't you listen?"
"What happened?"
My dad finally returned and saw Grandpa and Song Kang huddled in a corner crying together. He couldn't help but ask.
I explained the situation.
My dad frowned slightly; he glanced at Grandpa and then at Song Kang. After a while, he sighed, "I thought it was something serious."
"It's just cheating; what's the big deal?"
"Song Kang, don't cry anymore. It's just college, right? Your sister didn't get in, but you can still make it."
"But Dad, I got caught cheating."
Song Kang cried so hard he could barely catch his breath: "I can't even get into college in this life."
"Hey."
My dad waved his hand dismissively: "It's not a big deal; it's just college."
"I just went out and closed a big deal. The client will be here soon. Once the business is done, our family will have money. Then your sister can go for further studies, and you can apply to whatever college you want."
"Song Kang, stop crying. If worse comes to worst, you just won't go to college. It's not a big deal."
My dad looked proud: "Anyway, I don't expect you to inherit my business. Everything I have will eventually be yours."
