Xinya said somewhat unhappily to Shouya, "Brother Shouya, why didn't you explain clearly to Grandma just now? You made her misunderstand us. There's really nothing between us."
"What do you mean there's nothing? It seemed like our lips touched just now." Seeing that An Xinya was unwilling to admit it, Shouya directly stated the fact.
This made An Xinya's face turn pale and then red, and she shyly replied, "Brother Shouya, how can you say that?"
"It's already late. I have to go back now. You should rest!" Shouya quickly changed the subject, bid her farewell, and then left her house.
When he reached downstairs, Shouya couldn't help but turn around and look up at An Xinya's house, his hand unconsciously touching his lips, where her fragrance still lingered.
As his fingers brushed against his lips, a shy smile crept onto the corners of his mouth.
Shouya turned around, got into the driver's seat, and drove away.
That night, Shouya lay in bed tossing and turning, the scene from earlier replaying in his mind. It was another sleepless night. He wondered how An Xinya was doing now; would she be unable to sleep like him?
Sitting on her bed, An Xinya furrowed her brows, feeling restless and anxious. She couldn't sleep tonight and didn't know why. Brother Shouya's words to Grandma echoed clearly in her ears.
That kiss had come too suddenly! And it was her first kiss. Thinking about it made her heart race again, her cheeks burning like boiling coffee.
Grandma really was something else; how could she take sides with others and speak for them? It infuriated her!
When the first rays of morning sunlight streamed onto the balcony, An Xinya opened her eyes and felt the bright scenery outside, realizing that happiness could be so simple.
Waking up naturally always felt good, but losing sleep over someone made it feel particularly special. The thought of that person was tireless and not bothersome; instead, it felt blissful. Slowly opening her eyes and transitioning between dreams and reality, she took a deep breath, feeling an unparalleled calmness within.
Perhaps after experiencing a night of nightmares, she suddenly appreciated this rare comfort and tranquility. Maybe having tasted a sweet encounter left her reluctant to part with that unfamiliar figure in her dreams; her heartbeat synchronized with the rhythm of those thoughts.
A knock on the door sounded "knock knock," followed by Grandma's voice calling from outside: "Xinya, it's time to get up!" "Okay, I know, Grandma." An Xinya lifted the covers and got out of bed, groggily making her way to the dressing table. In the mirror, she saw her rosy complexion. She accurately picked up the wooden comb placed on the table and gently brushed her long black hair.
She stumbled out of her room and could hear Grandma bustling around in the kitchen, along with the clattering sounds of pots and pans.
Usually, she could smell the fragrant aroma of bread wafting through the air, along with the scent of porridge and crispy fried dough sticks. Following those delightful smells, she slowly walked to the dining table and sat down. Soon enough, she heard Grandma's footsteps coming out of the kitchen, causing a gentle smile to form on her lips. "Good morning, Grandma!"
"Good morning, Xinya! Hurry up and eat! Otherwise, you'll be late for class," Grandma An said as she sat down, placing a bowl of porridge in front of her. She took Xinya's hand and placed a spoon in it.
Every morning, having breakfast with Grandma and listening to her chatter felt incredibly happy and fulfilling.
After finishing breakfast, as she stepped out of the house, Grandma reminded her to be careful on the way. With a slight smile, she replied, "I know, Grandma. Don't worry! I will be careful."
These words were deeply etched in her mind. That day, when she woke up, Grandma didn't make breakfast and asked her to help buy some instead. She nodded in agreement, happy to do these things for her grandmother.
Stepping out of the house and carefully walking down the stairs, she found herself in a bustling little market below. Having lived here for several years, everything felt so familiar to her.
As she passed by a familiar vendor, they greeted her warmly. She recognized the voice immediately; it was Mrs. Beren.
Reaching the bakery, she had already prepared the cash and looked straight ahead while smiling at the clerk, asking for two loaves of bread and a cup of hot milk.
As usual, the clerk cheerfully greeted her, commenting on how early she was.
An Xin Ya recognized that it was Maria working the morning shift today. After chatting with Maria for a bit, she slowly made her way back along the same route. The neighbors here had taken good care of her over the years, reminding her to be cautious and even kindly warning her about what lay ahead so she could easily avoid any obstacles.
At that moment, An Xin Ya was unexpectedly bumped into by someone. She heard a startled "Ah!" from the other person. She stumbled slightly but managed to keep her balance thanks to her cane.
"I'm sorry! I'm really sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you..."
Although An Xin Ya couldn't see, her hearing was quite sharp, allowing her to recognize who it was. The voice sounded increasingly familiar as she quickly recalled where she had heard it before. Her eyes lit up with surprise and excitement as she exclaimed, "Wushuang..."
Yan Wushuang hurriedly apologized. Upon hearing her name called out, she was taken aback and looked up at the beautiful and innocent face before her. She remembered meeting An Xin Ya last time at an internationally renowned clothing store; she was the woman next to Brother Shouya.
