President Wang put down his chopsticks and elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, smiling as he said, "Manager Jiang, your assistant is quite interesting!"
"President Wang is joking. This girl loves to cause trouble and has probably inconvenienced you," Sister Jiang Yan said with a helpless shake of her head, though there was a hint of an unnoticeable smile in her eyes.
"Young people should have a bit of personality; it's a good thing," President Wang waved his hand. "I see that your assistant is clever and loyal, a person with potential. How about this? I’ve decided to let your company handle this project, but..."
He paused and turned his gaze toward me. "I have one condition: your little assistant must be responsible for the entire coordination. What do you think?"
My heart raced suddenly, but I pretended to be indifferent, continuing to eat my meal.
Li Ming's expression instantly darkened. He put down his chopsticks and said with displeasure, "President Wang, that might not be appropriate. Ye Jiajia is just an assistant with no experience; how can she be responsible for such an important project?"
Jenny immediately chimed in, "Yes, President Wang, this project is crucial for our company; you should let someone more experienced take charge."
As she spoke, she deliberately shot me a provocative glance.
I scoffed inwardly; this woman really couldn't keep her composure and jumped in to oppose so quickly.
"Experience comes from accumulation," President Wang replied dismissively with a smile. "I believe that with Manager Jiang's guidance and Miss Ye's intelligence, this project will be completed successfully."
Sister Jiang Yan was silent for a few seconds, seemingly weighing the pros and cons. Then she looked up and smiled at President Wang, saying, "Since President Wang trusts us so much, we will gladly accept the task. Jiajia, hurry up and thank President Wang for this opportunity!"
I put down my chopsticks, stood up, raised my glass, and said to President Wang, "Thank you for your trust, President Wang. I will do my utmost to live up to your expectations!"
After saying that, I tilted my head back and downed the drink in one go.
Li Ming's face was as dark as if it could drip water, while Jenny looked incredulous, as if she couldn't believe President Wang would choose me.
I felt secretly pleased but maintained a calm demeanor, sitting back down to continue eating as if nothing had happened.
After the meal, I accompanied Sister Jiang Yan to see President Wang off.
Once President Wang's car disappeared into the night, Sister Jiang Yan turned to me with a half-smile and said, "Ye Jiajia, not bad! I didn't realize you had some skills!"
I chuckled and replied, "Boss, I'm doing this for you and for the company!"
Sister Jiang Yan rolled her eyes at me and said, "Stop joking around! Go home and prepare well. Tomorrow, come to the company with me so we can thoroughly study this project."
"Sure thing!" I happily agreed while secretly planning how to take advantage of this opportunity to "extort" a little something from the boss.
Back at the company, Li Ming and Jenny were already waiting in Jiang Yan's office.
"Manager Jiang, why did you agree to President Wang's request to let Ye Jiajia handle this project?" Li Ming asked with a hostile tone.
"Yeah, Manager Jiang, Ye Jiajia is just an assistant. How can she take on such an important responsibility?" Jenny chimed in.
Sister Jiang Yan sat down at the desk and calmly said, "Since President Wang has made this request, there must be a reason for it. I believe in Jiajia's abilities; she will definitely be able to handle this job."
"But..." Li Ming wanted to say something more but was interrupted by Sister Jiang Yan.
"Alright, this matter is settled. You don't need to say anything further. Li Ming, you will assist Jiajia in quickly familiarizing herself with the project details. Jenny, you will be responsible for following up on the project progress to ensure it is completed on time." Sister Jiang Yan's tone was firm and left no room for doubt.
Although Li Ming and Jenny were reluctant, they could only agree helplessly.
I stood aside, watching the expressions on their faces with a sense of satisfaction in my heart.
It seems that this good show has just begun.
