In the Teaching Assistant's Exercise Lecture, over two hundred students entered the Online Meeting on time. Most of the students were not really paying attention, and my roommate, Meng Zhi, and I were chatting.
Meng Zhi asked me, "Ying'er, when are you and Senior Xu getting married?"
I smiled and replied, "Probably after this semester ends."
I have been with Xu Mingyuan for six years, from my freshman year to Graduate Year Two. He is a poor guy but very talented and good-looking. My parents really like him. By graduation, they had prepared a house, renovations, and a car. They would cover the wedding expenses as long as Xu Mingyuan and I were happy together.
Meng Zhi joked, "Don't forget to let me know when you need me to be the godmother of your child!"
I nodded with a smile.
Suddenly, Meng Zhi exclaimed, "Xu Mingyuan's mic is on!"
I clicked on his profile picture and saw that it was indeed lit up. His phone was unmuted. I tried calling him with a voice call. He didn’t answer but didn’t hang up either; his phone was just sitting aside.
"Strange, why isn't he answering?" I thought about calling again when an unexpected sound came through the earpiece. Instantly, the entire class's attention was drawn to it.
Group Chat It just exploded.
"Did I hear that right?"
"This voice... is it Xu Mingyuan?"
"Wow, wow, this is explosive!"
"Xu Mingyuan and Su Ying were supposed to get married, right?"