Filled with joy, Yan Wushuang quickly grabbed An Xin Ya's hand. "Xinya! I didn't expect to run into you here."
One must say that this is fate! If you believe in it, it exists; if you don't, it doesn't—there is a certain destiny in the universe.
An Xin Ya tightly held onto Yan Wushuang's hand, feeling the familiar warmth from her grip. With her beautiful yet vacant eyes looking straight ahead, she mentioned that she had waited for Wushuang at Faisal and Ieyako's engagement party last night for a long time but hadn't seen her there and was worried something might have happened to her.
Meeting her here made An Xin Ya incredibly happy, and a flower-like smile blossomed on her face.
Yan Wushuang recalled what had happened last night, and her heart sank into an abyss. She truly did not want to mention last night's events, nor did she wish to think of that man filled with lies.
But at that moment, An Xin Ya faintly heard Wushuang's low sobs. Her heart tightened, and she grasped Wushuang's hand tightly, nervously asking what was wrong and if she was crying. As if remembering something, she asked what had happened and how Wushuang ended up here.
Indeed, this was a small town, quite far from the city center. An Xin Ya remembered that Wushuang lived in a castle with her husband, which was at least several dozen kilometers away from here.
Wushuang only cried and did not answer her questions, suddenly collapsing into her arms and weeping.
An Xin Ya knew that Wushuang had been wronged. If she guessed correctly, Wushuang must have had a fight with her husband and run away from home. She recalled Brother Shouya telling her last night that Wushuang's husband was very strict with her.
"Woohoo, I had a fight with him... I didn't expect him to treat me like that..." Wushuang said sadly, her voice trembling and hoarse.
Just as she had suspected.
Hearing Wushuang's cries made An Xin Ya's heart ache. She kept comforting her until Wushuang gradually stopped crying. Knowing how heartbroken she was, An Xin Ya figured she probably didn't want to go home. So she told Wushuang that if she didn't want to go home, she could stay at her place for a few days.
Yan Wushuang nodded happily with red eyes.
An Xin Ya then mentioned that her home was quite simple and hoped Wushuang wouldn't mind.
How could Wushuang mind? She had run away from home just to escape that man. If it weren't for bumping into An Xin Ya, she truly wouldn't know where to go. A girl as inexperienced as her could easily be deceived by others at any time.
Although she had only met Wushuang once, the warmth and kindness she showed made it clear that she truly regarded her as a close friend and never treated her like a stranger.
Yan Wushuang wiped away the tears on her face and leaned on An Xin Ya as they slowly walked back to her house under An Xin Ya's guidance.
Looking up at the building and then glancing at An Xin Ya, she realized this was where An Xin Ya lived. However, compared to the luxurious and grand castle where she resided, she longed for An Xin Ya's current life of freedom without constraints.
Though she could not see with her eyes, she lived life optimistically and positively!
She originally thought she could find her own happiness and be with the person she loved, but little did she know that there was a tremendous lie behind it all, leaving her heartbroken and in despair.
An Xin Ya took Yan Wushuang upstairs, fumbling to pull out the key and unlock the door. She walked in and smiled at her, saying, "This is my home! Come, sit here!"
Holding Yan Wushuang's hand, she guided her to the sofa and helped her sit down.
Yan Wushuang looked around. Compared to living in a castle, this place was indeed a bit simple and not very spacious, but it was tidy and well-organized.
"Xinya, who are you talking to?" At that moment, Grandma An came out of the room and saw Xinya with a charming and beautiful girl.
Grandma An looked at Xinya with confusion. How did Xinya come to know such a beautiful girl? Why had she never seen Xinya bring her home before?
An Xin Ya sensed something and pulled Yan Wushuang's hand, smiling as she introduced her to Grandma An. "Grandma, this is Miss Wushuang I mentioned to you last time."
Last time, Faisal and Ieyako were going to hold an engagement party, and Brother Shouya insisted on taking her to buy a dress to prepare. It was that day at the clothing store when they met each other. After some introductions, the three of them had a great time chatting. When she got home afterward, she couldn't stop talking about Wushuang and Yezi to her grandmother.
Yan Wushuang wiped her face and immediately felt a bit embarrassed as she stood up to apologize to the elderly lady in front of her. "I'm sorry, Grandma. Did I wake you up too early? I'm really sorry!"
Grandma An looked over Yan Wushuang and indeed found her to be a very beautiful young lady who was also well-mannered. She felt pleased that her granddaughter had such a friend.
Grandma An treated Yan Wushuang very warmly, and An Xin Ya could tell that Grandma really liked Wushuang. It was clear that Wushuang was an endearing girl.
Being able to happily have breakfast with Grandma An and An Xin Ya brought warmth that Yan Wushuang had never experienced before.
