He began to increasingly dislike New York, shifting his focus to Las Vegas. Within a few months, he relocated the headquarters of Solomon and Monica entirely to Las Vegas and purchased a secluded and mysterious European-style castle as his residence.
Since that night, Rafas dedicated all his energy to expanding Solomon and Monica. He promoted Faisal to the leader of the organization, and everyone in the organization had to obey his commands and arrangements, except for Rafas himself.
In public, he was known as the Devil CEO wearing a Silver Mask, but behind the scenes, he was still the master of Solomon. His methods had become even more ruthless, fierce, and merciless than before.
After three years of relentless effort, Solomon had swallowed up most of the drug and arms business in North America. Whenever Rafas's name was mentioned on the streets, no one dared to show him any disrespect.
Meanwhile, Monica successfully monopolized the economic lifeline of New York in recent years, becoming one of the top 100 strongest companies in the world. It was astonishing that a company like Monica, which had only been listed for a few years, ranked among the top 100 with such strength and financial backing.
Success came rushing at him in an instant. Another three years passed, and tonight was the memorial day for his brothers. Rafas felt restless; every year on this day, his heart would be filled with turmoil and chaos.
He entered a well-known private club in Las Vegas and found a relatively secluded spot to sit down. Suddenly, the men in the audience began to stir, looking towards the source of the commotion on stage. A woman, so beautiful she could make one weep, twisted her waist in distress. Her clear eyes caught his attention, causing his brows to furrow sharply as memories of that wretched woman flooded back into his mind.
With a price tag of ten million dollars, he bought that woman from the stage...
"So you vented your hatred for her on me, is that right?" Yan Wushuang listened to this story with tears in her eyes; it turned out he had come through such hardships.
"I'm sorry; all I can say to you now is these three words because when I bought you back then, it was indeed because of her. I hate her; I hate myself even more for being betrayed by someone I trusted most, leading to the deaths of those seven good brothers!" Rafas held her tighter, hoping that after sharing that memory, she could forgive his mistakes.
Yan Wushuang closed her eyes. She could feel the pain he endured when he discovered that the person who betrayed him was none other than his beloved partner. Watching his best brothers die tragically from poison due to his woman and being left hanging as corpses in mid-air was a humiliation not everyone could bear.
She understood now; she finally realized why after three years he still hated her so much and why he refused to remove the scar on his face—it turned out she had misunderstood him.
Turning into his embrace, her tears soaked his shirt. Yan Wushuang wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered an apology in his ear: "I'm sorry, Lefas. It's my stubbornness that made you remember those unhappy memories again; I'm truly sorry!"
"Fool, do you really need to say this to me? But I want you to tell me if you're willing to forgive me," Rafas felt her inner warmth. If it weren't for that accident three years ago, perhaps he would never have met Yan Wushuang. Could this be Heaven's compensation for him?
Yan Wushuang buried her face in his embrace, nodding at him with a mix of tears and laughter. She didn't blame him anymore, and she never would again...
“Shuang'er, I love you…”
Rafas lifted her small face from his arms, his serious black eyes gazing at her tear-streaked cheeks as he spoke gently.
“Lefas…”
Yan Wushuang softly called his name, tilting her face up to meet his earnest and sincere black eyes.
He lowered his head and kissed her soft lips, his arms sliding down to hold her tightly in his embrace, cherishing and pampering her…
“Ah… Lefas, you're holding me too tightly; it hurts!” She frowned slightly and pushed against him.
Rafas nervously loosened his grip, almost forgetting that she had bruises on her body. It was all his fault for being too careless and inadvertently hurting her. He let her sit on the bed and insisted on checking her wounds. He had wanted to see them during the days in the hospital, but she had been so stubborn, making him worry a lot.
“Be good, let me see where you're hurt; just a quick look, I swear!” Rafas helped unbutton her shirt, but Wushuang pushed him away, unwilling to let him see.
“Don't pull! They've already scabbed over; there's nothing to see.” As a woman, having to undress in broad daylight for him to check was too much.
“But baby, if you don't let me check, I won't feel at ease. Can I just take a quick look?” Rafas insisted. In the midst of speaking, he gently pulled down her shirt. There were obvious scars on her arms and back; no wonder she said it hurt when he held her too tightly.
