Li Hua skillfully linked her arm with the man's and got into the car, her affectionate demeanor unmistakable.
I couldn't understand it; that man clearly wasn't an ordinary person. With such a good boyfriend, why would she lower herself to Chen Lianqing?
Soon after, the vehicle moved and sped away. I shrugged; everyone makes mistakes. After my silent warning this time, she should be able to wake up in time and cut off her inappropriate relationship with Chen Lianqing.
However, I wondered if I had seen that man somewhere before. As I walked towards the staff quarters, I shook my head, deciding to let it go since I couldn't recall.
After lunch, I lay on my bed as usual when Song Yuegui stealthily walked in again. I sighed inwardly, realizing that the day of reckoning was drawing near.
To my surprise, Song Yuegui sat at the edge of the bed without any ulterior motives. Instead, she lowered her voice as if there were others in the house and said, "Lao Liu, guess who came to our house today?"
"Who?" Song Yuegui always made a big deal out of things. The last time she acted like this was because the Li family's cat went missing.
"Yingfang."
See? Yingfang is Chen Lianqing's wife and our school's math teacher. She lives in the staff quarters too; it's not strange for her to drop by. "What did she come for?"
"She told me she suspects her husband Old Chen is keeping a mistress." Song Yuegui said excitedly.
My heart skipped a beat, and I asked nonchalantly, "Old Chen is a school leader; does she have any evidence? Without evidence, she might just be talking nonsense."
Song Yuegui scoffed at my serious demeanor. She clicked her tongue and said knowingly, "Aren't all men like that? Whether you're sweeping the streets or being president, who doesn't cheat? Yingfang said when she was washing Old Chen's clothes, she found a large stain in his pants."
I certainly knew what that stain was. I could almost imagine the scene: Chen Lianqing sitting at his desk with his pants unzipped, pulling out his penis while a woman sat on top of him, swaying—he certainly had some nerve. "When did this happen?"
"Yesterday or the day before; I can't remember. I'll ask Yingfang later," Song Yuegui replied.
My mind buzzed; it seemed that Chen Lianqing and Li Hua's affair had been going on for quite some time—what a pair of scoundrels! What did they think this school was? Where did that leave me as principal?
"Yingfang wants you to keep an eye on him. Whether it's true or not, you have to help!" Song Yuegui insisted. "You think about it; she's a woman of this age. If Old Chen really did this, what can she do?" She leaned closer to me and strategized like a military advisor, "Besides, hasn't Old Chen always wanted to take your position? With Yingfang's brother in the Education Bureau backing him up, it's only a matter of time before he takes over. If you let him have it, he'll become principal while you... what will you do then? If you don't let him have it, your path to promotion will be blocked either way. But—if Old Chen really has a mistress, think about it: will Yingfang still help him? Then wouldn't you have a chance?"
I had to admit that Song Yuegui made some valid points. I'm not particularly skilled at reading people's minds; otherwise, I wouldn't have stayed in this position for seven or eight years without moving up.
Her reminder sparked my thoughts as I leaned closer to Song Yuegui and whispered, "Here’s what you should do: tell her to trust Old Chen's character. Moreover, there are many veteran teachers in the school who have been teaching for years; everyone cares about their reputation and wouldn't do something like this. She should think carefully about it."
"Aren't you just defending him?" Song Yuegui asked foolishly again.
I waved my hand dismissively. "Just say what I told you; it'll be fine."
Song Yuegui nodded skeptically as I lay back on the bed, my hand resting on my increasingly plump belly, feeling an immense sense of relief wash over me.
It truly reflects that saying, good things come in succession.
After school in the afternoon, I was sitting in the office, contemplating my bright future after Chen Lianqing's downfall, when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" I was startled and felt a bit guilty for no reason.
"Principal, I am Xu Xiaoran from Class 3 of Grade 5..."
As soon as she uttered the first syllable, I recognized that my Little Angel had arrived, and a wave of joy surged within me. I straightened up and said, "Come in."
Today, Little Angel was wearing a sailor outfit and looked very spirited. I walked over, placed one hand on her shoulder while closing the door with the other. "Didn’t we agree that you would call me Uncle Liu? Why aren’t you keeping your promise?"
Little Angel shyly smiled, "Uncle Liu, I finished the math competition problems. Come over to check the answers."
"Why did it take you so long to finish?" I pulled her to sit on the sofa.
She pouted her rosy lips and fidgeted with her fingers, seeming to have something difficult to say.
"It’s okay," I patted her head and took out the answer sheet from the file cabinet. "There’s only this one; other students need it too, so it’s not convenient to take it away. You can check it here, and then let me know your score."
"Okay," she took off her backpack and pulled out her test paper. Like in a park, she half-squatted and leaned on the sofa. How could I bear to see her like that? I slipped my hands under her armpits and lifted her up; she curled up shyly, looking extremely cute. I pointed to the desk and said, "Go write over there; it’s uncomfortable squatting."
She obediently sat down at the desk while I stood behind the chair, surrounding her in a semi-circle, greedily absorbing her youthful fragrance.
Her shiny black hair, her delicate fingers, her flower-like face, her slender white neck, and beneath the tightly fastened collar, undoubtedly a wonderfully exquisite little body... Without realizing it, a rush of heat surged in my lower abdomen. I pressed my legs together and inexplicably let my hand that was resting on the back of the chair slowly slide down to Little Angel's collarbone...
"Lao Liu."
The door suddenly swung open, and my mind buzzed as I quickly withdrew my hand, staring at Chen Lianqing who had barged in, my ears burning with embarrassment.
"Oh, there’s a student here," he glanced at Little Angel before shifting his gaze to me. Perhaps my panic revealed something; his thick eyebrows raised slightly as he quickly glanced at my lower body. Unable to dodge in time, I awkwardly shifted my body; ultimately it was too obvious. He raised an eyebrow with a meaningful smirk and said, "Alright, you carry on," leaving behind a deep look as he exited and closed the door behind him.
He must have noticed something!
My mind was in chaos; my legs began to tremble.
"Uncle Liu, I've checked the answers," Little Angel said innocently while looking up at me.
"Oh, good. You can go back now; Uncle Liu still has work to handle." I forced a hollow smile.
