Beside her, Dr. Jiegana asked, "Miss Shinya, can you see?"
On the other side, another anxious voice inquired, "Miss Shinya, can you see?"
Everyone was nervously asking her if she could see.
"Can you see what this is?" Jagana gently asked, extending a finger.
"One," An Xin Ya replied, looking at the finger in front of her.
Hearing her response, Shouya, Jagana, and the other doctors rejoiced, embracing each other; this surgery had finally succeeded.
"Xinya, you can finally see," Shouya said excitedly, tears in his eyes as he hugged her tightly.
"Brother Shouya, I really can see! I'm so happy! Truly so happy!" An Xin Ya cried with joy, tightly hugging Shouya as tears streamed down her face.
After leaving Brother Shouya's embrace, she turned to look closely at each doctor present. Without them, she would have never regained her sight or seen anything again, not even the first ray of light...
Suddenly, she knelt down with a thud and gratefully said, "Thank you. Thank you so much."
Everyone looked at her and stepped forward to help her up. They understood she wanted to express her gratitude but felt that such a deep bow was unnecessary; it was too much for them to bear.
"Xinya, what are you doing?" Shouya frowned and reached out to help her up. "Don't cry; what if your eyes get worse!"
Yes, don't cry. It was hard-won to be able to see. She hurriedly wiped away her tears and looked at Shouya with watery eyes before breaking into a smile. She embraced him deeply and sincerely said, "Thank you, Brother Shouya."
Jagana looked at the two of them happily and waved to all the doctors, signaling them to leave the ward. The doctors exited the room, and Jagana followed, closing the door behind them, leaving the two alone in the room, knowing they had much to talk about.
“Xinya…” Shouya cupped her face in his hands, looking closely into her eyes. They were bright now, no longer empty, filled with emotion. He was overwhelmed with excitement and lowered his head to kiss her passionately.
An Xin Ya was startled by his sudden kiss, her eyes widening as she stared at the white ceiling. His kiss made her feel dizzy, almost breathless, but she loved this feeling; her heart raced, making her feel lightheaded.
Shouya pulled away from her lips, gazing at her lovingly, and called out her name again with excitement: “Xinya, my Xinya, you can finally see me!”
“Mm!” An Xin Ya looked at the man before her with tears in her eyes and nodded vigorously.
Yes, she truly saw him—the handsome man before her was just as Yuga had described and just as she had envisioned in her mind. But now he was real and standing right in front of her. She wanted to look at him carefully and engrave this image deeply in her heart.
They could no longer contain their feelings and embraced tightly. Sunlight streamed in, illuminating them both.
“I see you! Brother Shouya…” An Xin Ya said while hugging him tightly, tears streaming down her face.
Hearing Xinya's words made Shouya’s eyes well up with tears; he felt an urge to cry. He tilted his head back to prevent the tears from falling and gently pushed her away, placing his hands on her shoulders. Looking at her tear-streaked face, he softly said, “Xinya, don’t cry. Your eyes have just recovered; you need to let them rest…”
“Mm mm!” Xinya nodded vigorously again. She was too excited and overwhelmed, unable to hold back her tears. She selfishly didn’t want to close her eyes; she wanted to take in everything around her.
“Hurry, Brother Shouya, call Grandma! I want to tell her that I can see again,” An Xin Ya thought of her grandmother, believing that she worried about her every day, hoped for her recovery at home, and prayed for her well-being.
At that moment, An Xin Ya wanted nothing more than for Grandma to know that she could see again. Shouya understood and empathized with her eagerness. He quickly took out his phone and dialed the number. After a few beeps, it was finally answered; it was Grandma An’s voice on the other end.
"Grandma, it's me, Xinya!" An Xin Ya said happily, tears streaming down her face as she held the phone.
"Xinya, what's wrong? Why are you crying? Are you doing okay in New York? Grandma really wants to come see you..." came the voice of Grandma An from the other end of the line.
Hearing her grandmother's voice made An Xin Ya feel both excited and bittersweet. She laughed through her tears and said, "Grandma, do you know? Brother Shouya has cured my eyes. I can finally see things, see everything real... Grandma, in a few days I can return to Las Vegas, and then I will be able to see you."
"Really? Is that true?" Grandma An couldn't believe what she was hearing. She thought she must have misheard, but Xinya was clearly telling her the truth.
"Yes, I'm really better, Grandma..."
"That's wonderful, Xinya! I'm so happy!" Grandma An cried with joy, unsure how to express her feelings at that moment.
