Zhou Na finally noticed me. She looked at me, paused for two seconds, and then smiled, "Hello."
I returned the smile, "Hello."
Yu Fengshu said, "Jiajia, this is Zhou Na, my high school classmate."
"Xiao Na, this is Ma Jia, my... wife."
Zhou Na smiled again, but this time there was a hint of bitterness in her expression.
"Let's find a place to talk," Yu Fengshu suggested.
Neither Zhou Na nor I objected.
We found a restaurant and requested a private room.
Yu Fengshu ordered several dishes, all of which I loved.
Suddenly, I remembered how he used to know all my preferences; he would always consider me first in everything he did.
He would cook for me, serve me food, take me on trips, and take photos of me. He walked with me through life's storms and rainbows.
But now, looking at Yu Fengshu sitting across from me, I suddenly felt he was a stranger.
The three of us finished our meal in silence until Yu Fengshu finally spoke up.
"Xiao Na has had a crush on me for many years. A year ago, she confessed her feelings to me," he said.
I stared at him in shock, my mind blank.
Yu Fengshu looked at me too; his gaze was calm and his expression peaceful, as if he were talking about someone else's affairs.
"I actually don't like her; she just reminds me too much of my past—humble and pitiful. I wanted to help her."
"You want to help her?" I looked at him in disbelief. "How do you plan to help?"
He was silent for a moment and said, "She is having my child."
My mind buzzed, and I suddenly felt blank.
Zhou Na hung her head, not daring to look at me.
Yu Fengshu continued,
"Jiajia, if you can accept the child in her womb, then we can consider it even, and we can start over."
"Even?" I finally reacted,
"Yu Fengshu, what do you mean? Are you saying you want a divorce?"
"I don't."
"Then what do you mean by 'even'?"
"I..." He was at a loss for words.
"Yu Fengshu, did you cheat on me?"
"I didn't!" He immediately retorted,
"I just gave her a child. If you accept this child, then we are even, and we can be together equally."
I looked at him in disbelief, feeling disgusted and terrified.
"Yu Fengshu, you really make me sick."
I threw down this sentence and turned to get out of the car.
Yu Fengshu immediately chased after me, grabbing my arm and pulling me back into the car.
"Jiajia, listen to me. Xiaona is innocent; she did nothing wrong. The one at fault is me—I'm confused and foolish—but the child is innocent."
"Yu Fengshu, let me go!" I struggled.
But Yu Fengshu held my hand tightly and pleaded,
"Jiajia, I'm begging you, the child is innocent.
Please accept him, okay?"
"Yu Fengshu, you want me to accept a child that belongs to you and another woman?"
I found it absurd. "What do you take me for?"
"Jiajia, I love you, I truly love you.
I can't live without you, but I made a mistake. I was confused, I was foolish.
I'm willing to make amends; as long as you accept that child,
we can go back to how we were before."
"Back to how we were before?" I found it laughable.
"Yu Fengshu, did you ever really love me?"
"Of course," he answered without hesitation.
"I had a crush on you for eight years. I helped you overcome the shadows of your first love.
I watched you grow up; how could I not love you?"
I believed every word he said,
but at that moment, my heart felt cold.
It turned out his tenderness and love
were nothing more than my one-sided wishful thinking.
