Wu Cheng escaped from the basement, filled with doubt and unease. Without fully releasing the tension in his heart, he decided to immediately discuss his experience with Su Jianyang and seek answers. He entered the police station hoping to meet with Su Jianyang.
Su Jianyang spent a weary night in the duty room at the police station, blinking tiredly as he tried to stay alert. Suddenly, he felt someone's arrival, and as he looked up, he was surprised to see Wu Cheng appear.
"Su Jianyang asked, 'Wu Cheng, why are you coming to see me so late? Is there something important?'
Wu Cheng looked serious and urgently said, 'I need to talk to you about something that just happened to me.'"
Su Jianyang narrowed his eyes and noticed that Wu Cheng looked extremely tense, as if he had something important to tell him. He gestured for Wu Cheng to sit down and asked, "What's wrong? Have you encountered some difficulties?"
Wu Cheng nodded and began to recount his kidnapping at Siheyuan, the strange statues he had seen, the mysterious notebook, and the situation with Grandmother. His narrative was filled with horror and unease, and Su Jianyang listened attentively, occasionally furrowing his brow.
"Wait," Su Jianyang interrupted Wu Cheng's narrative, "When you mentioned 'Grandmother,' you must be referring to witch Li!"
Wu Cheng shrugged, "Maybe. Whoever she is, not only did she attack me, but she also detained me! And that creepy basement of hers is definitely suspicious. She's definitely involved in some cult activities."
Su Jianyang revealed a slight smile, seemingly finding Wu Cheng's concern somewhat amusing. "Don't worry, Wu Cheng, witch Li is not a member of any cult. She is an elder in this area, and the worship of Black-faced Mazu is a folk belief mainly used to dispel difficulties and unease."
Wu Cheng looked at Su Jianyang with some surprise. He had thought the police officer would understand his concern, but he didn't expect Su Jianyang to hold such an attitude towards this folk belief. He felt that his experience might have been misunderstood.
"However, what about those statues, notebooks, and the basement?" Wu Cheng asked, "How do you explain these strange things?"
Su Jianyang thought for a moment and then said, "These may just be part of some kind of ritual related to folk beliefs. People often use these items on special occasions, and they may have special significance to them, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a cult. As for the basement, it could be just a place for storing or hiding items."
"Wu Cheng, I understand your concerns," Su Jianyang finally said, "but I must tell you that these seemingly mysterious matters may have different explanations. We cannot jump to conclusions just because things seem strange."
Wu Cheng frowned, finding it hard to accept Su Jianyang's view, but he also knew to respect the officer's opinion. He nodded to indicate his understanding.
"I will go talk to witch Li and see if I can get some explanations," Su Jianyang said. "Maybe I can get some more information from her as well."
"Thank you, Su Jianyang," he said, grateful for Su Jianyang's willingness to help, although he still had some doubts. He lifted his head and glanced at the pendant hanging from Su Jianyang's chest, the symbol of Black-faced Mazu shimmering there. His mood immediately became tense, but he didn't want to show it.
"This is a small talisman, perhaps it can bless you with safety," Su Jianyang said, reaching out to hand the pendant to Wu Cheng. However, when Wu Cheng saw the image of Black-faced Mazu, a wave of nausea hit him, and he quickly found an excuse to decline.
Su Jianyang noticed that Wu Cheng's expression was off, apparently having a strong aversion to Black-faced Mazu. Understanding Wu Cheng's feelings, he withdrew his hand, "If you're not willing, it's okay, don't force yourself."
"Thank you, Su Jianyang, I will face our problems on my own," Wu Cheng responded lightly.
Su Jianyang looked at Wu Cheng, knowing his inner struggle and conflict. He waved his hand, "Alright, you rest well tonight. Tomorrow, I will go find witch Li to clarify and see if there's any misunderstanding."
"Okay, thank you," Wu Cheng's expression softened slightly. He knew that Su Jianyang was genuinely helping him, at least he wasn't alone.
Su Jianyang reminded Wu Cheng to leave the chisel he had just taken out and promised to return it tomorrow. Wu Cheng looked troubled. On one hand, he felt that Su Jianyang would definitely make light of the situation, and on the other hand, he had a strange feeling about the chisel. He wanted to understand the chisel and the reason it was kept in the basement.
Wu Cheng said, "If all of this is just a misunderstanding, I will return it lightly." Wu Cheng expressed his position and then left the police station.
On the way home, Wu Cheng still felt restless. He kept thinking about the strange things in the town, his mind filled with unsolvable mysteries. As he walked, he noticed an old man on the roadside, whose eyes were shining with a strange light, staring at him.
Wu Cheng felt quite displeased and asked loudly, "What do you want to do?"
But the old man didn't speak, only quietly approached. As he approached, Wu Cheng only then noticed that the old man's eyes had long been blind, leaving only a pair of white eyeballs, flashing with an eerie light in the darkness.
The old man trembled as he reached out a letter, then chuckled and walked away. Wu Cheng felt strange as he took the envelope, opened it, and found only three words inside, "in the mine."
Wu Cheng's heart raced. He had no doubt about the meaning of these three words. This message was an important clue for him, perhaps the key to finding the truth. Holding the envelope, he decided to go to the mine and see if he could find more clues about this mysterious town.
