"Mr. Gu?" 0
"Mr. Gu? Can you hear me?" 0
Gu Yan was startled by the reminder from the other end of the call and snapped back to reality. The black screen on his phone indicated that he had been distracted for quite some time. The staff member on the other end was inquiring whether there was anything else to add to the routine supply list for the villa, such as a large quantity of meat like in previous orders. 0
"Not for now...," Gu Yan replied softly. 0
"Does Mr. Gu have any carnivorous pets that need feeding during this time?" The usually polite and gentle Gu Yan left a good impression on the staff member, who occasionally asked light-hearted but somewhat intrusive questions beyond business matters. 0
"During this time... there's no need for delivery. Just those on the list along with what's in storage will be fine. Thank you." Gu Yan did not provide a clear answer regarding whether he had pets, quickly ending the call with a brief thank you. 0
Staring at his phone, which had switched from the call interface to the home screen, Gu Yan fell into deep thought. 0
Since waking up that morning, Siren had vanished without a trace for an entire week. 0
At first, Gu Yan pulled up all the surveillance footage from the villa, including the flower room on the third floor, the villa entrance, and the stairwell. He fast-forwarded through it bit by bit, trying to find Siren's route of departure, but found nothing. 0
He rewound to that very first day, seeing himself carefully carrying the unconscious Siren back; of course, perhaps he hadn't actually passed out. He recalled the footage from the stairwell where he carried Siren up to the third floor, remembering that day's sunset in the flower room, followed by the starry sky by the beach, and that intense and intoxicating lovemaking in the stairwell... 0
The cameras installed at these physical points clearly recorded their movements, but everything came to an abrupt halt on that night before Siren's unconsciousness. 0
Gu Yan replayed that day's footage over and over again, yet there was not a single trace of Siren. 0
After watching the night sky, a sleeping Gu Yan was carried into the bedroom by Siren; then came the unchanging stairwell. Aside from the changing light indicating time passing from dark to bright, there was nothing else. 0
Dappled light fell on Gu Yan's profile as he sighed deeply, rubbing his aching forehead, appearing somewhat lost in thought. 0
Given all of Siren's various seductions after shedding his disguise, Gu Yan should have wanted nothing more than to rid himself of him quickly. After all, no one could endure being dominated and thoroughly taken by another man—one who could hardly be called human—without feeling utterly violated. 0
When that culprit disappeared, one would expect the victim to feel relieved and liberated. 0
However, at this moment, Gu Yan's sense of emptiness and longing surpassed everything else. 0
After all... it was Siren... 0
Gu Yan's consciousness felt somewhat ethereal. 0
That was Siren—the one he had searched for so long and desired for so long... 0
Deep down, Gu Yan questioned himself about what he truly wanted between "the current state of Siren's disappearance" and "maintaining things as they were." He thought he would unhesitatingly choose the former, but reality proved otherwise. 0
Gu Yan could not make a decision. 0
In the end, he pressed off the glowing screen and turned his phone face down on the coffee table in the living room. 0
