Two proctors finished distributing the exam papers.
"Begin the exam—" the sharp-nosed proctor who had intercepted Rek from entering the examination room began to say, but before he could finish, his head suddenly exploded with a loud bang, blood gushing out rapidly, splattering flesh and brain matter onto the surrounding students.
"Ah!" Screams, cries for help, and pleas echoed throughout the room.
Rek saw that the face of the sharp-nosed proctor, whose head had just exploded, appeared above the small door of the examination room.
Only fifty students and another proctor remained in the room. The dim barrier of Multi-Faced Man had quietly formed after the first proctor's head exploded.
Rek glanced outside; the world beyond the window had turned gray and indistinct. He realized that this classroom was now shrouded in Multi-Faced Man's dim barrier, and Classroom 3802 was temporarily cut off from the outside world.
In a panic, several students rushed to the door, trying to pull the handle. However, in their frenzy, they failed to notice that the face of the sharp-nosed proctor who had exploded appeared on the door handle.
As two students touched the door handle, their bodies were suddenly and bizarrely sucked into the door, their struggling faces then appearing on its surface.
This terrified the other students who were about to flee, causing them to retreat in fear.
"Quickly return to your seats! Don't touch the door," said another surviving female proctor, struggling to control her emotions as she trembled while speaking.
The classroom was filled with cries and screams. Some students looked out the window only to find they could no longer see anything outside. Others picked up their Wrist Communicator, but after turning it on, there was no signal.
Suddenly, a bald humanoid creature with three faces—each face sporting two large mouths and four pairs of eyes—appeared at the podium.
"During the exam, no noise is allowed. Students who make noise will lose their qualification to continue," all three faces said simultaneously in a calm tone.
Faced with the sudden appearance of a monster on the classroom podium, five or six girls screamed in fright.
Immediately, these screaming students were sucked into the Ground, their terrified faces appearing on the surrounding walls and ceiling.
This situation left the recently startled Student, who wanted to speak up, covering their mouth with their hands, afraid to cry out. The Students and the remaining proctor knew that if they made a sound now, they would be absorbed into the wall, and that outcome would be more terrifying than death.
"Now we begin the exam; roll call will be conducted! You, stand up and answer: what is the difference between Dark Space and Main Space?" The Multi-Faced Man pointed at a student close to him.
The student was so frightened that he stood there dumbfounded, staring blankly at the Multi-Faced Man.
"If you exceed the time limit for your answer, you will fail." As the Multi-Faced Man spoke, the pointed student was sucked into the Ground, his struggling face appearing on the black-and-white podium.
"Next, you, come answer about the air composition of Dark Space." The Multi-Faced Man pointed at a Chubby Male Candidate.
The Chubby Male Candidate trembled as he stood up. "Dark Space... the air composition should have oxygen, right? I don’t know; I don’t pay much attention to Dark Space. Please don’t take my face away." The Chubby Kid said.
"Fail." As soon as the Multi-Faced Man's words fell, the chubby boy's face reappeared on the blackboard, and his body vanished.
"You candidates are so ignorant that you don’t even know basic knowledge; it’s outrageous. You, stand up and answer what are the main biological components of Dark Space." The Multi-Faced Man pointed at the proctor.
The Female Proctor was so scared that she fell directly to the ground. "Dark Space has mutated beasts called Mutant Beasts. They are more brutal than the creatures of Main Space Earth. There are also some creatures hiding under Sand, most of which are in a dormant state. There are many other creatures that are different from those on Earth. I am a history teacher, not a researcher of Dark Space. I am not a candidate; please don’t kill me! Much information about Dark Space is classified by the military and not disclosed to outsiders."
"You fail. Everyone in this room is a candidate." The Multi-Faced Man said angrily as the Female Proctor's body disappeared again, her face appearing on the blackboard.
The Multi-Faced Man continued to ask questions relentlessly. Even if a candidate managed to answer a small question correctly by chance, he would delve deeper into it. Most candidates from the Star Alliance Federation did not pay much attention to Dark Space; even if they knew something, there were many inaccuracies. The Star Alliance Federation news had reported that Dark Space contained abundant resources but rarely mentioned other information, causing candidates' faces to continuously appear on the blackboard.
Fifty candidates and two proctors, and now thirty candidates and both proctors are dead. Only twenty candidates remain seated in the back row. Only half an hour has passed.
Rek looked at the time on the Wrist Communicator; three hours of the dim barrier felt too long.
Unexpectedly, the entity they encountered was a mental-type Alien Species known as the Multi-Faced Man. Rumors of the Multi-Faced Man only emerged in the later stages of the apocalypse, and each appearance heralded disaster for the Federation.
In the later stages of combat with Alien Species, a small Mobile City Fortress of the Federation fell victim to an invasion by a high-level Weird Species Multi-Faced Being's dim barrier. Everyone inside the Fortress had their faces attached to the city walls, turning it into a dead city overnight.
The Multi-Faced Man was now pointing at Rek, continuously asking questions that none of the candidates could answer completely, causing its three eerie faces to become increasingly grotesque.
"Briefly describe the primary biological characteristics of Dark Space. Such a simple question, and you all can't answer it? Why even participate in the exam?"
Rek stood up and looked at the Multi-Faced Man's numerous large eyes. "Dark Space's primary organisms possess strong adaptability, which relates to their living environment. The main rulers of Dark Space are Alien Species, a collective term for all strange creatures. Primary Aberrations mostly exhibit social behavior, with each group having a mother body," Rek explained.
"Ah, Alien Species—a good term, very vivid. You even know about mother bodies. Continue answering questions; finally, I've encountered a decent candidate. Now, briefly describe the main abilities and characteristics of higher-level Alien Species in Dark Space," said the Multi-Faced Man, pointing at Rek.
"High-level organisms in Dark Space are known as Alien Evolution Bodies. An Alien Evolution Body is an individual Alien Species that sacrifices its reproductive ability to continuously enhance its own power; only then can it be considered a true Alien Species. They possess characteristics such as cellular recovery, venom attacks, energy attacks, and cellular regeneration. Depending on the type of Alien Evolution Body, after three evolutions, they may also gain special skills," Rek continued.
"Ah! Not bad; continue to describe the special skills of Alien Species after three evolutions!" said the Multi-Faced Man.
"For example, you are evolved four times from a Multi-Eyed Insect Primary Aberration. After three evolutions, you gained three faces; after completing four evolutions, you acquired your current ability to control our Dim Space," Rek explained.