Yan Wushuang's cheeks flushed red. He always forced her so domineeringly. The skin exposed to the air felt instantly cool. Rafas fetched a bottle of ointment from the room and gently applied it to her wounds while also blowing on them to soothe her.
Watching him carefully apply the medicine made Wushuang feel warm inside. Just a while ago, she had tried to avoid him by sneaking out of the castle late at night with Snowball. Wait a minute—she had taken Snowball with her; did that mean Snowball was still at Xinya's house after she was hospitalized?
She hurriedly stood up and took a few steps to the bedside to pick up the phone. She wanted to check if her Snowball was still at Xinya's place.
"Baby, what's wrong with you?" Rafas was still applying medicine to her but was pushed aside as she moved to the bedside.
Yan Wushuang did not respond to him and dialed a number, waiting for the other party to answer: "Hello, is this Wushuang?"
On the other end, Shouya's voice came through. He knew that Rafas wouldn't call him from a landline, so since it wasn't Lefas, it had to be Wushuang.
"Brother Shouya, it's me. I'm really sorry about earlier. Lefas is just too petty; please don't be mad!" She started by apologizing, hoping he wouldn't hold it against Lefas.
"Hahaha... Don't tell me you called just to apologize for that?" Shouya laughed humorously, showing no signs of anger or unhappiness over what had just happened.
"No, actually I wanted to ask you if you saw my Snowball at Xinya's when you took her home?" Wushuang said while Rafas sat beside her, leaning closely against her.
"Don't worry, it's safe and sound at Xinya's house. Tomorrow when I have time, I'll go pick up Snowball for you. Just relax and rest at home!" He reassured her, also easing the worries of the man beside her.
Knowing her little treasure was safe, she smiled and hung up the phone. The man who had been quietly sitting next to her turned her shoulder to face him and said, "Baby, it's already autumn. Don't you realize you're exposing your upper body?"
After applying ointment to all her wounds, he personally found her some pajamas to change into for comfort. Yan Wushuang watched his attentive care; although she didn't say anything, she felt very warm inside—truly warm.
The two leaned back against the headboard together. Yan Wushuang rested her head on his shoulder, enjoying the feeling of being enveloped by him. She reached out and placed her hand over his heart, feeling his heartbeat...
Rafas held her hand that rested on his heart in his palm, cherishing and loving her...
"Baby, I have a gift for you that I know you'll love!" Rafas suddenly had a bright idea about something very important to her.
Yan Wushuang wondered what he was up to. No matter how she felt about the gifts he gave her, they were just some jewelry or something similar.
Seeing her somewhat skeptical expression, he gently brushed her nose and got out of bed to fetch something for her. When he returned, he held out a box in front of her… "Open it and take a look!"
Yan Wushuang took the box, but she had no idea what was inside. She glanced at him and slowly opened the box…
"This... this... isn't this my jade pendant? I thought you had destroyed it; I didn't expect you to keep it for me until now." She picked up the piece that belonged to her, the Phoenix Pendant. Although it was damaged, Rafas had found the best craftsman to reconstruct it into its current form using the broken jade.
Even though it was no longer whole, in Yan Wushuang's eyes, it looked exactly the same as before. However, after the excitement faded, Yan Wushuang carefully considered that she and the general would no longer have a chance to be together. Shouldn't this jade pendant be returned to him?
“Lefas, could you help me send this jade pendant to Japan? This was the token of love given to me by the general back then. Now that I am yours, this pendant no longer belongs to me. Please return it to the general!” Yan Wushuang lowered her head and said with some guilt. She remembered that she had once deceived him by saying that this pendant was a relic left to her by her Empress.
"Alright... This should have been returned to him anyway. But how many things are you still hiding from me about your relationship with him? You must tell me everything!" Rafas lifted her chin, his dark eyes looking into hers. If only he could understand people's hearts.
He wished he could always know what Wushuang was thinking and what she needed…
Yan Wushuang took one last look and placed the pendant back in the box. This item should belong to Miss Misa. She knew that Miss Misa had always had feelings for the general. If they could be together, that would be the best outcome.
"Baby, I miss you..." Rafas set the box down and lay back down beside her.
Rafas turned on his side, propping his head up with his right hand, smiling affectionately at Yan Wushuang. Their gazes met; it was a sweetness beyond description.
"You don't miss me at all! I've been gone for several days, and you didn't even come looking for me! You're just… just…" With his mention of it, Yan Wushuang's grievances suddenly erupted.
