Liu Cuiyun walked over with a bowl of chicken soup and placed it on the table. The soup was greasy and glimmered. I couldn't help but feel a wave of nausea. Yangyang also frowned. Liu Cuiyun's eyes darted, and she smiled as she said, "Jingjing, right? Come, try your auntie's cooking." She pushed the chicken soup toward me. I instinctively leaned back. Liu Cuiyun's expression darkened: "What? Do you dislike the food I made?" I shook my head and cautiously replied, "Auntie, I don't dislike it, it's just..." Before I could finish, Liu Cuiyun eagerly shoved the chicken soup into my hands: "If you don't dislike it, then drink up! Hurry up and give us a big fat baby for the the Ma Family!" I smiled awkwardly and took a sip from the bowl. "Auntie, your soup is really delicious." Liu Cuiyun beamed with pride: "Of course! I've been cooking for decades." I complimented her: "No wonder, your skills are almost on par with a chef at a restaurant." Liu Cuiyun smiled even more happily. Her eyes twinkled as she suddenly snatched my bowl: "Since you like it, then drink more." She poured an entire bowl of chicken soup into mine.
The greasy chicken soup reflected the light, making me feel nauseous. I held the chopsticks, my hands shaking violently. In a moment of carelessness, half a bowl of chicken soup splashed all over Liu Cuiyun.
Liu Cuiyun exploded in anger, "You little brat, you did that on purpose, didn't you?"
I panicked and waved the chopsticks around, "Auntie, I didn't mean to! I... I... I'm nearsighted, I can't see clearly..."
Liu Cuiyun cursed fiercely, "You little brat, do you still dare to make excuses? I see you don't want to live anymore!" She ran to the door, pulled out the door latch, and was about to hit me.
I cried out loudly, "Auntie, I really didn't mean it! Please don't hit me, I'm so scared, I'm so scared..."
The children outside heard my cries and ran over to watch the commotion. A child asked in a baby voice, "Mommy, why is that auntie crying?" The child's mother quickly picked up the child and left.
Ma Zhigang felt embarrassed and slammed the table hard, "We're eating here, what are you making a fuss about? For a woman like you, just being at the table is already giving you face; when do you get to speak?"
Liu Cuiyun immediately fell silent. For a moment, the dining table was eerily quiet.
After dinner, Yangyang and I went to wash the dishes together. We exchanged smiles. Now we had fully accepted my "half-blind" persona. As long as I was unhappy, I could make Liu Cuiyun dance to my tune.
Late at night, I was locked in the Dark Room again. I perked up my ears, listening to the sounds around me. Usually at this time, I could hear the heavy breathing of a man coming from deep within the duck pen, but today, there was none. Just as I was wondering about it, two silly voices rang out: "Mom, we're back." It was the two foolish sons of the the Ma Family —Victory and Leap Forward.
Liu Cuiyun's tone was impatient: "Didn't I give you money to go watch a movie? Why are you back so early?" Victory replied in a gruff voice, "We didn't go to the movies; we went to see Da Huang." It dawned on me that this was the time when those two were with Da Huang... I couldn't help but feel a wave of nausea.
Liu Cuiyun grew even more impatient: "What do you mean you saw Da Huang? Are you both stupid?" Leap Forward shook his head and said, "Mom, you don't know. Da Huang is from Old Li; he said it's from his female dog and it's really good." Liu Cuiyun paused for a moment: "Old Li gave it to you?" Victory nodded: "Yeah, Mom, from now on, Da Huang will be with us." Liu Cuiyun's eyes flickered as she seemed to be lost in thought.