Shouya stood beside her, gently supporting Xinya's trembling shoulders. With tears in his eyes, he looked at Xinya as she cried happily. Then he took the phone from her hand and said to Grandma An on the line, "Grandma, Xinya can really see now. She still needs to stay in the hospital for observation for a day or two. If everything goes well, she can be discharged and return to Las Vegas."
"Shouya, thank you so much! I really don't know how to repay you. You are a lifesaver for both me and Xinya..." Grandma An said excitedly.
"Grandma, this is what I should do. I'm willing to do anything for Xinya and give everything for her," Shouya said tenderly as he looked at An Xin Ya beside him.
Upon hearing Brother Shouya's words, Xinya was momentarily stunned. She raised her eyes in astonishment to look at him, and tears flowed freely once again...
After ending the call with Grandma An, Xinya moved emotionally to embrace Shouya tightly and said, "Brother Shouya, thank you so much! I really appreciate it; I don't know how I can repay you."
"What are you saying? You are my woman. I will take care of you and protect you from any harm..." Shouya said deeply.
An Xin Ya needed to rest. Shouya helped her sit down on the hospital bed, his gaze gentle as water as he looked at her. He lightly kissed her smooth forehead and said, "Xinya, you have just regained your sight; you need to rest well."
"I'm scared..." An Xin Ya said, lightly furrowing her brows as she grasped his hand, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes.
"What are you afraid of? I'm right here with you. Don't be afraid; I will protect you," Shouya reassured her.
"I'm afraid that when I wake up, everything will still be dark..." An Xin Ya sincerely expressed her unease to Shouya.
"How could that be! Stop overthinking and just rest well!"
Shouya helped her lie down, covered her with a blanket, and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. He kissed her smooth forehead once more and told her to rest well. Just as he was about to leave the room, An Xin Ya suddenly grabbed his hand and said, "Brother Shouya, can you stay with me?"
She knew very well that Brother Shouya was busy, with endless experiments and reports to write, but she selfishly wanted him to stay with her because she felt a bit scared. She feared that when she opened her eyes, it would still be dark. Even if it wasn't dark, she was afraid of not seeing him when she opened her eyes and then losing him forever.
"Okay, I'll stay by your side. Sleep now!" Shouya said as he moved a chair next to her bed, took her hand in his, and spoke softly.
An Xin Ya finally felt at ease and closed her eyes; perhaps she was too tired because she quickly fell asleep.
Sitting beside her, Shouya listened to her steady and sweet breathing while admiring her fair and radiant skin, her beautiful and delicate face, and the long, thick eyelashes that curled slightly like two fans.
He held her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing the back of her hand deeply.
The surgery had finally succeeded; An Xin Ya had regained her sight. At this moment, his heart was more excited than anyone else's. He wished he could stay by her side day and night, but he couldn't because he still had several experiments left to complete.
He gently released her hand, placing it under the blanket and tucking her in before stepping out of the hospital room. He instructed a nurse to come in and take care of her.
The next day, An Xin Ya did not get up until close to noon. When she opened her eyes, she saw white walls, but the room was decorated warmly and elegantly, unlike other hospitals that felt cold and frightening.
The light blue cotton curtains could not block out the sunlight from New York, and the room had already become bright. Although it was late autumn, the sun still shone brightly at times.
She sat up in bed and looked around. The furniture was complete, and on the table were vibrant roses that seemed to be dripping with color, filling the air with a faint floral scent.
She picked a petal and smelled it; it was fragrant and refreshing. She remembered that before she couldn't see, when she arrived in New York, she could smell Lily's fragrance. She wondered when it had changed to roses.
She rubbed her long hair at the back of her head and got out of bed. Looking down at her shoes, she noticed they were white, soft, and comfortable.
At that moment, the door opened, and a nurse dressed in white entered. Seeing that she was awake, she smiled and said, "Miss Shinya, you're awake!"
"Yes, by the way, what time is it?" There was no alarm clock in the room, so she had no idea what time it was.
"It’s 2:20 PM," the nurse replied.
That meant she had slept for a whole day. It had been a long time since she had slept so soundly without dreams until waking naturally.
"Shouya... Dr. Shoya? Where is he?" An Xin Ya asked again. Not seeing him as soon as she woke up made her feel a bit anxious. She remembered he had promised that he would be there for her first sight upon waking, but today he was not there, leaving her feeling somewhat disappointed.
